Hi! Can anyone tell me who the actor is who played Herman's son in this episode? He looks very familiar but I can't seem to place him. Could he be a real, known basketball player on a college team? Although he was good, he didn't seem like a "seasoned' actor - more like an athlete playing a part, in my opinion. Thanks for any info!!!

Hi Big Fan! Here's the two names I see so far: James Martin Kelly (Billy Burkenpass Sr. 2003) James Martin Kelly (Billy Berkenpass Sr.) Nothing else listed on tvtome yet. I didn't really get to watch the show yet as I taped it but I'm wondering who Scotty's gal is. ~Naj

Thanks for the info, CC Fan. I also thank you for the tvtome website name. It's cool!
I'm sure it's not James Martin Kelly because another website says he was born in 1954 and I believe Billy Sr. was the one who killed Herman.
I am so determined to find out the young man's name now because it's bugging me, know what I mean???!!!
I am too tired tonight though so I'm gonna look again tomorrow. Maybe someone else will know by then!
Thanks again! ;D

FYI...just got this off of TVRules.net - all of the info I have so far but not the answer to my question yet. Cold Case: The Lost Soul of Herman Lester 3/14 Preview Stillman asks Rush and Valens to re-open the 1987 case of a high school basketball star on Cold Case, Sunday March 14 on CBS. "The Lost Soul of Herman Lester" Stillman asks Rush and Valens to re-open the 1987 case of Philadelphia high school basketball star Herman Lester, found stabbed to death hours after leading his team to the State Championship, on COLD CASE, Sunday, March 14 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Stillman's request is motivated by a death threat recently received by Herman's son, Earl, a current basketball phenom vying for the same school as his father. Among the suspects who soon re-emerge are a jealous teammate of Herman's who was kicked off the team (Ron Berkenpass), a local bookmaker and Herman and Earl's coach, who was hoping to ride both players’ coattails to a job in the collegiate ranks. Tim Matheson directed the episode from a script by Sean Whitesell.

just watched the episode, and honestly, it was my least favorite out of the entire season. It wasn't really interesting. Oh well, I can't believe there's less than 5 episodes left!

I am going to have to say I agree, I didn't really care for this one at all and I still don't understand why the father of the other boy killed Herman, I must have missed something somewhere.
I also thought that Billy(?) was going to turn out to be Earl's real father instead of Herman just because of the fact that Earl wasn't as tall as Herman and the fact that they pointed that out.
This thing with Scotty's girlfriend is really getting intriguing, I wonder when they will tell us what is wrong with her.

she obviously has schizophrenia. Scotty knows a lot about schizophrenia and I think he once said that he knew somebody who has it. That's why he was scared when she said there's a giant behind you. He thought she was imagining things again. But I don't understand why he's so embarassed about his gf having it...

I just watched this episode last night. I thought that overall it was a good episode, but not one of my favorites. I liked the fact that we got a little bit more info on Scotty's GF (?). We also got to see more of Lilly's personality. The scene when she found Herman's son on the basketball court showed a slightly different side. The interrogation scene with Ron regarding his alibi with his father was very well done and acted by KM. Lilly was quite spunky in this episode, especially toward that sexist coach. He got on my nerves with all his snide remarks ("I wouldn't expect YOU to understand"), but Lilly had a great come-back. I agree that the motive for the murder was weak. It would have made more sense if he had killed Herman b/c he felt that he ruined his son's career. JMO.

But I don't understand why he's so embarassed about his gf having it... I didn't think he really seemed embarrassed; I thought he was more concerned for her, like he didn't want anyone to suprise them and have her get upset.

So is Scotty's girlfriend's name Alissa? Why do you all think she is schizophrenic?
I too think this was a flat episode. Maybe it was the basketball theme!
I think the father killed Herman because he was just jealous of him and that he took away from his son's recognition???

I just realized the possibilty they showed a basketball themed episode last week. March Madness! And that must be why the CBS site has that poll about liking basketball.....

Hi, CC Fan. I second your tagging "Herman Lester" the worst episode of the past season. The sports action (as per usual in these instances) isn't credible, plot developments make little sense, and guest stars have no juice. (That Lilly alone senses the kid will be at his father's murder site won't wash.) Of greater importance is the dull direction by actor Tim Matheson, who's signed on as producer for season two and will direct several more. Be afraid, very afraid.

blankregus - I noticed as well that Tim Matheson directed this one and thought the same thing. CC usually has creative camera angles and nice sweeping shots. I often marvel at the interesting way they shoot scenes. However, this ep was done just like every other show on TV. There was nothing original or particularly interesting about it. The only scene I noticed was when Lilly interrogated the senior Berkinpass (sp) when he confessed. There was a nice pan between Berkinpass (current), to Lilly, and back to Berkinpass (1987). Other than that, I got nothing. The one thing that I always enjoy about CC is that it doesn't fall into the usual traps that television shows fall into. Upon a second viewing of this ep, I found myself noticing that this ep did. The sports stereotypes were all over this episode. The gambling on the game, the player asked to throw the game, etc. I understand that this is a part of sports, but I'm not a fan of using these as plot angles, especially when they've been done over and over on television. It just makes the episode weak IMO. Also, I have to go back to the fact that the motive was weak and seemingly unbelievable really IMO. Overall, not a terrible ep, but not a great one either. There were redeeming scenes, for instance, when Lilly finds Ray on the court (although I agree with blankregus that it seems unplausible that she would be the only one to think of this). I thought their exchange was nice. Oh well, all shows have their not-as-good moments.

Hey, everyone. Hope Christmas went well for those who celebrated it. Anyway, I caught the rerun of Lost Soul of Herman Lester. I got a really good laugh. There is a commercial on right now where a father is watching his two sons shoveling snow. His wife asks him why. He tells her he'd let them have cell phones or something. I'm 100% sure the father played Herman's coach circa 2004. The commercial aired during the episode so I was able to catch it. I'll have to see the commercial again to confirm it. I was losing it. I taped the episode so I can check it out when I have some free time which is one more week. Later you all.
