Thank you for these precise details Boxman . I know the general principles of the American law (this is why I say that the two systems are so different), which I did not know it is the law on the minors. This is why I wanted to know the sanction which a 12 year old boy could have in Philadelphia. I studied the French right during 4 years, our right is not perfect but it corresponds to our culture, with our old principles. The American right is only far from our culture and our legal principles, but it corresponds to a reality on your premise. I also think that American must find our system rather different even laxist.

This was another emotional one. There were some things that didn't convince me, but yet I liked the ep. I think what interested me the most in this ep was the tracks of the gun's history and people surrounded it. The factory manager and Uncle Sam seemed they have no sense of responsibility. And that kids who was laughing while shooting birds, and only realized the seriousness of the situation when they saw the horse bled to nearly death. While watching this episode, I feared more the mind of those who handle it than the gun itself. I know it's legal there but geez, is gun show a commonplace event? Hope it'll never, ever be held in here. When Lilly said to Kayla's mom that ''I wish I didn't (know the truth). I really do.'', it seemed she spoke for Kayla. If I remember correctly, they always see victims smiling or relieving or thanking when the truth is come to light. But Kayla looked she is just stunned, ununderstandable. So sad.
About Scotty/Chris part, have already been said enough. I don't like their relationship either, and I blame Scotty for that. She is just that sort of girl. As oppose to most of you, I really like Christina.
Oh, one more thing. I loved the ''Girls gone wild?'' line. haha. ;D

I finally had a chance to watch this, and I'm sad to say that the only thing I found a bit unrealistic about the episode is a twelve-year old driving a car. Unfortunately, gun violence has steeply escalated this year in Philly, and it really hasn't been unusual to find kids behind some of the crimes. Just a few months ago, there was a case in South Philly where a 4-year old was caught in the crossfire of a 13-year old. Talk about life imitating art. Thank God the young girl survived; but the shooting could easily have been fatal as in this episode.

I don't remember having ever seen this episode before, and my goodness, was it depressing. Like a lot of you, I thought Darnell being 12 and driving that well was a tad unbelievable; where in the world would he have learned? And in Philly traffic, no less. The fact that he sat on a phone book to see over the dashboard was a little bit cute in a horrifyingly tragic way. The way he reacted when he realized what he'd done made me cry, and I don't usually cry over TV shows.
The Scotty-Christina thing still nauseates me, even though it's long over, and even though I totally understand the *why* of it, when I didn't back when it was happening...but that shot of him in the wife-beater? Nice.
And I loved Lil's Girls Gone Wild remark; best line of the episode.

This is one of my very favourite episodes concerning the second season and I've watched it at least ten times! ;D Although it's very tragic and it's got its little mistakes, the whole story is pretty touching and the music choice is also very good!

I agree with everyone about Darnell. I just can't see a 12 year old shoot and drive at the same time.
But my cousin was 13 when he was driving, I know that is a year older but that was a long time ago though.
I have seen this episode before but TNT preempted this episode with Law & Order marathon so...
I liked that Vera showed concern for Scotty.

Good episode. Liked the way they shook up the formula a little. I wouldn't have minded if they had done another episode in this format- tracing a weapon or a place back through the ages. It was really interesting.
Loved all the little stories about the gun (although the horse being shot was awful). Loved Truly and Eric in the ending montage. Their stories really stuck with me, despite neither of them knowing the victim or doer.
The revelation of the doer struck me as unbelievable. I would have much prefered that someone else- anyone else be the doer.
First of all, a 12 year old who can drive and shoot a semi automatic at the same time? Especially since his dad says he never taught the kid to drive. So where did he learn? Plus he'd never shot a gun before, and he's got that good an aim?
Secondly, he shot up a whole basketball court of people. Dozens of people could have died. I didn't actually feel any sympathy for him. He planned a mass shooting in a public place. I know he only wanted to kill one person, but it's still really cold-hearted. I wish they'd either had him say that he was only aiming to scare Rodney or had everyone be less sympathetic. They've been harsh on twelve year old killers before. Even the 12 year old killers in Sleepover and One Small Step at least had the excuse that it was heat of the moment, and they were treated far less sympathetically.
I felt so sorry for his parents. I liked that they were trying to shield him in the end, and the dad was willing to go to jail for him.
The Scotty-Christina thing was boring but I don't blame Scotty. His long time girlfriend just killed herself. People deal in grief in strange ways. I actually hate the whole arc, simply because Lilly acts like such a horrible person over it. Okay, I can see her being a bit annoyed that Scotty didn't listen to her about Christina being bad news, and also maybe feeling that Scotty wasn't being respectful to Elissa's memory. But she completely overreacted, and no one called her out on it. Instead, Scotty was made to look like the bad guy. I usually love Lilly more than Scotty, but I'm totally on his side here. And why did Lilly get so mad at Christina? Surely she would have wanted Chris to date a guy like Scotty rather than a complete jerk?
In hindsight, Kat would have been perfect in this episode.
