I think the incredible response to this show will mean CBS will be less likely to be intimidated about gay or other "hot button" issues. I hope so. While "hot button" issues will undoubtedly turn some people off, those types of stories almost always need to be told and discussed.

I'm catching the three reruns this week. I forgot all about this episode. I remember being very moved by the ending wedding ceremony. I may have to revamp my choices for Best Episode Awards. I am writing things down.

I definitely got more out of this episode this time around. I find that I'm so busy trying to figure things out that I end up missing a lot the first time around. Second viewing is very helpful with this show.

Aww! I was so looking forward to watching this eppy on Thursday because I had missed it before. But the news took the time slot at the last minute because of the "Operation Tennessee Waltz" corruption scandal!! :smile7:

Second viewing is very helpful with this show. I agree, TVFan, as I just said on the Blank Generation thread. First time thru isn't enough on some of these eps. Hi firefox, I don't know how many times the eps will reair this summer but this one may have a chance for another repeat. ~Naj

The CBS site has this as running Sept. 4. I'm going to cross my fingers and hope it's still Best Friends. They haven't rerun it yet.

Kerrrrrapp..... My DVD recorder messed up the recording, and I missed out the first scene of the episode.... Still, from reading the comments here, I think I can figure out what I missed and can say that it was a rather good episode. It's getting late, so I have to rush through this posting... Sorry if some of the grammar is confusing. Queen Village.... Yeah, that *is* a section of Center City that isn't too far from the "Gay District" of town, though it actually goes back *hundreds* of years and has nothing really much to do with being gay! Still, it made me smile though, that they had mentioned it in the episode. Although demographically inaccurate, it is geographically correct. They were quite accurate about Rittenhouse Square being an upper-class neighborhood...and that *was* an actual picture of Rittenhouse condos in the episode. Also correct is the shot of Logan Circle when looking out the brother's office towards the end. I really like it when they show actual shots of Philly in the show. Thumbs up to that!! The bathhouses are also rather accurate to my knowledge. (Believe it or not, I actually lived right on the edge of Philadelphia's "Gayborhood" at one time...) This article is about the drug trade in what I think is the last of such bathhouses in Philly. Everyone has talked about this being a "Blue State" episode, but I found it quite balanced in terms of appealing towards "Liberals" and "Conservatives" alike. I liked the way they weaved the Parable of the Prodigal Son into the episode. I thought it was a clever way to appeal towards the "conservative" viewers, while writing a story for "liberals". Darn... I wish my DVD recorder didn't mess up the recording, because it seems as if this is yet *another* episode that associates Christianity with Scotty. Very much good timing again, as Scotty gives the "not my brother's keeper" quote in the season four episode "The Key" just *last night*!!!! WAYYY COOL with the timing of both episodes!! *yawn!*

It's just ironic that this episode re-aired shortly after Static did

That was an interesting episode but glad they had Scotty keep his remarks to himself.
I thought it was the brother who killed him and not the father and thought that was interesting.

I usually love the episodes that dealt with GLBT themes, but this one left me cold.
I had trouble believing that Artie would be alive and healthy in 2004, especially when he was so sick in 1983. It was also hard to believe that Carlo would still be alive. I know there are good drug treatments, but they weren't available in 1983. It would have made much more sense if Jeff had been the one with HIV.
A lot of the characters seemed to be written sloppily, especially the father at the hospital.
The ending also seemed a bit rushed. It was like they thought "Oooh, let's have the brother be hiding a big secret" then they couldn't think of one that was interesting. The brother was a pretty heartless killer- bashing his brother to death in cold blood.
I didn't like the ending song, and I usually love 80s music. It's a pity they started with It's Raining Men, then went downhill with the songs.
