Argh! You're in the same position as me! Bein' in the same country an' all. I loved the shot in the bar when she leaned back and was holding her hands up. It seemed like a....I'm not sure. It's a hard-to-explain moment...

Updated: 7-27-05 - As a2z states below, CBS has decided not to air this episode on August 14th. We will update you should they decide to rerun this episode at another time this summer.

CBS will be reairing Red Glare instead. They already ran Red Glare and it's (imo) one of the worst episodes of the season. Ravaged was a great ep! :smile29:

I can't believe they haven't rerun this one. It looks like it's going to get overlooked. I wonder why and how they choose which ones they run several times while others not.... :smile24:

I wonder the same thing Naj. This one, Creatures of the Night, and Kensington all got overlooked this summer. I'm hoping that CBS reruns them during their "Crime time Saturdays" this season. I'm trying to collect all of the eps since we're not getting DVDs, and those are the only three I'm missing. CBS also failed to rerun Strange Fruit, but I kept that one the first time it aired.

FINALLY a rerun of this ep. The actor that plays Sloane is great and a very good case.

Finally got this one taped. They waited so long to rerun it. But this is one of their better quality epiodes so it was worth the wait. What amazes me is the amount of torture I feel watching Sloane deal with her life in which she is treated like dirt by everyone. No one seems to have any common decency towards her or even cares about her to help her. It's just one thing after another. I felt so bad for her and her dog.

As I was watching this episode, I was trying to figure out where that bar "Sansom's Tavern" was located. I lived on Sansom Street about ten years ago, so I was very interested to see if they used an actual tavern in Philly for the episode. It turns out that they didn't. Anyway, it was kind of funny for me to watch because Sansom Street has a *lot* of bars and restaurants that stretch from about 12th Street in Center City, all the way to about 40th Street in West Philly. The bars and restaurants in Center City are almost all very decent, though there are very occasional hole-in-the-walls. In West Philly, a lot of the bars are college hangouts because it runs right through the middle of the University City section of West Philly, between UPenn and Drexel University. --- I like how the episode started in the Philly PD. Vera is upset that he's missing his "Tastykakes" and accuses Scotty of stealing them. This little 'situation' in the office is rather similar to the kind of ads the company tends to run. Listen to "Sharing" at this link. What I like even more about this scene is how Scotty tosses Vera a strudel in consolation. This little scene foreshadows the story of how Vera seems to have given up something he was really interested in (Megan) for something second-best (Julie). I wonder if the writers knew that "Strudel" is German for "Whirlpool"?? (See the Wikipedia.org link.) Is this in its own way another Water reference??

LOL! Now that's interesting. boxman, So I wonder why they don't use real Philly bars then. Last week's 8 years had Stillman taking his former to Irene's. I guess there's no place like that either? I wonder if they would have to pay the owner to use the name?

I wonder if they would have to pay the owner to use the name? From what I know about the film industry, its probably partly because they can control sound and lighting more tightly in a studio than on location. An actual restaurant wouldn't be built to block outside urban noises from being heard; and as the show use film, the lighting conditions need to be set very accurately to look good and not be over- or under- exposed. Yeah, I hate to say it, but I don't think there is an actual Irene's in Philly. Still, there's a *lot* of intimate and romantic little restaurants like that in many parts of the city, so don't be disappointed, Naj! One of the very few times I've seen the show use an actual Philly restaurant (only for an outside location, though) was in the episode "Superstar". I've got information already there in that thread, and look for another post.... --- ETA: Funny that you mention "8 Years", Naj... In that episode, there's Petey, whose life also takes a downturn in his twenty-something years due to alcohol abuse; and then there's also Sally, who like Sloan, was a Homecoming queen...

Reference to water but also to the purity (again) and the love The strudel (“swirl”) is thus one of the cakes the most famous Vienneses. And according to the tradition, the paste must be stretched by innocent hands so that one can read a love letter with through!

Tuned into this re-run last Sunday, and I really enjoyed the ep. I was hooked within the first minute. The actress playing Sloane was phenomenal (so right, Naj) - I really enjoyed her performance. I thought it was both controlled and uncontrolled, which added great depth and multiple layers to the character. I think what I enjoyed the most about this ep was the Vera storyline/connection to the case. Jeremy Ratchford's performance was perfectly tempered. It was so very real - the idea he comes across this gal he loved in high school, yet is still so self-conscious as a grown man whilst also wrestling with the idea that she was arguably "the one." There was something refreshing about having the guy have the self-image / shyness / wishing they could be together feeling as opposed to the girl (which seems to be the more stereotypical way storylines like this are handled). Thus, I liked this sort of reverse angle. And, I just enjoyed the interaction between the two characters - again, there was a realness to the dialogue, the scenario. It was not forced; it was not overdone. It was well-paced and well-timed. And anytime we get to see a bit more of the personal sides of all the detectives is a nice plus. Of course Lilly was her usual fabulous self ... but I believe Vera (and Sloane) were the drivers of this ep - and rightfully so.

And according to the tradition, the paste must be stretched by innocent hands so that one can read a love letter with through! Interesting!! Then can we say that although Nick and Julie have "troubled waters" to navigate through, that their love for each other is still pure and innocent?? That's what a "Tastykake" versus "strudel/whirlpool" symbolism would seem to imply... --- Did they ever reveal what triggered Sloan's alcoholism?? I don't think I remember hearing about any event in her life that triggered it. When the show has a character that abuses drugs or alcohol, they usually mention what life event triggered it, but it seems to have been left open in this episode. A bit unusual since Sloan was a major character. Her depression didn't seem to be genetic, did it? After all, her sister Megan seemed quite normal. I was wondering if Sloan was suffering from postpartem depression?? With the two very young kids?? Apparently, from the conversation with her husband in the parking lot, she must have been "normal" when she gave birth to her kids.... If Sloan indeed did suffer from postpartem depression, then it adds a ***very strange*** twist to Nick and Julie's story.....

I'm really glad this ep reran again too! My fave part still is Lilly at the end with Rick. Kathryn is so talented at playing to acting parts at the SAME time! She has to play Lilly, AND Lilly acting like she has a problem! She rocks, nuff said! Of course we all already knew this! Anyways I also enjoy watching Vera drool over his old girlfriend, and he was so pitiful saying "It shoulda been me and you..." SO sweet! All in all I still love this ep! The case was great too, so sad about Sloane...
