This episode is one of my favorites from season 3 so far. I loved the scenes with Vera and the little baby. I also liked seeing Scotty and Lilly talking and being happy together at the beginning. It's nice to see they're acting like friends again. Although I didn't like the scene with the dog being beaten to death (it sickens me how cruel people can be to animals). It was also sad how Frank was trying to be open to Tommy and trying to be willing to be a better dad but Tommy wouldn't listen.
This ep was excellent; we even got some real emotion from Lilly in the scene when she was interrogating Tommy and when she mentioned her father. . .

anna---Lilly was telling Scotty that Kat Miller was joining homicide. Scotty asked her how she found that out and she said from "sources" and they smiled at eachother. Later, Stillman told the both of them that Kat was coming to homicide, and Scotty gave Lilly a little look that seemed to say "Wow, you were right!" If I missed anything someone please correct me.

This wasn't my favorite episode of the season but it was a very strong, solid one. I think the writer did a good job of fleshing out all of the characters being investigated for the murder. Frank seemed like a great guy and it was a shame he was killed. I also enjoyed a lot of the music played(Natalie Merchant is one of my faves) and I adored the storyline with Vera and the baby. Aww!

Yay, I finally got to watch Frank's best. Believe or not, I hadn't had a whole hour to myself to watch it in. I haven't read the other posts yet so I'm probably repeating lots of things, but I really liked it. The only weak part was the killer IMO. I just didn't buy Tommy's impulse control problem--that kinda rage simply doesn't build overnight, no matter how many problems you might have. Something would've leaked out long before his mom died. It was kinda funny to see him lose it though--it's like he turned into a shrill, screeching little girl when they got to him. If it had been a person with a REAL impulse control problem, the fight with his dad would've been reason enough to push him over the edge. But it didn't come through this way. Oh well. Anyway, for me at least, the good points far outweighed that single bad point. I loved the characters--Frank was incredibly endearing, I loved everything about him except when he told off his date. I mean, c'mon, it wasn't her fault his kid was acting up. But otherwise he was a nice, caring, loving parent and human being. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into the illegal immigrants' life and families, too. I was never illegal in the US, but I had friends whose parents were, and whatever you may hear--whatever you might watch on TV--can never be as bad as the truth. It takes some gut to be illegal, I sure hope I never am. Last but not least, I loved the Vera storyline. All his hidden natural sweetness came out. It WAS kinda strange he was filling out the adoption application by himself at the end... but I guess his wife must've been doing it too, cuz I imagine in the US, like here, it's much harder for single people, particularly men, to get kids. And, man was that baby a doll. EDIT: After reading everyone else's comments, I gotta add I agree with TVFan 99.9% (the 0.1% being that I didn't think Tommy had motive enough to kill his dad). The writer makes these characters very very human and believable, and that's always appreciated. I also agree with classic; the scene with the poor hurt dog made me sick! I can't stand anyone being cruel to an animal. Poor doggy, I'm glad he made it.

I just finished watching the repeat of this episode on CBS, and I really liked this episode. Frank was such a great character, he was so lovable, and I love episodes where you feel really sad at the end...I also think Lily looked great in this ep, she didn't have all that cakey makeup that she seems to have in season 3...

That was my first time seeing that episode and I loved it. One of the best I've. I loved how in the end he adopted the baby.

Well, finally saw this one. It's a very interesting episode with Kat's introduction and with Scotty reopening the case because of his Spanish skills.
We also learn Scotty has a brother in the opening scenes.
Again, should I be surprised anymore? Oxford Circle, where Frank's deli and the animal clinic is located, is a real Philadelphia neighborhood and pretty much right on target to make this an actual case. Its in the southern edge of Northeast Philly, not very far from the Latino neighborhoods of North Philly. This makes the story of an Italian deli owner hiring an El Salvadorian immigrant plausible.
More importantly, Scotty mentions as they are looking for Felix that he's near his own childhood neighborhood. The son of a Cuban father and Puerto Rican mother, Scotty doesn't have the heavy Spanish accent like Ricardo or his brother. Growing up in this part of town, Scotty probably had enough non-Spanish friends to learn to speak English with the Philly accent, rather than a Spanish one.
Graterford Prison is also an actual high-security prison, located over thirty miles outside of Center City. Scotty is rather rightfully sour about having to go back to see Ricardo. The highways out there get heavy with traffic.

Wasn't it cute in the opening scene how the older ladies were trying to fix Frank up? They see him weekly from shopping there, and know he's a good enough guy to match-make. I like how the writers brought that in.

I continue to be amazed by your local insight boxman. I can't believe how much of it they get right. It really says a lot about this show that they put so much effort into making sure everything matches up properly. Thanks again for your insight.

I loved this episode. Really great episode about the struggles of an illegal immigrant. Very touching, it's a different feel to the latter seasons of "Cold Case". God, I miss this type of writing.
Hahaha Vera and a kid. *note to self* Remember that scene.

Liked this episode and thought it was cute Vera took care of the baby and wanted to adopt.
I liked how they brought Kat in though and I do agree that the way they brought "Josie chippy" in kinda seemed forced.
It was sad the son was the one who killed his father but glad they did help get a convicted man out.
