I gave this one a best of season based solely on the visuals of this episode. Well, I used to take classes in video production, I liked the editing portion. Therefore good editing/visuals in an episode makes me happy.
There was something about that last photo (the one that Lilly is looking at, at the end.) The first one being that the picture is taken from behind. The second one being that the man (presumably Lilly's father.) is all, but completely taken out of the photo. After all we only see his right arm, some of his right side, and right leg. Obviously whoever took the photo was a street photographer.

I think for me the best part of the whole episode was the ending moments between Betty and Rita.
"Things can change for you. I started right where you did."
"That's what hurts the most."
Really, REALLY great acting by both parties there, because you really felt that pain Betty was feeling, knowing that they both had the same dreams and aspirations and came from the same lowly place, but yet Rita was famous and rich (she is living well for a single woman in 1953) while Betty was reduced to stripping. That last line just gets me...."that's what hurts the most." It's knowing that your friends are successful and popular while you're not that can be the worst pain of all sometimes.

Total agreement. Those were the two best lines of the episode. Well, those and "research."

I wish I could go back and change my vote.....I really want to say "one of the season's best" just for the ending alone. The more I watch it, the more that ending keeps sticking with me. Probably because I can completely relate to Betty. I have friends I grew up with who are now married with kids and in medical school.....we all came from the same run-down neighborhood, went to the same schools, had the same family issues....and there they are, and here I am. When Betty said "that's what hurts the most" I could almost see myself saying that at my 10 year reunion in 2010.
Kudoes and a big round of applause to everyone involved with this episode. It seems for me at least, we had an episode come close to equaling Wednesday's Women.

Anyone get that Scotty had met Elissa during a stickball game, and now he's hitting ball with Frankie? Of and sweatshirt hoodie was quite different than the one he had worn in " Blank Generation", for one thing the side pockets are much bigger.
Second, as a photographer nut myself I found a lot of the pictures to be of what I sometimes take when just walking around. It's true that you can look at the same picture twice and find new meaning to , which is probably what Lilly was doing at the end.

Apart from the forced/contrived Scotty photo girl thing this episode was pretty good. This is the third episode I've seen from this season (Wednesday's Women and the season premier) and comparing them to those two it stacks up pretty well. It seems like they're gonna introduce Lily's father sometime soon, and I'm actually confident that the writers wont fvck it up like they have previous story lines, because from what I've seen this season they tend to be doing things better than recent times. I think I might've even enjoyed this episode even more if the website where I watched it had the audio in sync.

It was not a good episode.... at all!... It was perfect! from beginning to end... My favorite until now... Our rule is once again proven right, I wasn’t grabbed by this episode but was pretty sure you’ll love it, while watching! The episode started well with Lilly and Scotty heading to Jones, and when the guy came in with the new lead, I was like Noooooo!!! Tell him it’s too late, I want to see you guys at the tavern! The only things I liked was the reconstruction of the 50s (even if I am not a big fan of this era) and the cinematography, they are truly great at it. But else… Rita was not compelling at all for me. She was too perfect and the plastered smile was annoying. The portraying was perfect though, it was like she was posing all the time. Even dead she seemed to hold a pose! The scene where Rita was shooting pictures in the streets could have been really good, it was a bit a bowl of fresh air (except for the closing montage, every scene of this episode was set indoor, I miss the nice Philly outside scenes we had at the beginning of the season) but the music of Best Friends drew me out, because then I had more memories of this episode flooding back. So I plead guilty for the “OK” vote. I have noticed it too (that b&w flashback was gorgeous btw) and also a change between the style of the first 3 flashbacks where Rita was on full pinup mode (they seem to have some kind of filter on them, which makes it look like old retouched pictures) and the other 3 flashbacks where she was more a photographer than a model (no more filter, the image looked more real).

LOL. I know there has to be an episode we both liked... We have different styles but that's fine... Heading to Jones... was there someone called Jones on this ep?

I'd say overall it was a fairly good episode. I found all of the characters a lot of fun. I wonder why Scotty was so scornful with Beanie. Yes, following Rita around creepy, but he was a kid, after all. I knew Rita being the much better photographer than her hack beau meant he'd turn out to be a loser (though he was at least helpful to the investigation) but what was most surprising I think was how Monty turned out. I assumed he was going to turn out to be just another slimy boss-type with no respect for women that we've had on the show before but he turned out to be the most supportive of Rita's new pursuit. Yes, there was definately some self-interest in his support, ("What a sell! Queen of the lens!") but he was clearly fond of her. As for Scotty's new love interest Frankie, well I think one episode's too soon to judge. One thing's for sure, Tania Raymonds is definately NOT Alex from "Lost" here. The make-up, the more confident attitude. The two characters have nothing in common (aside from having boy's names. ) They didn't even bring up the age difference at all (maybe cause she's playing a little older than she actually is). Since I got spoiled as to the killer's identity early on, how surprising it was or wasn't is kind of a moot point for me. Still, something tells me I would have guessed pretty early on. One thing I gotta ask: Lilly tells Betty "Someone once told me God shines His light on those who ask for forgiveness". Was this a call-back to an earlier episode? It would really cool if it was, especially since they don't reference past episode too often on the show (which I kinda wish they'd do more of!) Finally, can we just get to her meeting Cooper already? Even those of you who avoid spoilers must have figured it out by now! Come on! Let's see him!

I finally saw this episode...im always late seeing them. i thought it was excelents. I really liked the story in this one. I am wondering about the picture lilly was looking at at the end, though. Maybe it was, as you all said, her and her father. Scotty/frankie is interesting....i wish it was scotty/lilly and they were going to the bar together at the beginning oh well....I guess we'll have to see where all this goes...i really want to see who cooper is for sure.

I think they were just headed down to Jones tavern, to meet up with the rest of the squad, the two probably were working later than usual. The God thing kind of reminds me of " creatures of the night", when Roy said that when God shines his light hence makes him chose the person. Maybe Lilly had taken that out of context and reworded it in order to make Betty Sue confess.

Yeah, it'd be nice if they were making more references to past episodes. I can't think of a direct reference but it reminded me of these 2: "Creatures of the Night" for the "shines a light" like longislanditalian2 said. But that's not related to forgiveness at all... "The Runner" where Lilly made the guy confess in the church by putting the emphasis on his search for forgiveness. yeah it could have been the start of something.... the start of what? I am not in favor of a "start of something" between them, I just want them to interact together! I miss that... The last time they kinda talked, it was about Saccardo's shoes. Fascinating!!! Lilly has nice interactions with the others (pizza with Vera, rollerskating with Jeffries, Stillman always sharing memories with her) and the Scotty/Kat scenes have been awesome, but between Lil and Scotty, nothing.

Well, That's right ... They don't interact together very much. However, We could say the same about Kat Miller... They are not together very often... I do not know why
