The ending song " End of the World" was recently playing in "Boy Crazy". I instantly saw that Lilly isn't still over her mother's death during the first scene with the daughter Rachel. There is signs she still really misses her, but Lilly read Scotty's mind ( they have unspoken Communication) about Elisa.
She knew he was thinking about Elisa, in Scotty's heart he misses her terribly. Feels all alone and helpless wanting to save her but couldn't, Personally he feels weak but manages to help Rachel understand and solve Nancy's case when everybody else thinks it's an open and shut case. Major Kudos to Danny Pino he really did an outstanding job in this episode.
I liked the how they showed Lilly and Scotty in the shadows standing close to each other, kinda of giving me the impression of the x-files for some reason. Does this mean the two will be together, one could only hope. Or perhaps it simply means a connection the two share.
Annette mentioning about Lilly's too beautiful all she does is bat her eyelashes and gets everything, but little does she know how lonely her heart is. Lilly isn't one to take everything for granted since she grew up poor with a drunken Mother.

I liked this episode. I definitely sensed this as a twisted version of Sylvia Plath-Ted Hughes which is probably why I suspected the husband all along. Maybe its just me but it seemed almost a copied plot of The World's End...some loser of a husband who can't control his wife blah blah so he offs her. I think the story couldve been a little more but the maid's meddling and the tidbit about Nancy's mother made this episode more interesting. I did like how they revisited Elisa's own problems and how it affected Scotty's personally. (besides the pedophilia thing again)
Thank god the new character "Eddie" was a no show in this one. he was a total turn off for me to watch..and last week's episode being a bit mediocre didnt help matters.
Overall..I give it an excellent. I can't really judge the time era feel since I wasn't born in the 60's but this episode made me want to see the Dick Van Dyke show just to make the comparison ha

I really enjoyed this one; it got off to a bit of a slow start, but it ended up being really, really good. I had no idea who the doer was until the end. Nancy's terror and confusion were very real; Emily Rose did a wonderful job. Loved, loved, LOVED the continuity of Scotty/Elisa. LOVED it. My jaw was on the floor when Lilly told him it wasn't about him or Elisa..."or is it?" It kind of was about Elisa, but it kind of wasn't. I just think it's amazingly cool that they haven't swept that issue under the rug, that they're showing that Scotty's still dealing with it. MAJOR props to the writers, and Danny did a fabulous job portraying how it's still affecting Scotty, but not controlling him. And the apple pie? Go, Jeffries. Seriously.

This one definitely garnered an "Excellent" from me. It was very well done, clever, and it kept me guessing. I had read that this outing was loosely based on the 1944 classic Gaslight, so I had a pretty good idea what was going on with Nancy, but I didn't know who was behind it and why. This episode had so many twists and turns and had me going, "Huh???" so much I became completey engrossed in the story. And everything came together perfectly in the end. I can't tell you how many times I alternated between suicide and murder and then back to suicide. I love psychological stuff and this case was purely psychological. It's really freaky that someone can make another person go insane by convincing them that they already are (and throwing in a bit of family history just for good measure). The kick of the whole thing was that Daniel was the crazy one -- not his wife. He was sick with jealousy over her natural writing talent and he convinced himself that she stole his work rather than vice versa. He couldn't comprehend how a "child of the state" would be able to write something so beautiful while he, with the PhD and the compliment that his pen had been "touched by the gods," could be left with a book of mediocre poetry. So, he convinced his wife (with some help from the housekeeper) that she had gone off the deep end just like her mother and then faked her suicide so he could steal her work. The thing that got me, though, was his lack of remorse. You would think that after all of these years, he would have felt a ping or two of guilt for killing his wife and stealing her work (the work that earned him a Poet Laureate title), but he was so cold or nuts or just obsessed with the attention her work got him or all of the above to care about the people he mowed over in the process. Just wow. I enjoyed the continuity with Scotty's story in this one. Elisa was the love of his life, so it feels only natural that a case surrounding a supposed mentally ill woman who allegedly committed suicide would affect him more than the others. My heart broke a little for him when the case pointed back to suicide and he was left searching for any thread of credibility that pointed to murder. He looked so defeated, and Lilly could only reassure him that Nancy wasn't Elisa and her case wasn't about Elisa's suicide or Scotty's guilt. It was a nice side plot that allowed the viewers to fill in the blanks. I also enjoyed Lilly's interrogation with Annette. The irony that Annette equated Lilly's beauty with her employer's and jumped to the conclusion that she has it easy because she's beautiful was well done. I liked the way Kathryn played Lilly in this scene. That "if you only knew" look on her face when Annette made her assumptions (when we all know that her personal life is a complete disaster) was brilliant. Nice scene. And speaking of nice scenes, I loved that Jeffries and the housekeeper/former dancer story!! I laughed out loud when Vera almost stole his milk. CLASSIC! I wonder if he'll be enjoying any more apple pie in the future. Overall, an excellent episode from top to bottom!

I liked the how there were so many twists and turns. The light really reflected each mood of each scene. How Nancy's own past was haunted her like Lilly's is right now to Scotty's which is pretty intense.
Nancy got justice but Lilly needs to move on about her mother, Scotty's came let go of Elisa. The two are alike in bottling up their emotions and blaming themselves for not being about to save the people that mattered in their lives. The Vase of Roses that were in the wall struck me because the older Rachel was watering her own but was most interesting is the actress who played her last name was Rose.
Here's another thing Lilly is a name of a flower and also of our favorite detective. Delicate and fraigle the flower is described like her but perhaps the name given to Lilly represents how she feels internally breaking down inside but outside remains strong and beautiful. Perhaps there is a connection so deep there are signs that are shown through her character and the storyline.
Scotty wants to save people but ends up losing the one's he cares about. He cares and Lilly but already messed up his chances of them two ever being together but saved her life. He can't reveal his own internal feelings cause of that wall making him feel weak and needy like Lilly feels inside.
Did anyone notice that Lilly's hair was slightly curly during her interrogation with Annette?

Its the first time I think Cold Case used a song they used before End of the World It was also in Boy Crazy Does anyone know if the show has done that before?

Yes that song was used in : Boy crazy" but other songs have been repeated in other episodes.
One thing when Lilly mentions to Annette about her two story apartment, was this referring to her own life being alone?

I liked the episode okay. I didn't really find the case they were working to be THAT affecting but I did like the impact it had on Scotty and Lilly. Scotty still having trouble coping with Elisa's suicide... but my favorite was the housekeeper thinking she had Lilly pegged just because she was beautiful. Oh honey, you have no idea what lurks in Lilly's pretty, troubled head.

I voted "Good". There really wasn't a whole lot of suspects, and I kinda figured early someone was setting Nancy up to think she was crazy, so the story unfolded in a way that wasn't too surprising to me. She knew he was thinking about Elisa, in Scotty's heart he misses her terribly... Thank god the new character "Eddie" was a no show in this one. he was a total turn off for me to watch..and last week's episode being a bit mediocre didnt help matters. Loved, loved, LOVED the continuity of Scotty/Elisa. LOVED it. My jaw was on the floor when Lilly told him it wasn't about him or Elisa..."or is it?" ...And the apple pie? Go, Jeffries. Seriously. I also enjoyed Lilly's interrogation with Annette. The irony that Annette equated Lilly's beauty with her employer's and jumped to the conclusion that she has it easy because she's beautiful was well done. I liked the way Kathryn played Lilly in this scene... One thing that kept bugging me throughout was that I kept thinking this episode would've been soooo much more enjoyable for soooo many reasons if it was aired two weeks ago, as a follow-up to the outstanding "The Road". For example, I thought that certain scenes in this episode make a nice continuation and follow-up to the Lilly/Scotty shipper storyline from "The Road". I'm not a 'shipper', but the scenes you folks mention above help make a lot of sense to me that something could happen between the two. On top of that, the new Jeffries love-interest storyline is looking sweet too. It also seems more plausible to me than seeing Lilly fall for Eddie.. ... but my favorite was the housekeeper thinking she had Lilly pegged just because she was beautiful. Oh honey, you have no idea what lurks in Lilly's pretty, troubled head. Ha ha ha.... Welcome to the board, Janus! The Vase of Roses that were in the wall struck me because the older Rachel was watering her own but was most interesting is the actress who played her last name was Rose... Good catch, LII!

As usual, you're absolutely right, boxman. I never really question the order of episodes, but this one would have been far more satisfying had it immediately followed "The Road." Although there was nothing blatantly shippy about this episode, I thought "The Road" did an excellent job of showing how well Scotty understands Lilly, and this one showed, in just that brief little scene, how well Lilly understands Scotty. It would have been much more satisfying than barbeque bribery.

Wow. I loved that. Loved it.
The bad, first. The use of the song at the end, having been used so recently in a previous episode, grated on me and detached a little from the montage as a whole. It always bugs me when they use the same song in multiple episodes, but for some reason this one really stuck out to me.
That's... pretty much it for the bad, actually.
The Elisa Thing. Guh. So many times, I'll watch an episode and sit there waiting and waiting for them to pay homage to some previously-mentioned event in one or another of the detectives' personal lives, and almost every single time, they'll completely neglect to even acknowledge it in passing. FINALLY, they actually came out and paid that homage, and I loved the hell out of it. It wasn't overplayed, wasn't given more than nine words' worth of reference, just mentioned quietly in passing. And that is EXACTLY what I wanted. Any more, I think, would have completely ruined the moment. Just nine words, and not even from Scotty himself. To me, that was perfect.
Jeffries and his new girlfriend? Could not have been done better, IMHO, or introduced in a better episode. In a story filled with ghosts and shadows, it was like a tiny little sparkle of promise that kept the whole thing from getting too dark at exactly the right moments. And, unlike Lilly/Saccardo, before they even said a word to each other, the chemistry was apparent between them. Just... adorable.
The case itself, I loved... though, again, I did feel their song choices for the flashbacks weren't quite up to their usual standards of awesomeness. In an odd sort of way, and not to belittle it at all, it reminded me a LOT of a recent storyline in one of the three big British Soap Operas, wherein one of the characters made a feint at trying to make another character believe she was going insane. Only, of course, CC did it so very much better. I think the direction for the flashback scenes was beautiful... very didactic, in the way that makes you feel what Nancy is feeling, without even realising that you're feeling it until the flashback ends and you find yourself breathing again. I can't really explain it, but I found them very very affecting.
On the whole, then... lovely. Very affecting, very dark, and very much a change of pace from all the formulaic 2000+ cases we've been force-fed recently. Loved it.
Also... I'm not usually one to notice the subtle little things... but did anyone notice how long it took Scotty, at the end, to take his hand off the box? Almost as if he didn't want to let it go. I thought that was very very poignant, and - as I said - it's not the sort of thing I usually notice.

I liked Jeffries and his new girlfriend - nice chemistry! ;D Actually I loved it!
For what I could gather from the ep since there was local programming problems it really didn't surprise me about the housekeeper/babysitter but the husband wasn't shocking. I wondered why a writer didn't just stay at home and write so it was odd to me that he wasn't around the house. I enjoyed the music even if it was already used. And the Scotty Elisa connection worked pretty well for the theme of the ep. I thought it was a Good ep. I think at this point in the series especially season 6 if no one works for Lilly and Joseph or Ray don't return -it appears that the only logical person to have a relationship with Lilly would be Scotty. Maybe they could let them pal around together in their offtime more in season six.

Here's another thing in the beginning I could tell It looked strange the way Nancy was hung. If she did it herself there would have been burn marks from the rope on her neck rather than Manual stranglation what the husband had done. Plus didn't the detectives see this and the drag marks from Nancy's shoes indicating she was dragged while being strangled, I'm sure the cops knew about this back in 1962. They didn't exactly need a forensic lab to tell them this.

Oh, I absolutely noticed. I thought it was extremely understated and very, very well-done.
I also noticed, upon re-watching, the lyrics to the song as Scotty saw Nancy:
Why does my heart go on beating Why do these eyes of mine cry Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when you said goodbye.
I don't know if that's intentional or not, but it was quite effective.

I really liked this episode. I loved how they finally gave Scotty some kind of closure on the Elisa situation in a plausible way. Loved that they're allowing Jeffries to have a life, and I hope we see more of that storyline. Really enjoyed the case, too. Though it was obvious that the husband stole Nancy's poetry, I thought it would be too obvious to have him as the doer - so I was surprised when it went down the way it did. And I love it when this show surprises me. And now for the shallow part... this really just struck me because I've been watching older eps recently - but compare 1st/2nd season Lilly with this season. Don't get me wrong, she is and always will be attractive (massive understatement) BUT... something's way different, and... ok, her hair and makeup have been discussed here, clearly both have changed and I'm not sure it's for the better. But I can deal with that. I hesitate to say this because I don't want to start a debate, and because I love Kathryn and this... issue... was clearly her call rather than the show's... well, I'll just spit it out. She's obviously injected her lips. And I HATE IT. Phew, there, I feel much better.
