I thought it was strange too, It's weird to see Lilly opening a cold case the first time. You can really see how much she's changed starting from the first episode... She's so determined in this one :smile92:

I've never seen it and if I have I probably don't remember. I can't wait. I'm going to tape it.

I just saw this one not too long ago, the initial case in the cold opening had the date as the case in question, but then CBS wigged out and went blank, then to a sudden commercial, went blank again, then a somehow fast variation of the Cold Case Intro (chipmunk style fast) and then went to the same date and song as with Badlands, i was all like 'what just happened?! i just saw this one last week!' and was initially confused. then even more confused that this one came after the last week's airing of Badlands, and it almost gave me the impression that Lilly was on an alternate timeline as she was in the diner at first as was with Badlands and then went to an entirely different case. i'm so glad i was told here by one of the main mods what was goin' on as i figured i was losing it.

Lilly was working on the same case as in the badlands, but gets called back to homicide about a case from 1976, we don't know what month it had taken place. While she solves the murder of Jill shelby; the other case which is seen 2x01; the lead suspect eventually gets thrown out of court promting Lilly to reopen it.
Once again Case is about Jill Shelby murdered in 1976..

yeah, i blame part of my confusion on CBS for airing CC episodes out of sync. season one one week, season 6 another. sheesh.
Also, there have been times lately with automated syncing erros on CBS, like commercial breaks that somehow interrupt with a frozen picture of the scene before the break, to blanking out and showing a recalled repeat of an episode again, so i was all confused.
iirc the Badlands episode also showed a flashback scene to this one

I loved it! Of course as a late edition to the CC Fan Club, I watched this one on TNT, and was hooked immediately! My favorite scene is where Vera tells her that her boyfriend is downstairs and she says, Not mine I'm single.
I will always have this episode in my top ten of CC!

It was a great episode. A perfect pilot. A strong female leading role remaining a lady. All is given clearly.
And we had the number 1 mislead about Lil's character. He mentions a marriage with an alcooholic but her partner didn't know. First thought "She hides things or she lies?" She was just telling stories to the suspect, a technique disappeared after that and reappeared because of Saccardo's mention much much later.
I saw it one year later I started watching the series. (In fact I don't even remember from which episode I started watching...! ;D ) Did anyone notice how much lighter is KM's voice is this episode??

@leni- I noticed that as well, but it could be Kathryn just getting into the role of Lilly Rush she wasn't totally in that role yet.

This Lilly Married Before? may be of interest to you. I know I had problems deciphering what is real or unreal, at times, with Lilly's interrogations. It was a great episode. A perfect pilot. Hello boys and girls! Hey there! I got a chance to watch this pilot last night, and it was wonderful! KM was stunningly lovely - she still is of course. But I really admired her look in the early seasons of the show - her looks, her attitude, her way of doing work - it was a very special time. Of course, I did not see this live, and did not even become a fan until S2, but I have seen this episode more than once - it's always good to go back and relive some good times, you know? I know KM had no idea whether the show would last at that point, and seven seasons later the show is still going strong! In particulars, it was cool to see Chris Lassing in his short stay, and I liked getting to know Lilly a little better as she was introduced as a character. She was out to solve the case, and it was very cool to watch her justify to the deceased girl's mother that the case should have been reopened, and she got the bad guy(s). Thanks for your attention and have a rocking Sunday, boys and girls!

Re-watched this episode since I saw it a few months ago.
I liked it but liked how things were back then even the show just started.
Miss seeing Jefferies with a little hair and mustache and didn't realize Vera looked so good in suspenders.

I loved this episode! ;D I re-watch it every time they have it on. I actually watched it a long time ago, probably when the show started, but i only caught the last part of it- when the guy was hitting the girl. I had no idea it was cold case, until I watched this episode again last year, then, I realized I could've become a cc fan since S1. I watched it yesterday in Spanish, just for the fun of it- my t.v. has that option. They do a pretty good translation, but they do omit some words, specially -bad words- like when Lilly said to the brother, -she was kind of a bi... to you that night. -the guy who does Jeffreys voice sounds a lot like him. I loved watching the show in English though, no question about it! ;D

This was a great pilot episode (although I didn't see it until I'd watched many other episodes). The characters are a little different to who they are later, but I think that's always the way with pilot episodes.
I'm glad Lilly became softer. In the pilot she's pretty harsh- a harshness that comes out sometimes, but is usually paired with a huge chunk of compassion.
No one else was interested in solving cold jobs- so I wonder when the rest of the team decided that Cold Cases would be their focus (it wasn't until Season Seven until it was confirmed the team did recent cases as well).
I like Chris, but I think Scotty was a much better fit, and helped to make the cast really diverse. Chris seemed to be happily married with kids. He had diabetes, but I don't think that would make for too many interesting storylines. I'm also really glad they added Kat. As much as I love Season One and Two, I always miss her in those episodes.
The case itself was good- not heart-wrenchingly sad, and it was quite obvious who had done it pretty quickly. I felt sorry for Eric. He seemed to really pay the price for being an accomplice. He didn't actually kill Jill, and he seemed sort of in shock and unable to stop it. He then spent nearly thirty years suffering for his sins. I hope confessing helped him, and I also hope that he only got a few years and was able to make a fresh start.
One thing that confuses me- in this episode, Eric watches as his brother murders someone, and is arrested for helping to cover it up. A few episodes later, Ryan watches as his mother murders someone, helps cover it up, and isn't arrested. They were both about the same age.
Todd Whitley was an awful guy- the first of many. Actually, come to think of it, in the first couple of episodes, the doers are all pretty reprehensible. They only started to add in some shades of grey later on.
Loved the closing montage- so classic Cold Case, and such perfect music. Loved the iconic moment of Lilly arresting Todd. A lot of scenes from this episode ended up in the credits, including Jill Shelby's picture.
