I didn't notice it, now I'm going to go look at it. I guess it must seem natural with them all working together.

I had forgot something I noticed with Lilly. When she and Scotty were talking to Tessie for the first time (outside), and when Tessie is telling Lilly about the nightmares she had about Mike, and then when Lilly says "oh, must have been awful", she sort of avoids looking at her and ends up looking RIGHT @ the camera for a split second! I was like OMG! I try to think of it as KM/ Lilly sending the fans, US, a message saying "help me!" When I had finally stopped it @ the right moment on my tape to snap a pic of it on my phone and send it to pealee . But I just had to say it here! And sorry if someone else has already posted that they noticed this too, I'm just sharing MY feelings about it

I don't think anyone has mentioned that moment but I noticed it when I got some caps from the episode. This is the shot: I didn't read anything into it. Lilly looked to one side, that meant that KM was looking at the camera. It might have been a mistake.

CCGirl is so excited about that. Hehe. I never would have caught that but my girl did!
Oh and it took me till the 3rd time watching this ep last night with CCGirl that I finally saw where Scotty drank out of Lilly's coffee cup. I know everyone kept saying it happened but when I finally saw it myself, I was like OMG he did! Lol.
This is difinitly one of my favorites. Vera and Kat still crack me up. The Lilly scenes were amazing and the team picking on Will were really cute and funny.
I'm just dying to see more of Lil. If the writers don't want to write me and CCGirl can be in LA in like 6 hours and we'll write for free!

A great episode, although that the theme of the story of course is not a great one, but seeing Veena Sud as writer on the list, I already was quite confident, that it was in good hands.
A touching case. Yup, we had not many so ugly victims in CC, where you wished, they would have never digged into the case again. And though I'm very strict in saying, law is law (and real justice a different thing), even I hoped during the entire episode, that they find some way, to make things not worse for the doer in the end, having the little brother on mind as prime suspect very early. The only other ep I remember, where I was glad in the end, that it seemed, that the doer would more or less get away with maybe an easy sentence was The Good Death (4x23), though totally different situation, not comparable.
I liked that they showed a variety of reactions of rape victims (different from Our Boy Is back / Useless Cats IMO). All suffering but in different ways. Still coming together at one point, to put an end to it and fight back. It's the silence and isolation that kills (litterally and figuratively), coming from shame and no hope for understanding and help. Situation today has improved, in the sense that society isn't ignoring or even denying something like date rape as it did 10 or 20 years ago. But, as victim you fight the very same feelings of guilt. And even though the women here faced the guy, hoping to find conclusion perhaps, they still struggle with what happened.
And you still can get the feeling, you did something wrong, met the wrong guy, or maybe even exaggerate what happened. That didn't change so much. Depends a lot on who you talk to. The more important it is, that more women work in police ranks on different levels. Not that women automatically are more sensetive, but think most do react different. No offense, guys, as well I as a woman wouldn't understand some guy things.
Knowing that this subject tends to touch me deeply I'm mostly though even more critical about it when watching it in a tv show. Especially sensitive about describing women just as the poor, helpless victim. Or turning them into a rageful avenging angel. Think they did a good job here to balance it well.
But it's a while since I've seen the show, maybe watch it again to get more into story details.
Remember though good as well, that I liked the dynamic of the main cast. Agree with what some said, Veena Sud is one who knows the characters from the start and I think it is noticeable. And she is good in giving the main characters a lot of interesting moments while writing a good case episode. Not to mention the fine balance of tension, dismay and relaxing aka funny moments. Close to perfect here.
On my list of best episodes of this (short) season.

I gave this one an "excellent"... although to be perfectly truthful, the case itself was merely "ok". Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad--it was just sort of predictable. The theme was meaningful though, and the actual killing made sense--but none of those things were the central part of the episode for me.
Nope, what I liked best about this episode were the characters, both main and secondary, and their interactions. I'm loving the team spirit this 5th season, the writers have finally got it down pat--the little tensions, the slight flirting, the sarcasm, the banter, all those things that normally go on between workmates are there. Each ep gets a little better in that sense, and it's really great to watch. At least, I'm really really enjoying it.
Loved the bit about Jeffries hating to be boss, and the actual boss (whose name has unspeakably escaped me at the moment) not wanting to come back, wanting to "get a life", Kat & Vera going at it ALL the time, Vera wrinkling his nose at the victim when he saw him (THAT WAS PURE AWESOMENESS). They've done Lil's nightmare arc really well, you feel like YOU're having the dream, and her pouring her guts out this time seemed fitting. I loved the little shoulder squeeze she gives Tessie during the interrogation--it's so typical of when you REALLY understand what the person's going through.
I really, really liked the ballbustin' cop woman Lafferty too. She was a real b*tch, no respect even for our gals, but her heart was in the right place. So many years of watching sh*t happen will do that to ya, I guess.
In a way you could say I even "liked" the rapist kid character. I mean, I hated his disgusting guts, but you gotta admit he was well written--asshole to the core. Might seem exaggerated, but there's lots of pr*cks like that ruling the world. Just as long as they can trick people into believing they're God's gift to the universe. I'm GLAD he got shot. And I'm glad the little kid didn't get blamed for it (I had him pegged as the doer the minute I laid eyes on him).
Yet another thing I enjoyed--they REALLY showed how people age, and age BADLY, in this ep. Very true to life. They still look like themselves, but deteriorated. From the barbie-like cop woman who now more resembled a pit bull to the pretty girl who tried to confide in her roommate and... well, you know. No disrespect intended to the actresses, of course.
THUMBS UP!

Crappers! I double-posted and deleting's been disabled. Mods, can you get this for me? Purty please? *****EDIT***** Hmm, reading the other posts I realized I haven't said ANYTHING new. Oh well... it comes from the heart, kinda cool that we all thought basically the same thing. Only 2 things I must add: 1. I hadn't made the "ho's" connection. Veena Sud reads this site, at least she has every once in a while, so I wouldn't be surprised if she were having a bit of fun at our expense. I would, if I were her. Slip little furtive "hints" into the eps I mean. And then scour the posts and see if anyone caught them. I'm guessing she doesn't have much time for that though. ;D 2. I'm afraid I DON'T agree with TVFan's assessment of how good Lilly looked in this ep. In fact, I found myself thinking constantly about how DESTROYED she looked. Pale, almost nonexistent--eyeshadow too dark. It's a good "haunted" look, very appropriate given the circumstances but... pretty? No.

Quite simply the best ever episode I have seen.
I can't actually find enough words to explain how much I love this episode, I have seen it 6 times this last 2 weeks.
Brilliant, simply amazing each time.

I really liked watching this again. I had forgotten how riveting the ending was, and it crept up to me by surprise again. The songs were also wonderful to hear.

here's a trivia: the actress who plays young melinda is laurie metcalfe's (as jacky in roseanne) kid. she resembles her in a lot of ways. she's also jeff perry's kid as well (played the older version of eric witt (killer) in the episode superstar)

She really does look and sound like a young Laurie Metcalfe, doesn't she? According to IMDB, she even played young Jackie in a couple of episodes of "Roseanne" (I'm guessing in flashbacks). Here's something you might find interesting: Justin Hartley, who played Mike Delaney, is coming to my town for a convention in a couple of weeks (he plays the Green Arrow on "Smallville"). I thought at the Q&A, I might try to slip in a "Cold Case" question or two. Any suggestions on what to ask? (Let's not go with the lame ones like "What was KM like?")

This is one of my favourite episodes ever (although, bear in mind that I haven't seen all of them). Haunting, poignant, brilliant and superbly acted. It really drove home what, for me, is one of Cold Case's key themes: the inability to move on from the past and things you have done before. The comedy moments of Jeffries being called "Boss" and Vera and Kat were great. Lilly's line, "I don't name 'em, I just drink 'em," made me laugh. There was great acting from each of the girls and the detectives were on top form as usual.
The ending was my favourite ending of CC ever, with Lilly and Scotty manipulating Jimmy's testimony so that the DA wouldn't charge him, and Tessie saying, "You're all I've got left." It was just so sad and I loved every moment of it. Maggie Lafferty was an amazing character, and her flashback scene of giving Tessie the gun and then saying that someone had to do something...and she had some great moments of comedy criticising Lilly like she did. However, I have two minor nitpicks - I would have liked more focus on the "women on the wall", like a flashback sequence and I really think they should have focused on Mike's family even a little. Imagine how devestating it would be for them to think they had 'the perfect son', only to find out the horrible things he had done to those women. The latter was what I especially missed.

One of the seasons best for sure!
It was an episode clearly based on the main idea "Hope lives because evidence never dies" in a general way, however. The "evidence" was for both sides. The girls and Tes' brother found peace because the truth set them free and the victim was no more the "good handsome guy" that seemed when he was alive.
Lil insisted on the case for this reason. However, even if she kept telling that the nightmares wouldn't stop if Tes didn't speak, she, herself, said nothing and she even didn't do it in any of the following episodes. She never shared it. The only thing that we can count down is that she admitted it in front of Scotty but she ran away before telling a word more. Scotty didn't tell a thing in the discussion with the others because he just knew the reason she insisted but he knows her, too.
Anyway, from the first scene, I loved, also, the moment when Scotty pronounced the word "tequilla" in fluent Spanish... ;D ;D
And, btw, KM should have had a cold during the shot of many scenes of this episode and the first of the next...

Pretty much everyone has stated what I would have said about the episode.
I did love the Vera and Kat snapping at each other, Will telling everyone to go home.
Loved the piece of paper that said Lieutenant on Will's desk.
Glad they did put John in the episode, I thought maybe they would have just not shown him at all.
