- Lilly's nightmare, interesting and a nice cutting. So, anyone with ideas, why she is dreaming particular about this? Fluorescent lights--the long tubular type--have been used before in the show as a symbol associated with Crime. For one thing, they're the type of lighting used in the "box room". Secondly, the way that these lights appear as white stripes on a black background also gives it a similar appearance to white road stripes on black pavement; and the association with anything Automotive has always been a tie-in to Crime and Criminality. The most obvious example of the use of fluorescent light this way is in the opening scene of "8 Years", where images of pavement at the crime scene were blended into images of fluorescent lights at the police headquarters. Another example of the use of fluorescent lights as a tie-in to crime is in the episode "Joseph", where Mr Robinson enters the elevator during the flashback where he kills Joseph's brother. (There's more such scenes, but I can't remember them off the top of my head as easily as these two.) In spite of all this, I'm not really sure what to make of Lilly's dream. To my knowledge, it's the first time U-shaped fluorescent lamps have appeared in the show. I'm guessing these are the type of lamps that were in the ceiling at the operating room where Lilly cries out "Mom" in the episode "Stalker". She must've been staring at them and were probably the last thing she saw before going unconscious (if she did).

Naj- When Lilly was putting Margo's box away at the end, it clearly shows Joseph's brother Box on the top

Naj, it's just a bit ironic that Lilly awoke after the images of the fluorescent lights, as such lights were prominent in the flashback involving Joseph's brother... and his box was shown during the closing montage. Was this an allusion of sorts?? Or a foreshadowing?? Maybe the "former boyfriend" Lilly may reunite with is Joseph?? Hmm.... I may be one of the few folks who actually likes ADA Thomas, and the fact she's kind of tough, no-nonsense and doesn't seem to be a push over. This works well against Scotty overly-agro-rig-a-ma-role. So, I didn't mine seeing them hook-up. Oh, same here! I think Bonnie Root did the 'tough act' in previous episodes quite well by appearing very professional and demanding without being arrogant. I had no problem thinking she had this "other" side to her...

I really liked this one--gave it an "excellent". I'm sort of on a deadline (ok, so it's really late and I need to get some sleep) so I'm just gonna post this and read everyone's comments tomorrow... and doublepost accordingly. There's lots of things I clicked with during this eppy, but mostly, it was the music and underscore. Wasn't it great? I loved the underscore at the beginning especially, before and during the time Lil was having her flashback. Very haunting, very nice. I liked the characters too. And the fact they really played with my mind. I didn't see it coming--most of the story anyway. It was cool. And I loved the outdoor shots with real Philly in the background (anyway, I THINK it was real Philly). And also... now we know why Scotty was so aggressive these past seasons. HE WASN'T GETTING ANY. Watch him get all calm and puppylike now that his primitive male urges are contained... LOL.

Ok, I couldn't help it and read everyone's right away. I think it's really funny and a bit fascinating that we all felt more or less the same about the episode... (well except Myril, but that's ok too), even to the point of using the same words, namely "COOL". That being said, I agree with everyone else's assessment of specific parts of the episode. Wish I'd been able to make it to the chats. They musta been interesting.

BTW, ColdFan74, as you were wondering last week how "realistic" the show is: In the scene where the two are having some "Pop Rocks" in the motel, they're also drinking a can of Frank's Root Beer, a Philly brand that is pretty hard to find these days, but probably a lot more common in the 80's. Here's an old painted bottle: www.gono.com/museum2003/paintedlbottles/work1a642.jpgAn old "Frank's" soda machine: allaboutphilly.org/franks/image/franks_1_large.jpgA Philly deli in Michigan??? www.joeysfamousphilly.com/Joeys/IndexHome.htmlAnd an old commercial: They really go through a lot to keep this show pretty darned detailed at taking place in Philly. I do recognize when they film outdoor scenes that aren't in Philly; but often, there's street signs or other markers that are very authentic.

That commercial looks familiar with the actors. I don't think we got Franks up here in central Pennsylvania. Neat stuff, boxman.

Well, this episode felt very different from the normal Cold Case style! I think it was that this time the plot really kept you guessing – there were a lot more twists and turns. I was convinced it was going to turn out that Margo was really alive and it was the other girl who was in the coma, so I liked that they double-bluffed and didn’t go for the more predictable ending. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ‘stakeout’ on Cold Case before, plus the fact that they had to chase a suspect for the second time in a couple of weeks, which is another typical cop-show thing that I don’t remember seeing on it before.
There were some great comic lines, mostly from Kat and Vera in the stakeout – I loved her “I’m so stimulated sittin’ next to you” remark. And I laughed through most of the scene with Scotty and the ADA, although I think that was unintentional comedy. I don’t know what happened with the writers, since the dialogue in Cold Case is usually so good, but that scene had every cliché in the book, and it was just plain silly. Plus the fact that the ADA character (sorry, I can’t remember her actual name) is so annoying I have to resist the urge to throw stuff at the TV whenever she appears.
On the other hand, I did finally get to see Lilly’s famous ponytail – well worth the wait! Her scenes with Spencer were really good – the little bit by the graves was clever, and I thought the scene in the hotel room was well done too. It seems strange that there hasn’t been any mention so far of Lilly’s mother dying, so I suppose this scene was kind of a brief glimpse of that, to show Lilly’s still thinking about her.
