A good way to start off the season premier, I lked how they show a recap of what had happened last season. Lilly is really truamatized by this whole thing, even in the interrogation room. I liked how they used flashbacks to see how she views it through her eyes.
I loved how Lilly and Scotty Hugged ( so sweet) and how she was welcomed back. Loved the line Between Kat and Vera very funny.
The case was pretty intense, a lot of twists and turns.

WOW, yes, I TOTALLY LOVED the premiere!!! Seeing Lilly for the first time since we last saw her in the hospital gave me chills! I loved it when Vera said "look who decided to show up to work" So sweet when everyone gave her a hug, ESP. Scotty! And TOTAL OOOMG when Lil and Scotty were in the interrogation room and Lilly started having flashbacks! I was screaming "calm down, calm down!!" at the TV I hated that Stillman saw her go through it too. So sad! The BEST comic scene was with Kat and Vera and the "you ain't my family" part, TOOO funny! The only thing I didn't like was Stillman's attitude towards Lilly! I understand he wants to protect her and make sure she is gonna be ok, but GEEZ! He was being too mean to her! She had good reactions to everything he said, but you could totally tell she was real uneasy about it! The case was so amazing, and super sad! I loved the twists they gave it, especially the end. But I froze when Scotty and Stillman turned the lights off on the dad, major shock! So sad though why he did it. And I also thought the overall music was great too. I am DEFINITLY gonna be watching my tape of this tomorrow! I just hope next week is as good as tonight! ;D

The scene with Vera sitting on the garbage can was funny as well. Did anyone notice how Lilly held Scotty back when Connelly mentioned him being in some sort of trouble. I also like how she thanked him for saving her. He does love and care for her, it's clearly evident

OMG YES, LII2, I totally loved that when Lilly held Scotty back! I always forget to put something, but glad you pointed it out! And yeah seeing Vera on that trash can cracked me up too. OMG and another thing I noticed is that Jefferies is COMPLETELY hair-less! No moustache anymore?!! and @ boxman, LOL, I dunno....

Totally have to commend Veena for taking care to show the last season ending to introduce this season and not ignoring what happend to Lilly. So Lilly has PTSD. I wonder if we will see her visiting a shrink. There were several funny zingers in this one. I'll have to go back and get them to post. I also liked some tough interrogating from Lilly and the final interrogation from Stillman and Valens. The case was a bit difficult for me to follow. I will go back and rewatch it but all in all a great season opener. I didn't mind the all Nirvana sound track as I'm generaly not interested in all one ep artists. I love Nick's new do. And Lilly looks great! Seems they've fixed some things with her detective appearance! more

Eh. I don't know why, but I didn't really enjoy it a whole lot. Yeah it was good, I guess, but there was just something about it that didn't strike me as amazing, not like the eps usually do. You will rarely ever hear me say that an ep was "ok", so this is a big thing. Can't put my finger on what it was... But, I must say the Lilly subplot was awesome. I'm glad they didn't just drop it like in "The Woods". Love how she was welcomed back, and that you could plainly see she was still afraid and vunerable from her shooting. Did not like Stillman's attitude towards her. Basically what CCGirl said about that... Anyways, hope I didn't put a damper on the mood...because this is the season premire, but this is just my opinion.

I would look blink for a split second and I was kinda lost...but I'm gonna be rewatchin it tomorrow too, so I'll be able to listen to the case more instead of looking forward to Lilly and Scotty drama And I also agree with the new looks, Vera, Jefferies, LILLY, whoa! Must be a new make-up person for CC! ;D

Scotty's a little more protective over her, but I agree about Stillman. In a way Lilly did save his life, why turn all cold and harsh. She didn't do anything wrong, or maybe he's also suffering from PTSD also

I thought Stillman was great in this episode also by taking charge of things. I was wondering a bit about his authority, especially with Scotty doing all those "backdoor" things in previous episodes. So it looks like Scotty's not out of the radar...

The ending with Lilly standing in front of the house reminded me of the episode' Bad night' at the end for some reason.

Oh god, I loved this episode! I almost missed it because the local station was acting up, but then 2 mins in it finally came on.
My enthusiasm for this episode might stem from a different source than most of you. They based this episode off of the "West Memphis 3". So many of the things from the episode were based off the real case. The confession of Terry, and his inability to read and write is parallel to the real life person. There are so many other examples too.
Basically I've always supported the "freaks". All throughout the episode I was cheering for Dylan because I knew throughout the episode he didn't do it.
The symbolism and metaphors and quotes were also astounding too. For example when Dylan says "I am the fire breathing dragon of the fairy tales." that was a good line.
There's also a metaphor between the wolf and the dragon. Just before George rides away he mentions that Duke protects him from the dragon. At first I thought this might be a reference to Dylan ("I am the fire breathing dragon") but turns out it was most likely a metaphor for his father. His father a man who lived in his own inner darkness, kept flashlights everywhere. (the torch or flame) and who had a terrible temper.
And excellent quotes galore!
"Evil triumphs when good men do nothing."
"Because I'm God." - Jeffries
Ahh, sorry for my gushing. I give this episode an A+. It's going to be hard to top this episode.

I really really loved this episode. I thought the case was heartbreaking, and I thought it was WONDERFUL how they did not ignore the season finale (*cough* like they've been known to do *cough* haha). I loved the conversations between all the detectives - Kat and Vera especially. I love the dynamic between them Haha "you ain't my family!", love it.
I like how Lilly is struggling with being back, it's only human. If she came back and was totally fine, I think I would have been annoyed.
By the way, I really like Lilly's interrogation in the bathroom. It was different.

Definitely gets my vote for best of the season so far Good episode. Looks like Lilly found her calling again. A few things I noticed. - Lilly didn't ask how Stillman was. You'd think she would as a matter of courtesy. - Although Stillman was insisting on Lilly going to counciling and is concerned about her being back at work he let her carry on. - Stillman initially dismissed the case as closed, telling them not to waste time on it. But he didn't get annoyed when they continued. - You would think the police force would insist on counciling for an officer injured like Lilly was before they came back to work. I realise it has probably been done that way for purposes of the plot. - Again for plot reasons, but how is it that Lilly didn't have a chance to thank Scotty before? Did he not visit her in hospital or at home? It's been weeks since the shooting. And applying the normal "I've seen that guy in other things" method I pegged the dad as the "doer" early on.

Easily my favorite season-opener. Of course, a lot of that has to do with me being an angst-lovely woman. And with Lil/Scotty being my favorite characters, these next few weeks are going to be good to me My only real beef with the episode is in the last few minutes. I didn’t like the end song; it was too “loud” and it took me out of the sadness of the case. Actually it was a rip-off of “Sleepover” – which also ended on Lil watching a kid riding down the street on a bike. Like I said above, they’ve had much better closing montages… And as an afterthought, eee! to Scotty hugging Lil (and her letting him! And hugging back! And thanking him! ) I had to pause the episode and dance around my room a few times, haha. –Hopeless shipper.- I’m glad that after 5 seasons, they’ve reached this comfortable place in their relationship with each other. Can’t wait to see where it goes. (By the way, hi people I usually lurk around for your spoilers but this was worth posting for.)

Hi Tox! THANK YOU! I could not for the life of me remember which episode it was that also ended with Lil watching a kid riding a bike down the street. That's right - it was the sleepover. Thanks! That was bugging me

It seemed to me that it was on track to compare to the first two seasons: Lilly looking at the victim; Lilly being at the center of determining the case; Lilly's tough interrogation scenes, and the banter between detectlives

This was an excellent, excellent episode. Well done and a great start to the fifth season. The case was gut-wrenching and sad, and it wasn't predictable (as in, I didn't know who really killed the boys until the end). There were light hearted moments amongst the detectives (which I always love), and a general family-like bond (centered obviously on Lilly's return) that seems to have been missing for a while. It was nice to seem them be personal towards one another, not detective-bots just drilling through the nuances of the case. I have always thought it odd how they just sort of dropped that kind of interaction amongst the team in the last few seasons, and it didn't seem normal to me that NO ONE ever talked to each other about anything other than work. When you're in a team environment, and you work with people so closely, you ask how they're doing, you are interested in what's happening to them outside of work, you let them know you're there for them if they need anything ... this is obviously enhanced due how the team is dealing with what has happened to Lilly, but I hope it continues throughout the season. I have to say that Kathryn was in top form as she portrayed Lilly teetering on a breakdown, desperately trying to hide the fact she was not fit to be back at work. Too. Darn. Good. This was a much different Lilly, I think, with everyone sort of "worried" about her. Am not sure we've ever seen that (since we never got this sort of thing post-George Marks shooting). I loved the balance between her throwing herself into the case whilst unable to escape everyone kind of keeping any eye on her. Her smiles were nervous, her I'm-going-to-counseling-soon-boss promise seemed to frighten her a bit (as in, you must deal, now, Lil'). Really brilliant stuff. Well done KM and Veena for providing such material for which to deliver a performance like this. I also loved that the episode seemed to refocus on Lilly being the driver of the case - her passion, her devotion, her belief. It was a welcome return to Lilly of seasons gone by. I also thought the flashbacks were much, much shorter so as to continue to have the focus be on Lilly solving the case - which I really liked. It seemed like in the last two seasons, the flashbacks have gotten awfully lengthy whilst the time watching the detectives solve the case has shrunk. It was nice to see a return to the Lilly-driven case solving, and seeing it through her eyes. Have no complaints on this ep. Great start to the season.

Okay, now comes the critical voice This season opener didn't thrill me. The case was somewhat interesting, but got a hunch already in the first flashback of Dylan (before court, press scene), and a very strong feeling that the father was the doer when Lilly and Scotty visited them first. Dunno, intuition maybe, because couldn't really nail it down, but from that point on he was the most possible suspect to me. And sorry, but didn't find it even really interesting to watch how they figured it out and what the motive would be. Freaks had been put in jail, because someone had to be it and they were the best choice, but lovin' somehow traumatised (in his childhood) daddy is the true monster. Nope, this case didn't really got to me. Uhm, yeah, possible that I've watched too many crimes shows, did especially some SVU rewatch sessions lately, so maybe that influenced me. But was the justice system in the US in the midst '90s so fraked up, that not even a beginner or underpayed, bored assigned counseler was able to blow the case? Interrogation of underaged without laywer or parents, just one cop and a teenager in one room ... darn sure something to seed doubts with. Just one ear-witness, a teenager doll saying that 2 teenagers bragged with the killing? Any evidence besides that the boys were found at the pool, where the 2 used to lurk? Oh dear - had they any lawyer at all? But some freak teenager confesses and no more questions are asked ... sad thing. The summary at the beginning, hm, well, think they could have let that out. The flashbacks of Lilly would have been IMO more interesting without giving that summary: who watched the season's final would have remembered anyway how it ended, and who didn't, might have known at the end the basics nevertheless, or gotten more curious, what's going on. I missed a word about Lilly's mom. But maybe they didn't want to put too much into the first episode (hope). Though it wouldn't be unplausible if a person focuses on one traumata and kinda surpresses another bad moment. On the other hand a little time has gone by, so guess we missed the funeral and all. Just too bad if Ellen would vanish now kinda like Chris did, never heard of again ... Lilly felt unsure in the office, vulnerable where she might have felt safe before, quite a believable effect of the event. Think they did a good job with this at least. But as others I didn't quite get the harsh reaction of Stillman. Okay, he is right, she should do counseling (finally), and probably he has to push her very hard to do it now. But the tone didn't fit to his character. Wonder, if they pick up on Kat's story. I mean, it could be interesting, she had been shot too, her partner took the guy down, so something the 2 women of the team have in common now. Hey, and did you notice, that Kat huged Lilly too ...
