Scotty was waiting for Lilly to come home. Lilly had gone to the hospital to get more chemo, asking him not to come with her. Scotty told her he wanted to be with her, but Lilly begged him to let her go alone.
Lilly didn’t want Scotty to see her in the state she usually was with the chemo. It would kill Scotty to see Lilly like that. Slowly the front door opened, making Scotty turn. Lilly stood there, barley able to walk. “Hey, you’re back.” Scotty whispered. “How was it?” “Good. I’m a little tired though.” “Come sit here.” Scotty patted the spot next to him. Lilly slowly walked over and plonked herself down. Scotty cuddled into her, happy she was still with him. “Is it workin’?” he asked. “Yeah, it hasn’t spread.” “That’s good.” Scotty mumbled, placing small kisses to her neck. “So I’m guessing this means, that we can’t do any crazy things in the next few days. Lilly giggled, loving the way he was making her feel safe and better. “Just for a couple of days.” “Oh, that’s okay.” “Though of anything else yet?” Lilly asked eager to see what their next date would be like. “Well nothing to crazy, but maybe a circus or horse riding. But, I have a backup plan. If you’re too weak, I take you shopping.” “Wow Valens, you’re getting good.” “At what?” “Making me feel special, and coming up with amazing dates.” “Anything for my girl.” Scotty whispered, pulling her closer. “I think I’d like to do horse riding, then a circus on that date after that.”
Lilly lay awake that night in Scotty’s arms, thinking of her condition. Lilly had lied to Scotty. They weren’t sure, but the doctors told Lilly they think the cancer might be spreading. Of course they weren’t positive, but she would need to come in next week for another check-up to make sure. Lilly was scared as hell. She thought she was getting better, but this news just bought her self-esteem down even lower.
Lilly couldn’t tell Scotty. Millions of things were running through her head. Would he leave her? Would he want another woman? Would he push her away? Or would he stay and help her fight it? Lilly lifted her head to look at Scotty’s. He was peacefully sleeping, making her feel guilty.
Lilly quietly lifted herself from the bed, going into the bathroom. She looked into the mirror, seeing her hair all different lengths. Her fringe had now become so short that she had to rearrange it as bangs, although it was very short and string-like. The length of her hair had now risen up just above her shoulders. Lilly wanted her hair to grow back. Her hair was the one thing that she loved to experiment with, giving it different styles. However now, she barley had anything left.
Lilly felt the urge to shave all her hair off, wanting it to just be out of the way. Lilly sighed, walking into the bedroom, getting into bed and falling back to sleep. ****************************************************************************** Just to let everyone know, in Australia we class bangs as what Lilly had after she had been shot. They way the fringe covered her whole forehead. We call a fringe, anything that is shorter than your normal length and across your forehead or at the side, like the style Lilly had in every other season of Cold Case. So in my story she has bangs from the start of the 5th season, except a lot shorter, and very thin. Hope that helps you understand. Short too, sorry. ****************************************************************************

Lilly skipped the delicious breakfast Scotty had prepared for her, feeling her appetite being lost when more of her hair fell out.
Scotty was driving her to work, an odd vibe in the car. “So when’s you’re next treatment?” Scotty asked when stopping at a traffic light. “I have to go back next week, just to make sure everything is going right.” “How’re you feeling?” Scotty asked. “Alright, tired of course.” “Feel good enough to go out tonight?” “No.” Lilly whispered, resting her against her window. “You don’t look alright Lil.” “I’m fine.” “Lil...come on.” Scotty whispered, reaching over and rubbing her shoulder.
Lilly felt her guard falling down. Should I tell him? She thought. She looked over at him, seeing him staring at the road. How could she not tell him without feeling unworthy of his love? Scotty looked over at her, making her heart warm. “I’m just scared.” Lilly whispered. “No need baby. You’re strong; you know you’ll make it through.” “Yeah.” Lilly whispered, crying inside. ******************* When arriving at work, Lilly went straight to the ladies room, throwing up as she thought of her form. After regaining her strength, she walked back out and got to work.
Lilly and Scotty had to interview a woman who was a possible suspect in her ex-boyfriends murder. Lilly walked into the interrogation room, followed by Scotty. “Mrs Montero.” Lilly said, taking a seat opposite her suspect. “We here you weren’t on good grounds with your boyfriend when he was murdered.” “When did you hear that?” Mrs Montero asked. “Not that long ago. See we’re thinking you found out your boyfriend was banging some chick he worked with. It hurt you, so the only way you would feel better was to kill him.” “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Mrs Montero whispered, bowing her head. “Cut the crap Gail, we know you met with him before he was murdered, we have a witness.” Scotty yelled, leaning across the table. “Look okay, I saw him, but all we did was talk.” “What about?” Lilly asked. “I told him I knew he was cheating, so we talked it through and decided to end it on good terms.” “That ain’t the truth.” Lilly shouted. “Tell us what really happened.” “I’m telling you the truth.” Gail whispered, looking up innocently. “Fine, I really don’t give a crap anymore.” Lilly screeched, storming out of the interrogation room. Scotty stood solid, shocked by his partners actions. “I’m telling the truth detective.” Gail whispered. “Did anything weird happen before you went your separate ways?” “Well, he left because he got a call. He said it was urgent, something like his friend was in trouble.” “In trouble? Did he say who?” Scotty asked, catching on. “No, just that. But he did say that he needed to stop his friend from doing something stupid.” “Thanks Gail, we’ll call you if we hear anything.”
With that, Scotty rushed out of the interrogation room, looking around for Lilly. He went downstairs to the outside world, finding Lilly standing outside. Scotty crept up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. Lilly jumped, pushing him away. “What the hell are you doing?” Lilly yelled. “Keep it down. I just wanted to see how you are.” “Well don’t hug me in front of everyone.” “Why not?” he asked, feeling hurt. “I don’t want anyone seeing us together.” “Of course you don’t.” There was a big pause before Scotty suddenly broke the ice. “What was that all about?” “I don’t know. I just didn’t feel good.” “You can’t just loose it in an interrogation Lil.” “I know, I know. It’s just...it gets to me sometimes.” “Well, try to ignore it.” Scotty mumbled. “It ain’t that easy Scotty.” “Just try your best, you don’t want boss on your back.” Scotty whispered. “Speaking of boss, we better go inform him of the new lead.” “What lead?” “When you left, Gail told me that Rupert was going to see a friend that was about to do something stupid.” Scotty said clearly, raising one eyebrow. “Joey.” Lilly whispered, catching on. “Got it in one.” *****************************************************************************

*****************************************************************************
Lilly was in a cheerful mood. She had just come back from her check up at the hospital. Luckily none of the cancer spread. She wanted to do something special for Scotty. She hadn’t taken him up on the horse riding date yet, so she was thinking of asking him if they could to do it tomorrow, which was Sunday.
Lilly slowly walked to the door of Scotty’s front door. She knocked lightly. Scotty opened the door, smiling as he saw Lilly. “Hey.” Scotty whispered, beaming. “Thought I would take you up on that offer for going horse riding.” “Ah, I’m guessing that the check up went well.”
Lilly draped her hands around Scotty’s neck leaning in for a kiss. “U huh.” She lent in again, kissing him. Scotty pulled her in, closing the door behind him. He stumbled onto the couch, Lilly falling with him. Lilly stopped him, putting her hands on his chest and pushing forward. “Tomorrow?” “Sure.” Scotty murmured, reaching down to kiss her again. ** The next morning had been intense. Lilly rushed around Scotty’s room, searching for the spare clothes that were in his drawers. She nearly gave up until she came across a particular fancy tank top and jeans that she really enjoyed wearing. She added a small jacket that she thought would keep her warm just in case.
Scotty made breakfast while she got ready. Once they had eaten breakfast Lilly asked Scotty how she looked. “Great!” “Yeah?” Lilly asked. “Do you think it’s too plain?” “Nope, just perfect.” Lilly had left her hair although it was short; her fringe had been pushed back into a head band, barley staying back because of the short length. Lilly knew her hair looked terrible, but she didn’t want it to ruin her day.
After spraying lots of hairspray on her fringe, making it stay, Lilly collected her things, following Scotty out the door. Once arriving at the stable, Lilly walked around holding onto Scotty’s hand. There were so many beautiful horses. Lilly loved the feeling of being normal. “Have they chosen a horse for us?” Lilly asked. “No, you can pick one.” Lilly grew excited seeing she had her eye set on a black horse. The horse was tall, silky and very friendly. It obviously liked Lilly. “Have you ever ridden a horse Lilly?” One owner asked, startling Lilly. “No.” “Have you Scotty?” The owner asked. “Yes, I can help her just in case.” “I never knew you ride horses.” Lilly whispered. “I used to back at West, just for some fun.”
Once the owners had bought the horse out to the field Lilly was helped onto the horse, followed by Scotty.
Scotty wrapped his arms around Lilly, making sure she as secured. Lilly looked down to see Scotty pull on straps. She didn’t know how to use any equipment, so she leant back in Scotty’s arms. Lilly felt the breeze hitting her. The coldness against her arms gave her goose bumps. She felt like she had so much life in her. She wasn’t ready to die. She still had the rest of her life ahead. She wanted a husband, children, a dog and a white picket fence. She wanted a normal life. Lilly didn’t want to die without marrying someone.
Lilly thought about marrying Scotty while the horse galloped through the field. Would he marry her? Would he even think twice about it? She longed to be loved by someone like him, but she didn’t know if it would ever occur.
Lilly rest her head on Scotty’s shoulder, feeling pain hit her head. She winced clutching her head. The life in her faded as the pain grew. “You alright?” Scotty yelled. Lilly didn’t answer. She felt her arms shake. Lily slowly slipped from Scotty’s arms. Luckily Scotty caught her, slowing the horse down. “HELP! “ Scotty yelled, laying Lilly on the grass. The owner came running down to them. “HELP!” Scotty called again, fearing for his girlfriend’s health. ****************************************************

**************************************************** Scotty sat in the waiting room, wanting to see his partner. He was dreading seeing her, but also dying to comfort her. The rest of the team surrounded him, making him want to be alone. He had been sitting there for at least 3 hours, waiting while the doctors stabilized Lilly and completed tests. The first thought that ran through his head was ‘The cancer spread’ He was hoping not but that seemed liked the obvious answer.
After a few more minutes of thinking, a doctor came emerged from Lilly’s room. “Is anyone here family?” “Uh...no but I’m her boyfriend.” Scotty whispered, standing up. The team all turned to Scotty, shocked by his words. Scotty ignored it, wanting to hurry up so he could see her. “The cancer has spread. But thankfully again, we got it early. This time we will be doing a lot more treatment to keep it from spreading and of course to get rid of it.” “Is she going to die?” Scotty asked, feeling tears spring to his eyes. “There is a chance; she will loose all her hair. But we are hoping the treatment will help to keep her going.” “Can I see her?” “Yes, just be quiet, she’s still sleeping and very weak.”
Scotty walked to the door, slowly opening it. He entered, seeing Lilly laying there lifeless. He slowly walked over to the bed, pulling over a chair to sit on. He reached for her hand, stopping as her eyes twitched. “Scotty?” “Yeah baby, I’m here.” “What happened?” Lilly asked, looking around the room. “You passed out.” Scotty whispered, reaching for her hand again and stroking it. “Lil...I have some bad news.” “What?” She asked weakly. “The cancer spread. But they said that the treatment is going to help you stay alive. ” “It spread.” Lilly whimpered. “Don’t worry. You’ll make it through.” “I’m gonna loose all my hair.” Lilly sobbed, closing her eyes as the tears fell. “Hair doesn’t matter Lil. You’re still gorgeous.” “Not if I have no hair left. Do you know how much I want to keep my hair? I already feel crap enough with it this short. I don’t want to look lifeless or dead. I want to be happy and I want my hair.” “Lil, look...Nothing is going to change how I feel about you. You’re still my girl. I need you to be strong.” Scotty whispered running his hand over her cheek. “I WANT MY HAIR!” Lilly screamed. “Baby, shh...It’s okay, you don’t need hair.” Scotty soothed. “I do. Or people are going to look at me and know I had cancer. I don’t want people knowing that. I want to be normal.”
Before Scotty could answer, Lilly burst into intense cries. Scotty lowered himself onto the bed next to her, holding her and whispering sweet words of comfort as she cried in his arms.
Lilly cried herself to sleep, making Scotty feel guilty for telling her. His thoughts were yet again interrupted when the rest of the team entered the room. “How is she?” Stillman asked. “She doesn’t want to loose her hair.” “She’s putting her hair ahead of her life. God, that girls got some serious issues.” Kat mumbled, sitting down. “She just wants to be normal.” “So uh, since when were you her boyfriend?” Nick asked suspiciously. “Been together for a couple of weeks.” “How come you didn’t tell us?” Kat asked feeling left out. “We wanted to keep it quiet. But I guess it’s out now.” “Well just for the record, I think you two deserve each other.” Will said smiling. **************************************************************************

**************************************************************************
The sound of Scotty’s voice awoke Lilly from her peaceful dream. She opened her eyes to see him looking at her. “Hey.” He whispered, stroking her cheek. “Hi. What time is it?” “It’s the morning.” “Can I go home?” Lilly asked, desperate to get out of the hospital. “Not yet.” “I wanna go home.” Lilly pouted, resting into Scotty’s chest. “When the doctors say you can go, then I’ll take you home.” “It’s not like I’m dying right now.” “Yeah, I know.” Scotty whispered, soothing Lilly the best he could.
Lilly had been resting on Scotty’s chest for an hour, sleep not able to find her. Suddenly a doctor walked through the door. “Mrs Valens?” he asked. “Yes.” Scotty gazed at her as she answered. She was Rush, not Valens. “I’m Doctor Ramsay. How are you feeling? “Better than before.” “That’s a good sign.” He mumbled, righting down notes on a sheet of paper. “Can I go home?” Lilly asked. “Well, you should be able to leave once I am done with you.” Lilly sighed, leaning back into Scotty. ***** When Lilly was allowed to leave, Scotty drove her back to her house.
Lilly was scared. She never thought her life would turn out this way. She wanted to have a happily ever after and not happily never after. Lilly felt herself being lifted out of the car. Scotty carried her inside, resting her down the couch. “Stay here, I’ll make you some lunch.” He whispered. While Scotty was cooking Lilly rested thinking of the past events. She didn’t want to end her life alone.
She had Scotty, but would it last? Lilly wanted to fight the cancer. She needed to stay strong. She couldn’t just let the cancer run her life. Cancer would NOT get in the way. She had, had worse things happen to her than not being able to as active anymore. She wanted marriage. She wanted love. Lilly thought about her and Scotty. Would he want to marry her? Would he love her no matter what happened? Lilly decided it was time to ask him. She lifted herself up, off the couch and strolled into the kitchen. Scotty turned hearing her footsteps. “I thought I told you to rest.” “I need to talk to you.” “Oh, what’s wrong?” Scotty asked nervously. “Would you marry me if I only had a short time left?” The words struck Scotty like a ton of bricks. It put him on the spot. He hadn’t thought about marriage since Elisa. “I guess.” “Scotty I need to know. Would you marry me if I didn’t have much time left?”
Scotty looked into Lilly’s eyes. Seeing the sadness made him realise that he wanted her for the rest of his life. He didn’t want to see her die, he needed her. “Yeah.” Lilly felt a cool liquid run down her face. She realised she was crying. She ran into Scotty’s arms, crying her heart out. “I don’t want to die Scotty.” Scotty started to cry too. “You’re strong babe, everything’s gonna be okay, I promise.” “The treatment isn’t working.” Lilly sobbed, wanting to keep strong. “It will, you’re gonna be okay.” Scotty dropped to the floor, pulling Lilly with down. They both cried, not wanting to loose each other. *************************************************************************

************************************************************************* It had been two more months since Lilly had found out the cancer had spread. Lilly had now lost all her hair, and wore a bandana. Scotty had stuck by her side not wanting to loose her. The treatment was working and she only had 1 more left to complete. Lilly knew her hair would grow back which made her feel a lot more confident in public. Lilly was lying on the couch waiting for Scotty to return from work. She was granted time off with her condition. Lilly turned when she felt a pair of hands rub her shoulders. “You’re home.” Lilly whispered, turning and leaning over the back of the couch to give Scotty a kiss. “Yep, how’re you feeling?” “Pretty good actually.” Lilly mumbled, sitting back down on the couch. Scotty came over to the spot next to her, taking of his shoes, jacket, and shirt. He was left in a very tight, black tank top. Scotty lent over pulling Lilly in for a deep kiss. Lilly wrapped her arms around his neck, whilst Scotty pulled her into his lap. After a few minutes of deep kissing Lilly pulled away. “I’m hungry.” She pouted, hearing her stomach growl. “I’ll make you something, and then we can have dessert.” That night as they lay in bed Lilly looked over at Scotty. She didn’t know what was keeping him around, but she was sure glad that he was still with her. “Scotty?” She whispered. “Mmmmm.” “Remember when you said you would marry me if I didn’t have much time left?” “Mmhmm.” “Would you marry me now?” Lilly asked, feeling ready to take the next step. Scotty’s eyes flew open. “But you’re gonna be fine.” “I know...I’m just saying...Would you if I asked you too?” Scotty rolled over, crawling down to Lilly’s legs. He slowly kissed each foot up and down, taking in her red toenails which she had painted when they went out for dinner last week. He kissed her body, all the way up to her eyes. “Without doubt.” “You would?” Lilly asked, feeling her heat race. “Lil, I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I would love to marry you!” Before Lilly could answer, Scotty jumped off the bed and ran out of the room. At first Lilly thought he was freaking out, but when he returned - standing in the door way with a cocky grin - Lilly knew he wanted it as much as she did. Scotty walked over to the bed, kneeling down as she stood up. He pulled out a black velvet box and slowly opened it. Lilly watched in awe as he revealed a huge diamond ring. Lilly realised that it had to have cost over $5,000 with all the diamonds placed in it. In the middle was a huge diamond ring surrounded by small diamonds that sparkled as bright as the sun. “Lilly Rush, will you marry me?” “Yes.” Lilly whispered, falling down to her knees and placing a soft kiss to Scotty’s lips. As he slipped the ring onto her finger Lilly loved the feeling of the weight that was now placed on her finger. “I’m gonna be Lilly Valens.” Scotty chuckled taking her into his arms, slowly spinning her around. Lilly rest her face on his shoulder as the two danced. They danced until they felt their bodies go limp. They collapsed onto the bed, falling into a deep sleep knowing the love they shared would never fade. THE END!! Please Review!! Tell me if I ended it well, I’m really bad at ending storied
