Part I - The night before the big Rush/Valens Wedding
Remind Vera not to be late in picking me up tomorrow… Check Reminds Scotty to be on his best Behavior… Check Make sure that Finn doesn’t drop the rings… Check Remind Mom to be on her best Behavior… Check, Check, Check
It was her last night being single, but yet Scotty was out much later than expected. His bachelor party had ended about six hours ago, and he still didn’t answer his cell. Perhaps he went back to his brother Mike’s house to stay for the night. Lilly wasn’t taking any chances, she was now six months pregnant, and craving a large pepperoni and onion pizza.
Dialing Jefferies number he immediately picked up, “Will is Scotty there?” she asked. “I haven’t seen him, since he left the party. He was alone Lil, nobody was with him.” This didn’t help her much, “ can you do be a favor, get me a pizza,” as she heard Jefferies groaning loudly from over the phone. Scotty wasn’t with any women but with Stillman on his boat, although got seasick, he wanted to speak to someone.
“You should be home with Lil, she’s pregnant. “. Scotty knew he should but opted not to, “I’m not so sure that I even want to marry her, or have a kid.”
Stillman chuckled,” It’s too late to undo anything Scotty.” “I might just call it off, boss. I’m not cut out for this, besides Lil’s dad practically hates me.”
However Scotty didn’t, as he went back to Lilly’s apartment; seeing two blue eyes looking straight at him. She had her own theories to where he was, “Was having a talk with the boss, I have a note,” throwing it down on the bed.
As she opened it up, it read; Scotty was with me- JS.
Lilly shook her head, “That’s cute, why go through all this trouble to get him to write this?”
“You don’t believe me; probably think I’m with another girl. You have a right to think that, just this time I’ve got some proof and evidence that I wasn’t,” as he bent down to capture her lips, “Just think tomorrow night we will be a married couple.”
She smiled, “Stay with me tonight?” which had him shaking his head no, “So where are you going to stay, with Jefferies or the boss?” Scotty’s face warmed, as he got into bed, “Was thinking to sleep with someone with beautiful blue eyes, “kissing her cheek, “That will be my bride tomorrow.”
His hand slid onto her stomach, feeling yet another kick... What the two didn’t know was that their wedding day might not turn out to be the happiest for a few reasons.
tbc. stay tuned for the wedding day could be one the could be either filled with happiness or one that neither of the two would want to remember

By 5am, Lilly was already up while she tried to get all the last minute things to done, before the wedding. This meant cleaning up the kitchen, doing a tiny load of laundry and making sure that her mother knew where the catering hall exactly was.
Her hand rested against her stomach, but the two had found out the sex; but had the doctor tell her father. That was during the wedding, he would announce it, making it special for the two of them. For right now, Lilly felt it kicking softly. She still was very amazed by this, yet when she went downstairs her eyes widened. Everything was clean, plus Scotty had already done the laundry; as it sat neatly folding in the laundry basket. This was incredible, but a very good thing. Lilly didn’t have the energy to clean up the whole apartment, as she went to take out some orange juice, she heard someone knocking at the front door. Upon opening it, Kat stood there, “Hey sorry it’s a bit early.”
“It’s alright, Scotty’s over with the boss, think Stillman’s give him a lecture. “
The two women each smiled at one another, “Scotty could use a lecture, between him becoming both a husband and a father.” Lilly shook her head, before heading upstairs as Kat followed, “So what do you want done?”
She was caught in between having it up or down, “Can you curl the edges, I want to leave it down,” seeing her nodding, “I just want to wear it curly, something different you know?”
While Kat was styling her hair before applying some make up onto Lilly’s face, Scotty was over at Stillman’s feeling extremely nervous. It had gotten so bad, that he had already thrown up six times. Scotty’s nerves were all over the place, “I think I know how Lil’s been feeling.”
“Except that Lil didn’t have any morning sickness, “which had the younger man glaring at him, “Just kidding.”
Stillman knew how to use his sense of humor, but yet could symphonized what Scotty was feeling, “ I remember being nervous also, yet your doing well, “ patting him on the back.
As the time grew closer, Lilly rode with Jefferies whom kept on glancing over at her. She was extremely beautiful in her light ivory dress, but perhaps it was because she was pregnant that made her look even more radiant than before, “How is the little one doing?”
“Kicking, think it senses that I’m nervous, “as her hand gently caressed her stomach. He smiled softly, knowing that Lilly already had made a beautiful bride,” You look beautiful Lil,” Jefferies said after parking the car. He then got up before opening up the door, as Lilly got out. Right away Paul had met her there, he could get over just how beautiful she was also, “ All grown up now Lilly, you looked beautiful,” his eyes looking at her face as the two stood there letting the photographer take several pictures.
In the middle of it, the baby must have kicked hard; causing him to also place his hand on her stomach, “I have another thing to look forward to; my future grandchild.”
His smile had faded once he saw Ellen Rush, walking towards him. Lilly gently touched her father’s arm,’ No bickering dad.”
However when Paul and Ellen looked at one another, he felt much differently about her than before, “You still look beautiful, after all these years.”
For once Ellen, let him compliment her without a putdown, before she looked at her daughter, “Look you good Lilly,” taking her hand, “Better than I did when I first got married.”
Together they stood there, as the photographer took several pictures of them, before going inside. Once there, Lilly felt more butterflies in her stomach. She was a little too nervous, but that was to be expected, as Maggie now stood there,” You look like Lilly,” handing the bouquet. She smiled before Finn had joined them also for a picture.
Dispute Christina being in jail she had been released, but able to attend the wedding. She too stood next to her older sister, which was proud moment for Paul; seeing all of his kids together. Yes Christina was his daughter as well.
Then it was just him, Lilly, Ellen and Christina posing together for several pictures. For a moment, Lilly felt like she was reconnected with her family again. Having both her parents and sister there alongside her, gave a feeling of happiness.
When everyone else left, Lilly felt her nerves once again rising, “You ready to walk me down, Dad?” she asked? Paul smiled before she put her arm into his. Together they heard the sound of music, as the doors now opened.
From down the aisle, Scotty’s mouth practically dropped open; upon seeing Lilly looking so radiantly yet gorgeous. He felt his stomach turning, before racing out to throw up again. Both Paul and Lilly each exchanged looks, “He’s one nervous husband to be.”
“I can see that, I wonder how he’s going to react when you give birth. For we knew is he might even miss the birth.”
Lilly shot him a look, “ I warned you no comments like that, “ seeing Scotty returning as the two now started to once again walk down the aisle, “ Hope he used some mouthwash before he kisses you,” she heard her father commenting again. Halfway down, Lilly put her other arm into Stillman, which now result in two people giving her away. Vera chuckled softy, “That’s a first, with both the boss and her dad,” as Kat stepped on his foot, “Shh!”
At the altar, Paul placed his daughter’s hand into Scotty’s before standing aside. He didn’t still like his new son in- law, but still this was Lilly’s day. However standing next to him, was his ex. While the vows were being exchanged the two were muttering to themselves, before they were quiet.
“Do you Lilly Marie Rush, take this man to be your husband?”, as Lilly paused before answering, “I do,” as the man turned towards Scotty, “Do you Scott Michael Valens; take this woman to be your wife?” That’s when he heard his new father in-law murmuring something, but chose to ignore him, “I do?”
As Finn now stepped forward with their rings, Lilly had noticed that her husband’s was missing, “Finn where is it?” “I don’t know Lil,” before she snatched it out of his pocket, “Nice try.”
Holding Scotty’s wedding band, Lilly looked up at him, “Do you always promise to be there for me, as both husband and partner. To continue to be my best friend, to protect and love me?”, as Scotty nodded, “I do promise Lilly, to be there for you.”
As she slid his wedding ring onto his finger, he then held up her wedding band, “I’ve always loved you, I know that sometimes I had failed as friend, now I know that I can be a better husband,” glancing at her stomach, “and a good dad, “still ignoring Paul’s comments, “I love you Lilly as both your partner and husband,” very slowly he slid the ring onto her finger.
When given the signal to kiss, he leaned forward capturing her lips as now husband and wife. The kiss was passionate, but their hand now went to her stomach; as Scotty bend down to kiss it, “I love you too.” Just then the two walked back up the aisle as everyone clapped.
Once the guests sat down at their tables, Paul had realized that Ellen was also sitting there; he had now his wife and ex-wife on either side of him.
Lilly was having a good time speaking Scotty’s brother; Mike as she met her new niece and nephew; Emilio and Marisol.
For the most part things were good, but yet when the dinner was served; she still wasn’t eating. Scotty now wrapped his arms around her,” C’mon beautiful you need to eat, the baby’s getting hungry.” As she was led back to their table, he touched her hand, “I wasn’t actually throwing up, and I forgot something.”
“I know that, it’s just my dad had to ruin our vows,” which had also Scotty in agreement, “Don’t worry about it Lil, he hates me. Not going to stop me from loving you?”
Paul and Ellen were arguing even more now, “It’s a good thing I left, you drove me insane.” Ellen frowned, “Sure I did, who cares it was 1976, Paul. Get over it already!”
“I can’t when I have you sitting next to me, can’t you ever be nice. It’s our daughter’s wedding day, not yours”
She sighed before splashing some water onto her ex-husband. At that point he got up, and grabbed her hand, as Lilly walked on over,” Enough you two, you want to ruin my wedding do it someplace else. Can you ever be happy for once Mom, this isn’t about what happened between you and dad long ago!”
The two shot each other a cold look, before Celeste took her husband’s hand, as the two went outside to have a talk.
Soon after both Lilly and Scotty were called to the dance floor, for their first dance. Their wedding song; I shall believe: By Sheryl Crow.
Although he didn’t really like the song, Lilly loved it. As everyone watching the beautiful pregnant bride dancing wit
h her husband, Scotty whispered something in Spanish into her ear. Lilly smiled, “Seven years as partners, I never thought we’d be married, “which had him smiling as well, “I love you Scotty.” “I love you too Lil, “touching her face, “You will always be my bride forever.”
When the song had faded, Lilly now danced with her father. It made her cry softly, to be able to dance with him, as Paul gently wiped her tears away, “Remember that place where I first taught you how to dance?” “I do,” seeing him smiling at her, “Your little feet were on top of mine, and I can’t believe what a beautiful young woman that you turned into.”
Lilly still was crying softly, while they continued dancing together. She was finally happy that he was back in her life, before the two finally embraced. A moment that made Paul’s dream come true; to be able to dance with his daughter at her wedding.
With Scotty now standing there, he looked at him, “ Take care of my little girl, don’t ever break her heart .”
“ I won’t,” holding out his hand as the two shook hands before embracing. Lilly was beaming knowing that her father finally was coming around to accepting Scotty. Behind her she heard something, as Stillman stood, “May I have this dance Lilly?”
Taking his hand, he let her out onto the dance floor Paul was already out there dancing with Celeste, while Christina hugged Scotty,” Sorry, I’m glad you are with Lil.”
Putting aside their past, the two danced but not once did Scotty feel anything for Christina. To him she was now is sister in-law, and nothing else. This didn’t bother Lilly, she wanted her husband to feel welcomed in her family.
Ten minutes later after dancing with her father in-law, she had found herself dancing with Jefferies. She loved her squad as if they were her second family, “ Look,” hearing Will speaking. Turning to the right, Lilly saw both her mother and father dancing together,” That’s a first!” Nevertheless Paul twirled Ellen around, “ It feels like our wedding day, you still have that same smile.”
“ I haven’t danced in a long time, you were the only one that I had danced with, “said Ellen, “ I missed it, always made me feel good to dance with you.”
He also agreed, as Ellen held onto him, feeling very safe and content with him. Paul was extremely proud of his ex-wife, “ I’m proud of you, for quitting drinking,” kissing her cheek. Her eyes twinkled slightly, “ You are still a handsome guy, “ touching his face.
That moment together was probably the only happy as far as Ellen Rush was concerned, as soon as she saw Paul dancing with Celeste, seeing just how much he loved her; it made her angry. She wanted to be loved, but not once did she start to drink. No Ellen was going to pull through this without getting herself drunk.
As far as the Rush sisters were concerned, both Christina and Lilly had gotten into a fight, one that needed to be broken up fast. Scotty had pulled his wife away, “ Enough can’t you two not bicker?” “Tell her that!”
He shook his head, before seeing both Ellen and Paul now in the middle of a bad fight. It had gotten so bad that there was glass on the floor as her father flung at chair across the room.
Lilly was embarrass and angry that her parents were both crashing her wedding, however with now Scotty trying to stop, it only made the situation worse. Much to the point that she heard her father yelling at her husband loudly, before her father in-law had joined in.
Just by standing there she was fuming of angry before running outside, before a few tears had managed to escape. Today was supposed to be a perfect one but it wasn’t, as Lilly felt her baby stirring inside.

Part II
Inside of the catering hall, the place was a half-wreck as Lilly walked in. Her eyes were glistening with tears, knowing that her wedding day had been ruined. She never had wanted to believe that these things could happen, but now it did. Once a happy bride, now turned to a very sad one, “I hope you are all happy,” her voice choking with tears, before walking back outside.
Scotty knew that his wife had deserved better, before raising his voice at both Ellen and Paul, “Haven’t you two learned, your marriage ended in 1976. That’s a long time ago; Lil doesn’t need this on her own wedding day. Have your spat someplace else, but let her enjoy this day, you’re also forgetting that she’s six months pregnant too.”
The two of them knew that they had gone too far, as Scotty went outside. Sitting in the gardens, he heard the sniffling of a crying bride; his crying bride. His heart ached terribly, to see Lilly so upset like that, “I’m sorry Lil, I wanted it to be special,” pulling her closer to him. “It’s not your fault Scotty; maybe this shouldn’t have happened in the first place; us getting married?”
He shook his head, “No this was supposed to happen; us falling in love. Your mother clearly has issues, but she’s still my mother in-law,” dreading that Ellen Rush was just that; but being that she wasn’t that close to Lilly in the first place, he knew wasn’t going to be seeing her that much anyhow.
Her hand now caressing her stomach, “Some wedding day, huh?” “We still have each other Lil, you are my wife. I’m not going to leave you over what happened today, it doesn’t work like that. In a few months, our baby will be born; got that to look forward too.”
Lilly nodded softly, “Yeah, but the problem is that my father knows what it is. I don’t feel like speaking to him, not after this.”
When Scotty had gone back inside, Paul stepped outside; seeing his daughter still sitting on a bench. Taking a seat, he glanced over, “ I’m sorry Lilly, your mother can never be happy. I lost my temper and it was wrong. “ seeing that she was still softly crying, “ Come back inside,” pushing a tendril of hair away from her face, “ Whatever happened it’s over, and your mother knows that.”
As Lilly took her father’s hand, the two walked back in together; as everyone clapped. She saw that the mess had been cleaned up, but more importantly everyone was still there. Her squad, her in-laws, and Scotty; all the people that mattered most to her; including her mother whom was sitting quietly at the table; holding a glass of water in her hand.
Just then Vera grabbed the microphone as he stood there, “ Ladies and Gentleman, presenting the beautiful, Detective Lilly Rush or is it Valens now?”, he grinned.
Everyone laughed including Lilly, as Vera continued speaking,” I never thought I see the day that both Rush and Valens would be together. He picked actually a good woman, not like some of the women that he had dated.” Just then he turned it over to Christina, “ I just want to say that I love you Lil, not because that you are my sister but also my best friend. We had many good and bad times together, but all in all, you are the best sister that anyone could have.”
After both Jefferies, Kat and Stillman had spoken; Paul now stood there, “ It seemed like yesterday that my little girl was born, seeing how tiny she was; I never forgot that moment. Although I never had gotten a chance to see you grow up Lilly, I never stopped loving you. Last month both you and Scotty had found out what baby will be, and told me to announced it here.”
Somehow he pretended to search for the piece of paper in his pockets, “ I must of lost it,” causing everyone to laugh, “ There it is,” as he slowly opened it, “ You really want to know Lilly?”
“It’s a boy,” he said with a smile as both Scotty and Vera extremely happy, “ Oh wait I read the wrong thing, it’s actually a girl.” Scotty still was happy, as he bent down; kissing her stomach,” She’s going to be just as beautiful as you.”
It was now his turn, to speak but just by getting up there, he grinned at his pregnant wife, “ A girl huh, are you sure about that granddad?” he teased. When Lilly got there, she snatched it away from her husband, “ I’m glad that everyone came, to celebrate our wedding,” her hand touched her stomach,” and the impending birth of our baby daughter.”
He also placed his hand on her stomach,” She’s kicking Lil, our daughter.” “ Actually she’s just stirring Scotty, big difference; along with having the hiccups.”
The crowd laughed, before Lilly glanced over at her mother, “ I remember mom telling me about when she married dad. How she was pregnant with me at the time, funny how I’m also pregnant. “
Upon getting off the stage, Lilly took a seat next to Ellen, “ Mom are you alright?”
‘ Yeah, Yeah I’m fine Lilly,” came her usual response. She knew that she wasn’t fine,” I’m glad that you came, I thought you’d be excited over having a granddaughter.”
Lilly was disappointed in her mother, but instead left her there all alone. She couldn’t change what her mother was feeling.

Shortly after the two arrived back at their apartment, Scotty carried his pregnant bride over the threshold, “Getting a bit heavy there Lil.”
“I wouldn’t be if you didn’t get me pregnant, before we had gotten married,” she replied before walking upstairs. He yawned slightly while setting up coffee maker, so that it would brew tomorrow morning. By the time Scotty had gotten upstairs, he found Lilly still in her wedding dress; fast asleep on the bed. Talk about a non romantic wedding night.
He understood, she was almost seven months pregnant; and tired all the time. When morning had hit, Lilly was now wearing a long t-shirt and a pair of pajama pants, that Scotty had put on her last night. She remained still very much fast asleep, while her head rested against his shoulder. He was already awake, but for starters he led his new bride sleep.
After getting up, Scotty went downstairs to pour himself some coffee; before realizing that hadn’t even plugged in the coffee maker, nor set the time on it. While muttering several curses underneath his breath, he waited for the coffee to finally brew. Even then, Lilly was still very much asleep. Yesterday might have turned out to be the worst day of their lives, except that it wasn’t. However Scotty wasn’t entirely convinced that they were expecting a daughter, besides he didn’t trust his new father in-law.
Just then, Lilly started stirring before her eyes flickered open, “Mmm, what time is it?” she replied sleepily. With a smile, Scotty pressed his lips to her face, “Sleep beautiful, you deserve it.” “No, I’m up; she’s already kicking, “as her hand gently caressed her stomach. He too placed his hand there, “Still think it’s a boy.”
Lilly yawned slightly, “It’s our little girl,” her voice sounding tired while she gave a small smile, “Maybe next time.” Bending down, Scotty planted several kisses on her stomach, “Hey,” he whispered, “Kicking already inside of Mommy?”
“I didn’t know that you spoke in baby language?”
“ Don’t take a tone Lil; I was speaking to our daughter. There was problem that I can’t speak to my own child?”
Lilly lips curled into a smile, “No but I think she’s hungry, could go for a cinnamon right at this moment.” He sighed, “It’s raining Lil, and too far to drive to the mall to get one,” his complaining didn’t help her, “Then I’ll make something.”
She rolled her eyes, “Yeah, right. I’m not subjecting my daughter to your horrible cooking skills. Anyway just go out and get me a cinnabon with large lemonade.” Grabbing his jacket, Scotty groaned, “Some wedding night last night, had to fall asleep when we got home.”
After he had left, Lilly exhaled slowly, before showering and dressing. Yet she climbed back into bed, awaiting her treat. She could practically eat anything in slight, but by the time that Scotty had managed to come back, Lilly now wanted something else.
“Just eat it Lil, quit complaining. I ain’t driving all over Philly to satisfy your cravings, that and I’m now tired.”
Lilly stuck her tongue out before gripping onto her stomach, she was clearly in pain. Scotty ran to her side, “Talk to me.” “ I think I’m having the baby,” she managed to say, “It’s too early,” before Lilly had fainted.
One year later, on their first anniversary Lilly was flipping through the pages of her wedding album; while Scotty was busy playing with their daughter; Rachel Lynn. However the pain didn’t cause Rachel to be born early, in fact she arrived just three months later; perfect and healthy.
Just down Scotty sat down, as he glanced over at the photos, “Your dad still hates me Lil,” but saw how his wife had looked while seeing the pictures of her mother. Ellen Rush had died exactly four months after Rachel’s birth, but that itself was yet another story.
“Your dad was arguing with her, but right after them both saw Rachel, the two were acting like proud grandparents, “seeing a photo of Ellen holding their daughter in their arms.
Scotty’s face had melted by seeing the photo of Rachel as a baby, as Lilly turned back the pages to before the wedding. It was there that he saw all her to-do lists, “You actually kept them, didn’t think that you would.”
“What’s it matter Scotty, we’ve been married for now a year; and I still keep those lists.” Grabbing a pen, Lilly began writing down several things.
Make sure that Scotty actually picked up the newspaper this morning….
“Already did that this morning?” he answered as she now placed a small check.
Get Rachel ready to spend the weekend with my father… Check Scotty now made a face, “C’mon Lil, you don’t need any list.” Give Rachel’s old clothes to Christina… Check
This made him curious, as Lilly continued writing, but it was Rachel who blabbed the news, “Baby,” she said proudly. Scotty looked over, “Where’s the baby Rachel?” he asked.
“Mommy,” pointing to her mother.
Lilly smiled, “I already told her, she’s one happy big sister to be.”
Later on that night, after Lilly’s father had taken their daughter back to his house to spend the weekend, it left just the two of them now. Scotty couldn’t believe all the drama that had ensued, before they had gotten married, “This over us getting married?”
“Happy Anniversary Scotty,” she said
“Happy Anniversary Lil, I love you,” as the two shared a kiss before the two fell asleep, as Scotty continued holding her throughout the night.
