It's been three years since Lilly had left homicide for good, but the squad has uncovered a cold case that needs her help in solving .Can Scotty convince Lilly to come back and solve this one, or does he realize that she is happy no longer being a cop??
No romance, but a good Lilly/Scotty friendship..Please comment I know I'm really bad at writing..
Rating- PG-13
Lilly glanced at the calendar noticing that it had been just exactly three years, two days and four hours since she had left her life as a cop behind. Her present life, was now being a professor at a local college in Connecticut.
Although now Lilly was a single mother of two; her son Matthew whom was now five years old and a two year old daughter; Claire.
Things didn’t pan out too well between her and their father; Eddie Saccardo but Lilly hadn’t been dating since the bitter breakout. She for all reasons didn’t mind being a single mother at all, besides her hours at the college allowed her to spend equal enough time with her kids. For all intensive purposes, she was much happier being a professor than a cop. Although it was hard to deal with several of her students, Lilly took an extreme joy to be teaching about criminal justice.
Looking up, she spotted Scotty looking in the doorway. It had been three years also since Lilly had seen or had spoken to him, “ Professor Rush?”
With a smile, Lilly got up as the two shared a small hug, “ Been awhile, what brings you to Connecticut?”
“ A case”, glancing down at the pictures that were on her desk, “ So you were right”, indicating a picture of Claire. Lilly nodded, “ She was a surprise, I didn’t actually know until that day she had been born. “
Scotty could see that his former partner was indeed happy, she had light in her eyes and not the sadness that had been etched into them. Perhaps this move was a good thing, “ I need your help Lil, with this case. Could use your input on this one, it’s not the normal cold job we’d expect. “
Lilly hesitated, “ This isn’t my life anymore, I can’t help you.” He could understand and sympthanize that she had indeed moved on, “ Isn’t it what you teach, “ seeing all the papers on serial killers and cold cases, “ Just one time, It would mean a lot to me. Not even my new partner has the patience or understanding like you do. “

However Lilly wasn’t at all convinced, besides she had now a life of her own. Scotty was clearly hiding something from her, “It’s the last case you worked on but couldn’t solve. “
That’s when she started grading papers, in an effort to not think about that case. It had been a bad and scary one indeed, especially for her whom was then currently newly pregnant. Lilly didn’t dare to re-live the horror of what these serial killers had done, especially now. Protecting her children was something that she had valued.
“Just go back to Philly, Scotty”, as he looked up. Scotty sighed deeply, “Look Lil, I think you’re the only one that could solve this case. This ain’t like what happened to you with Moe. “
Just then the image of Moe’s face appeared in her mind, Lilly’s heart began racing slightly. His face was the last that she had ever wanted to see, “Don’t mention him, just go”, as he got up and left. With now her door closed, Lilly glanced over at the photos of her kids. She loved them so much, but didn’t want to risk putting them both in danger.
Later on, while Matthew was doing his homework at the kitchen table, Lilly sighed while in the middle of cooking dinner. She had learned how to cook, upon becoming pregnant with Claire; somehow her eyes had caught the attention of Saccardo whom was now holding their daughter in his arms.
Although he was still a devoted father to both of their kids, the bitterness remained. In part, it was most Lilly’s fault for their relationship to end that way. She still had managed to be cordial to him, even though she now felt him kissing her on the cheek. Eddie may have hated the way things had ended up, but in all honestly he still loved her.
With their relationship now unfixable, the two remained amicable around their kids. After dinner was over, he finally left; leaving Lilly to tuck them both into bed.
After the two were asleep, she remained seated on her daughter’s bed. Lilly gently pressed her lips down on Claire’s cheek, knowing that her close encounter with one of the killers; almost lost her little girl forever. She couldn’t go through that again, nor be pulled back onto that case.
This time Scotty was wrong, she couldn’t help him. Looking down at her sleeping little girl, Lilly felt extremely lucky to have two beautiful children of her own. After getting up, she also kissed Matthew but leaving the room.
At the hotel, Scotty sighed while watching a football game on television; he knew that it had to take more convincing to get his former partner back on this case. To him, Lilly was just avoiding solving this case due to her own emotional problems that she had seemed never to be rid of. However he had winded up over at her place, but Lilly wasn’t happy to see him.
Her eyes were tired like, “We need to talk Lil.” She sighed, “It’s late and I have a lecture to give early tomorrow morning”, about to close the door on him.
He could see that he came at a bad time, as Lilly let out a small yawn, “This can’t wait, and it waited long enough. That’s would you would have said. “
“In the past Scotty, now please leave, “but it was clear that he wasn’t, as a little boy appeared next to her.
Lilly then knelt down in front of Matthew as he held onto her, Scotty saw just how much being a mother had meant to her. He knew she deserved that chance but yet didn’t seem to budge, which was making her a bit angry, “Go upstairs Matt, I’ll be there in a few,” giving him a kiss before he went back upstairs.
Turning now towards her former partner, she sighed, “Go back to Philly Scotty, my life is here. I can’t put myself back on this case, not after everything.” After closing the door behind, Lilly went upstairs to check on her kids. Indeed Matthew was now fast asleep, before she too went into her bedroom. Inside she sighed deeply before going to sleep.
The next day, Scotty indeed returned home to Philly. As he walked into Homicide everything seemed to be different ever since Lilly had left. It was clearly missing her presences, but upon entering the warehouse he sighed.

The warehouse was empty without Lil’s presence but he knew that this case needed her involvement on. However what he had failed to realize is that she had almost had gotten killed while on this case, along with being pregnant with her daughter.
After that, their friendship had been strained; Lilly couldn’t forgive him for losing focus.
She had managed to avoid his calls, and soon left for the Constitution State. Just then Vera appeared, “You get a hold of Lil yet?” “Yeah doesn’t want back on this one. “ Vera sighed, “Can’t say that I blame her Scotty, you did mess up. “, which didn’t make Scotty feel a whole lot better. In fact he was about ready to punch the older guy out, “So Lil ever marry what’s his face?”
“Nah, she’s just a single mom.” Just as he was reading over something, Scotty noticed something that was odd; “Didn’t Lil write up a report before she left Homicide?”
The sound of Jefferies voice startled the two men, “She did but the boss has it now, we’re needed back on the streets, there’s been another killing.”
While the squad hurried down to the crime scene, Lilly was in the middle of walking with her kid’s home. She felt much happier living in such a nice area; but her mind wasn’t on what Scotty had tried to bring to her attention, but on Matthew’s day at school.
Just a few minutes after getting home, her son had clicked on the TV; which displayed a news alert about something in Philly.
Lilly’s eyes widened before clicking it off, her heart now was racing fast. She sank into cushion of the couch while continuing to hold Claire close. “Mommy”, Matthew called out, “Are you Scared”, he asked? Shaking her head no, Lilly took in a deep breath, before kissing both of them, “I love you both so much. “
Matthew moved closer, while Lilly felt her own fear inside rising. She had the power to stop these men, but for some reason screwed the whole thing up. In addition, put herself in danger while only two months pregnant. With now Claire smiling at her, Lilly knew that her own daughter was just as strong as she was; if now more.
That was part of the reason to leave Philly; to give her children a better, happier life. The other was due to being pushed forty feet into the river.
As Claire got down and ran over to play with something, Lilly’s hand rested on her heart; feeling just how fast it was going. She indeed was quite scared; scared of this killer taking the two most important people that she loved away.
Just then the door had opened, as Eddie stood there; noticing just how shaken up she was. “Take Claire and go upstairs,” he told their son before sitting down beside her. Eddie also had heard about the news; him still being a cop in the Hartford Division; which was not far from what the two now lived. Lilly breathed out, “Why is this happening again, I can’t try to fix everything like I had done in the past. Just want to live my life without worrying about this. “
“A part of you won’t let it go Lil; you still have this instinct to want to solve this case. You gave up everything why? “
That’s when the tears had started to fall; in the past she would have just kept those up inside; but now that had all changed. Lilly cried softly, knowing that she was a failure, not only to herself but her kids as well. What were they going to think of her; about how once she was the first female detective in Homicide now turned Professor?
During the middle of the night, her phone rang, “Miss me?” the evil voice now spoke. It sent chills down her spine, knowing that this was one of the killers that had very well indeed had scared her, “See you have two beautiful kids, and still all alone.”
Lilly got a grip, “Why are you doing this?” “Oh Lilly, cause I want to and you’re not even a cop anymore. Don’t worry I’m in Philly, far from your reach. Looks like this cold case will stay cold.”
She immediately got tough, “You don’t scare me!” “Oh yes you are Scared sweet Lilly, I hear it in your voice. Your pulse is racing, that why you left after we disappeared?”
“No, and don’t you ever call me that again!” as she slammed the phone down hard. Just then the sound of a window was heard being shattered, while the alarm went off. Grabbing something, Lilly proceeded to listen, before opening up the door. Her breathing quickened, before Claire came running out into her arms.

Before long, the police patrolled around, but couldn’t find anything. Lilly knew in her mind that this was indeed a threat, from one of the killers. However just after the cops had left, she continued holding Claire in her arms. She had to protect her family, but still didn’t want back on the case. The fear of the killers returning was alarming, knowing that they know where she lived.
In Philly, Scotty also had received a similar called and feared the worse for his former partner. In fact, he immediately dialed her number, just hoping that she would pick up. As fate would have it, she didn’t, but her answering machine did. Scotty just hung up at that point, but worried that the killer now knew where she lived.
On a hunch, he dialed her cell which also connected him to her voicemail. With frustration, he once again hung up, “Got nothing, Lil’s not answering her phone.” Stillman looked worried, knowing about that fact she had two small kids, both under the age of six. The fact that these serial killers were now once again killed; made him wonder if in fact she was actually safe living in Connecticut. The last killings had taken place there, although the body was dumped in Philly. His main focus was on these cases, but still Stillman worried terribly about Lilly; whom was still like a daughter to him.
He wasn’t about to let anyone harm her, even though she was no longer a cop. Just then Scotty looked back, “Want me to drive up there boss?” “No, I need you here. This case had gotten out of control last time; I’m not letting it happen again. We need to find them and stop this for good.”
That wasn’t what Scotty was expecting to hear, after how one of them made the beginning of her pregnancy a very difficult and stressful one. Not to mention how her emotional state was, after being tossed into the river while inside of her car. Still, he worried for both Lilly and her children, whom needed to be protected.
By the next morning, Lilly was downstairs in the basement doing laundry, before noticing how her son was clinging to her, “Are you going to stop the bad men mommy?” She sighed but didn’t answer, for the first time she was at a loss for answers. After pushing a button, Lilly turned to see Claire playing in the other room of the basement. It was good thing that this townhome already had a finished basement, but also that Eddie had turned one of the rooms into a playroom for their kids.
Just moments after leaving the kids playing down there, Lilly thought about what Matthew had just recently said. He knew that she had once been a cop; perhaps he was proud of her. She still could protect her kids, as mother; something that her own mother had lacked in doing. Deep down, Lilly knew why the killers had reappeared and knew they were going to start with her.
She had originally reopened the case, therefore the target. Not once did she feel compelled to even call her former squad. No that would be too easy; especially that it would put her family in jeopardy.
Just then the sound of a phone ringing had startled her. Once picking it up, Lilly heard the sound of Scotty’s voice on the other line, “When were you going to tell me this Lil, the guy shattered one of your windows?” She sighed, “I don’t know if it was him.”, but Lilly knew that Scotty knew her better than that, “One of the killers called me last night, I don’t know. The glass shattering scared both of my kids.” From over the phone Scotty felt his own fear rising, “Want me to come up there, where’s Saccardo?” Although Lilly was no longer in a relationship with him, she still cared for him, “I haven’t told him yet, took me half of the night to calm Claire down. Matthew barely slept; I can’t be back on this case. It’s too dangerous even for you Scotty. “
He knew that her mind had changed once she had become a mother, “Lil, you need to tell him. Get out of your house and take them someplace. Just listen to me Lil.” “No, and put my kids in danger. Scotty the number was a Philly area code, he’s not in Connecticut. They aren’t that organized, they kill randomly you know that. “ Lilly could hear the sound of him chuckling over the phone, “Still sound like the same stubborn cop you always were, I kind of missed that. “

Just moments after Lilly had gotten off the phone, the power went out. For a moment it was quiet, until the sound of a phone was heard. “Your heart is racing fast my sweet Lilly; your time is running out. See that even your own son is disappointed in you, your daughter too. I’m back Lilly, and since you aren’t a cop anymore I’m going to kill and nobody can stop me or them.”
That’s when the killer had hung up, it was luck she still had a phone with a cord that connected into the wall. Somehow the fear or these guys looming sent chills of fright throughout her entire body, as Lilly picked up Claire into her arms, she glanced over at her son. Matthew held out her badge, “Get them Mommy with Uncle Scotty. “
Lilly wanted to make her kids proud of her, but yet found that protecting both of her kids was her number one priority, “ Mommy needs to stay here”, as Claire’s head rested against her heart. She could hear the sound of her mother’s frantic heartbeat. “It’s alright,” trying to bring them forth some comfort. With an inch of fright she got up, as Matthew used a flashlight while they walked upstairs. While inside of the kid’s room, Lilly heard the sound of someone smashing open the glass patio doors, “The Closet”, she whispered. Once inside, Matthew buried his head in his mother’s chest along with his sister, “I love you Mommy.”
“I love you too, both of you.” each kissing their cheeks. Downstairs, one of the killers lurked around the townhome, while glancing at several different pictures. He knew what had to be done; kill the original detective who had reopened this case. That detective was former Detective Lilly Rush.

Upon hearing the sound of footsteps approaching, Lilly knew she had to protect her kids. Grabbing a flashlight, she headed out, before closing the door to the closet; silently. Walking slowly, Lilly knew how to approach a suspect, but peeking her head out slowly; her own fear had risen.
When Lilly made her way to the stairs, somehow had pushed her down. She struggled to fight with the intruder, but it was no use. The man seemed to be much stronger than her, before Lilly got to her feet. She tried to fight but was once again thrown down onto the floor, blacking out the man fled. It was good timing that Eddie had arrived; his fear had risen upon seeing that the front door was open; with trails of muddy footprints all over the carpet. Moving closer, he saw Lilly lying on the ground near the couch. In a matter of moments, the whole place was surrounded by cops. Eddie glanced over at the paramedic whom was in the middle of taking Lilly’s pressure. Just then Matthew stood there, “The killer was here Daddy, and he called Mommy before.” Eddie knelt down to his son, “How do you know this?” “Mommy got scared, are you going to stop them? his eyes looking innocently at his father. Eddie let out a breath, before another cop informed him about something. Outside there was clearly a set of footprints leading away from the townhome. Clearly, this case once again had heated up, except that this was in an entirely different state.
However Matthew had followed, as his own curiosity rose. He glanced around before finding something, “Daddy!” clearly Eddie was surprised by his own son’s findings. Sure enough on the ground was an empty wallet. This was consistent with the findings from the other murder scenes; it didn’t take very long for both Scotty and Stillman to arrive. Eddie immediately took Matthew back into the house, knowing that Lilly wouldn’t be pleased.
As the three of them continued combing the grounds, Scotty also found a clue near where the killer had entered, “Guy must have climbed up and smashed open the door, where was Lil when this happened?” “Upstairs, she and kids hide. Lil must have tried to distract the guy, knowing her,” which had him wanting to back in and check on both her and the kids.
Stillman nodded, before Eddie went back inside. Scotty let out a sigh, “He came back Boss; one of them did. This guy is angry, and out of control.”
While the two men continued to canvas the areas, inside Eddie kissed her forehead,” I know that you don’t want to leave, but I’m worried both for you and our kids. Claire’s really scared,” seeing his little girl buried in her mother’s arms, “Matthew is as well, just listen to me.”
Shaking her head, Lilly couldn’t leave, “I can take care of myself.” That’s when Eddie disagreed, “Not after what happened, I’m staying until they are all caught.” Just then Scotty had entered seeing just how shaken up his former partner was. He was wrong to even have brought this case up to her, “ Hey Lil, we’ll find them.” “No, I need to solve this thing and protect my family. This case needs me on this one,” that sentence had caught the attention of Stillman; who had just heard what she had said. He too was skeptical, “I can’t bring you back Lil, you’re a mother, “seeing how shaken up Claire was. Stillman knew better than to put his former detective in anymore danger, “Let us solve this one.”
Lilly looked up, “No boss, I need to for their sake. I need to find them, just one last time. What if they got back into hiding, I don’t want my kids to fear that they’ll lose me or their father. The victims and their families had waited long enough” If anything, Scotty knew that his former partner was ready to tackle this case. Eddie wasn’t so thrilled about this; even after they had all left, he shook his head, “I won’t let you do this, and I love you too much.”
Getting up, she carried their now sleeping daughter in her arms, while he held Matthew in his. While walking upstairs together, Lilly knew that she needed to put this case to rest. It was still very much important to her.
Just three days later, Lilly had arrived back in Philly. As she entered her former department, Kat instantly hugged her, “You look great Lil, how’s the kids?” “Fine,” she said with a smile before seeing Scotty looking straight at her, “Hey Lil, welcome back,” also giving her a hug. Along with that both Vera and Jefferies were also happy to see her as well, but they knew her home was now in Connecticut; not here. While sifting through evidence, Lilly came across something, “Who found this at the crime scene, at my house?” “Matthew”, who had surprised her,” Kid’s just like his mom.” Ignoring her partner’s comment, she continued to look at all the evidence that was present, “They are still killing but it appears that one of them paid a visit to me. No reports of any killings in vicinity of in the state of Connecticut related to the murders. They happened here.”

In Connecticut, Eddie opened up a photo album that contained photos of when they had first adopted Matthew. He saw both love and happiness on each other’s faces; deep down his love for Lilly was still very much strong. In that one photograph, she was also pregnant with Claire. He had to still protect his family, therefore his own reasons for not heading back to Philly.
Within a single breath, Eddie put down the album before heading into the kids room. He gently pulled up the covers closer to Claire, before kissing her cheek. Just watching her breathing in and out, Eddie had remembered just how tiny she once was. How they both practically had cried at her birth, Lilly especially.
Then as he made his way to Matthew’s bed, that’s when he had noticed that his son wasn’t sleeping, “It’s late, you have school tomorrow.” “I can’t sleep Daddy,” he replied, “Is Mommy getting the bad guys?” Eddie nodded before kissing the top of his head, “It’s late now buddy, you need to sleep. Let me worry about Mommy.”
He knew that their son was very curious as to whom these guys were, but for now, Eddie then hugged him. Matthew laid his head back on the pillow, while his father pulled up the covers closer. It was clear that the five year old couldn’t sleep, “Are you going to marry Mommy?”
That was yet another question that he wanted to so much to answer, but yet couldn’t, “Leave that to both Mommy and I, alright, “giving him a kiss.
Once he turned out the lights, Eddie exhaled silently. He worried about Lilly, hoping that she could solve this case. Back in Philly, Lilly continued to shift through all the evidence while hearing the sound of her ex-partners cell constantly ringing. This had reminded her of several of her students, whom always had seemed to have someone calling them.
As usual she heard him speaking to still his annoying girlfriend; Frankie. Once that Scotty had gotten off the phone, Lilly looked up, “You’re still dating her?” “ Nah, she’s calling about my daughter; Natalie.” The news of that shocked her, “Since when Scotty?”
“She’s about four months older than Claire is, I never told you. Though you know that Lil?” he said seeing her shaking her head. Upon showing her a photo, Lilly smiled, “She has your looks, good thing. “
As she showed him a photo of Claire, he could see that she resembled both of her parents. Just then Jefferies came in happy to see her, “Think I found something, which your son had found. It’s a finger print, but it matches the other ones found. When I ran it, the doer isn’t in the system.”
Lilly knew that something now was wrong, “So one of the killers drops a piece of evidence in near my house, why. Was this a way to lure me back to Philly?”
It's going to be awhile before I update this one, I've seem to have lost interest in writing this story... As usual any comments about this story are always welcome..
