Summary- Lilly Rush wonders what Scotty Valens had said, right before he had died. She ponders if he did really love her or was trying to warn against something yet to come?
BANG!
Lilly looked around before seeing Scotty lying on the ground; with blood coming out of his abdomen. Somehow this murderer had prevented her from getting to him. Her heart raced in heavy panic, knowing that her partner needed help.
“Please he’s hurt,” holding up both hands. The killer grinned, as Lilly’s eyes remained on Scotty; whom was gasping heavily in pain. He was losing too much blood, and going into shock. She had to do something, but yet didn’t want to get herself killed as well.
Before Lilly could fire her weapon, several loud shots were heard, before the killer slumped over. However she didn’t see who had fired those shots, but counted to three before running to her partner’s side.
By now, Scotty had outstretched his hand, “Lil,” he managed to say as Lilly began applying pressure, “It’s okay, I’m calling for an ambulance.”
Her phone was dead, making her panic even more. Looking around, she clearly was scared; and afraid. Turning back to Scotty, she took his pulse; it was weakening, “Hang on Scotty, please.”
That’s when he squeezed her hand,” Hey,” saying their secret code. That meant he needed her, “Lil, “as more blood came rushing out of his wound. Scotty was dying; he knew it and she did as well. Lilly was trying to remain strong, “C’mon stay with me, okay? “
His eyes told her that he couldn’t, as Lilly increased the pressure,” You can Scotty, I’m not going to let you die, “fighting back her own tears, “Please.”
Outside the clouds grew darker; an omen of was to happen. Inside of the dark place, Lilly now watched Scotty die. It practically broke her heart, to see him struggling before releasing his last breath. Her tears flooding her eyes, but didn’t dare fall. Her fingers felt for his pulse, only to find out that there no longer was.
Her heart cried out as she rested her head down on Scotty’s chest, “Please wake up,” she begged but yet clearly Scotty was dead. She couldn’t bring him back, but now it was up to herself to find a way out. Yet they had been both abducted, and having no clue where Lilly was; turned into being a major problem.
As Lilly then lifted her head up, she once again looked down at her down deceased partner; still wondering what he was saying just before he had died.
However now wasn’t the time to figure that out, as Lilly started to run; until finding an entrance that has left to the outside. Once outside, she continued running before colliding into a former flame; Eddie Saccardo.
He saw the blood on her outfit and hands, “What happened?” “Scotty’s dead, “she sobbed into his arms.
Once Lilly had led him into the abandoned building, Eddie saw now the lifeless body of Detective Valens; lying on the floor; nearby the killer’s body also rested there.
The game was now over, but a little while later Lilly saw her partner’s body being wheeled out. Her eyes glistening with tears, “NO,” she gasped while running towards the stretcher. Unzipping the bag, Lilly began crying hard as Eddie now held her back.
Indeed this was a sad moment, while the rest of the squad bowed their heads in a moment of silence; for one of their own.
Still the question remained, what was Scotty trying to say?

This is a short chapter, but the next one will be longer
On the ride home, Lilly remained quiet and still. She couldn’t believe that her partner and best friend was now dead. It made her now ponder leaving homicide for good, nobody could replace Scotty. Inside she knew that Scotty would never want her to give up, because of his death. He would have wanted her to stay on, and continue being a cop.
Yet it was hard, for her to digest that she would never see Scotty’s face again Upon returning to Philly, Lilly remained in bed, not wanting to get up. All that she could is lie there crying, while mad at herself for letting this happen. Then her mind had floated back to what he was trying to say to her, was it those three little words or something else?
Just three days before, she had found a red rose sitting on her desk. Scotty knew nothing about it, nor was he hiding anything. Plus the handwriting on the card, didn’t match his. Was it at all possible that she, had wanted to be with him?
Plus then there was the song on the radio, one that Lilly wanted for her wedding song; if she had even had gotten married. No one except for her had known about the song, but why was it playing on the radio constantly. It was an old song, not a recent one.
Maybe it had nothing to do with that was going on, she now had to look forward to Scotty’s funeral.

Glancing over, Lilly then spotted a single red rose; lying on her nightstand. Where did come from and why was it even there? It was the same type of rose, but yet this one smelled oh so fragrant. As she then lifted up her head, flashes of that night played over and over again in her mind; but then it played a memory of the first time that she had met him.
It was on the Paige Pratt case, they met in the observation room. Lilly could remember the warmth in his hand, as she was shaking his. That was now seven years ago, and now the man was gone forever. Deep down, Lilly did love him, but yet never told him. Why was love so hard for her to feel, especially when all this time she had someone that her heart had yearned to be with.
As she opened up one of the drawers and pulled out a photograph, it was of her and Scotty at Jones Tavern; she knew that now nothing would be the same without him. The sound of his voice, the smell of his cologne; and the protection and safety she had felt with him, was now gone. Most of all, Lilly would never get to say to him; those three little words.
Then the same question had remained, what was Scotty trying to say? Getting up, Lilly got into her car and drove back to the crime scene; now knowing where it was. Upon arriving, she then flashed her badge before, seeing the blood on the concrete from where Scotty had died. With courage of breath, Lilly moved closer with tears coming out of her eyes.
That Night; 10 minutes before Scotty’s death
As Scotty continued to lie there bleeding, Lilly could see his lips moving. His eyes looking straight into hers, but yet she couldn’t make out what he was saying. Clearly, Scotty was fighting hard to stay alive, but was losing way too much blood, but had managed to say one word; Hey.
PRESENT DAY
Scotty had indeed saved her life, after she had said that word. He then held her after Lilly had slid down the wall, but that was two years ago. This wasn’t the same thing, but as tears then started streaming downward, she began sobbing, “I’m sorry Scotty,” she whispered, while looking now at the blood stained cement.
Upon getting up, Lilly got straight into her car and drove away. While driving, the radio began playing that song; which sent her into frenzy. Glancing over she saw Scotty sitting there in the passenger seat, for a second. Then he was gone, as her car then pulled off to the side of the road.
Her heart was beating erratically, before she began to crying hard. Tomorrow was his funeral, and Lilly had to be there. Although now, Lilly was going to give a speech about her partner, with the pain still etched into her heart.

There's a twist in this story, but yet this one is a sad chapter..
Chapter 4
On the morning of Scotty’s funeral, Lilly dressed in all black arrived. Her eyes were red due to crying, as she solemnly acknowledged her squad. Everyone could tell that, she was in deep mourning. However what they didn’t’ know was that she was in love with him, for the longest time.
In her hand, she carried a long white rose; but suddenly felt sick upon seeing Scotty’s casket. Her handsome man was lying inside, dead. Tears of sadness cried out from her eyes, while Lilly tried to remain strong. Stillman gently patted her on the back, “I’m sorry Lil,” he whispered, “ Scotty was a good cop.”
“ It’s my fault boss, It should have been me; not Scotty,” her voice cracking. Stillman knew that she was in pain over this, “ It’s not your fault Lil, the person that’s responsible is dead. Scotty already received his justice.”
Shaking her head, Lilly knew that wasn’t the truth, “ No Boss, he didn’t. Scotty was shot from a different angle, the other man was shot by the killer.”
This raised up new questions, as Jefferies now had informed Stillman; over the news. This was exactly what Lilly had just said, which was going to be a very big case for their squad.
Right now, at this moment they were attending Scotty’s funeral. His relatives were all sitting on the chairs, while Lilly felt like fainting.
She couldn’t take it anymore, seeing Scotty’s casket, hearing people crying. Lilly had wished that this was just a dream, and that she would wake up and Scotty would be alive. This wasn’t a dream, as now Stillman got up to the podium and began to say a few words.
When it was Lilly’s turn, she walked up with her heart racing. She was nervous yet very grief strickened over this whole thing.
“ Scotty was more than my partner, he was also my best friend. I don’t know how I can still come to work every day and never see his face again,” her voice now crying ,while the tears began streaming down her cheeks, “ Just two years ago, Scotty had saved my life, after several of us were held hostage inside of the building. He bravely shot the man who shot me.”
Everyone around her was also sniffling, as Lilly began to speak again,” That night that he was killed, Scotty took that bullet for me. He didn’t want to see me suffer, yet also wanted to be the hero. Scotty was my hero, and has always been. “
With a breath, Lilly knew she had to say this, “ I miss you Scotty and will always miss you.”
The rest of the funeral was sad, but it was the burial that completely broke her. She closed her eyes as Scotty’s casket was being lowered into the ground. Her heart ached terribly, but the long stemmed rose, dropped into the ground, as her mouth formed those three little words; silently; I love you.
She knew that Scotty didn’t hear that, from wherever he was now. Dispite that Lilly was then dropped off by Jefferies at her home, as she lay down on the bed; sobbing; she wanted to be held in Scotty’s arms. Lilly needed his comfort and love, but yet that was never going to happen now.
Sure enough, Lilly walked slowly into homicide the next morning. Her eyes glancing over at Scotty’s empty desk solemnly, knowing that he was never going to be here again. Sitting there on the desk, was his empty coffee cup.
Picking it up, she felt more tears threatening to fall.
Just then Vera came in, seeing just how devastated that she was, “ We’re closer to finding him Lil, you can interrogate him.” “ He doesn’t’ deserve life in prison Nick, not for taking Scotty’s life.” Vera understood, but yet had no clue just how close they were to catching this guy.

A few days had now passed, since Scotty’s funeral as Lilly stood in front of his grave. She still wasn’t coming to terms that he was now dead, “I love you, always have, “she finally had said. Her eyes spurted out more tears of sadness, before placing a long red rose on the cold, hard ground. Lilly exhaled deeply before closing her eyes, when she had opened them; she saw Scotty standing there for a moment.
Then he was gone, while Lilly continued standing there all alone. Why did she wait so long to finally admit this, about her love for him? Just then her eyes caught the killer standing there, as Lilly’s heart began racing. It wasn’t really the killer, but someone else that appeared to look like him. Was Lilly losing it, or was she riddled with guilt for not telling Scotty sooner? Upon heading back to headquarters, she sighed softly wishing that she was walking back with him.
However when Lilly didn’t return, everyone knew that something wasn’t right. Despite everything, no one had a clue where she was. There wasn’t any evidence left except for her cell phone and badge, but that as well would come up with no prints from the killer.
When Lilly had awaked, she found herself in a darkened room. Her eyes spotted Scotty standing in the shadows as if he himself was still watching out for her, “Scotty!” she gasped.
He didn’t speak before fading away, leaving a very sad Lilly sitting there all alone, and “Hey!”
No answer, until she had realized why she had been taken. Suddenly It was all clear, both her and Scotty had reopened this case. Only that now she had witnessed him killing her partner, somehow Lilly knew that she had to stay alive.
A few hours now had passed, as she found yet another rose, resting beside her. If the roses meant love, where was it coming from?

While Lilly continued sitting in the darkened room, she didn’t know that Scotty was indeed watching over ; protecting her. From his perspective, he knew that she needed to stay alive; to him it was important to see this happen. Yet, being now just a ghost; Scotty couldn’t do too much nor talk to the woman that needed to hear the sound of his voice again.
Lilly knew that she had to find a way out of this place, but yet had found herself to be locked inside; with no escape. Remembering what had happened the last time, she wasn’t about to die herself. No solving this case wasn’t just for the victims, but for Scotty was well. After all he deserved it, however time was clearly running out.
In fact as the hours went on by, Lilly grew hungrier not to mention just how thirsty she was. Somehow the killer never came in, but the room was growing colder by the minute.
Tiny goose bumps appeared on her arms, while she shivered. In her mind, she pictured herself lying with him, with her head resting on his chest. For a moment it seemed pretty real, hearing the sound of his heartbeat.
His arms holding her tight, while he breathed in and out; but now that wasn’t going to happen. In fact, he never did, since Lilly never told him what she really had felt about him. Still she dreamed about having that one dance with him, how she had felt right then and there. Lilly wanted so much to have been able to go back in time, and save him.
Time only went forward not back, as the door now had opened. She felt a pair of hands, wrapping around her throat, while Lilly began fighting. She couldn’t die, no her partner and love needed his justice.
Just then the door had opened, as the stranger tossed her a long coat, “ Put this on, “ he growled. Doing as she was told, Lilly did, before being led out and into a car with tinted windows.
