***************************************************************************
The next 8 months went on, filled with mood-swings, odd cravings and fights. However Lilly and Scotty were still making it through. They had decided not to find out the sex of the baby, wanting it to be a surprise. Lilly was in her last month, staying at home looking huge.
Whilst lying on the couch, Lilly felt something trickle down her leg. She looked down and opened her eyes wide. She realised her water had broken.
She tried to get up, feeling pain rush up her spin. She winced, lying back down. She felt the cool liquid gushing down her legs, making her worry. She reached over to the table, trying to get her cell. The pain yet again returned. Lilly tried to push it away, finally grasping her phone.
She lay back, sighing in relief as she dialled Scotty’s number.
“Valens.”
“Scotty, my water broke.”
“What?” Scotty jumped up from the desk he was seated at, starting to panic.
“I need a hospital.”
“God Lil, give me 5 minutes, I’ll be there.” Scotty hanged up, struggling to find his keys.
“What’s wrong?” Will asked.
“Lil’s water broke; I have to get her to the hospital.”
“Crap, let me get my stuff.” Kat mumbled, trying to shove the rest of her donut in her mouth.
When Scotty arrived home, Lilly was lying on the couch, screaming in agony. “Lil?”
“Scotty.”
“Why are the contractions so early?” Scotty asked.
“They’re not.” Lilly whined. “It just hurts my back.”
Scotty lifted Lilly in his arms, fighting to keep her up with her heavy weight. Once in the car, Scotty hit the accelerator, followed by his co-workers in the cars behind. Scotty carried Lilly into the hospital, running to the front desk.
“Can I help you?” The woman being the desk asked.
“My wife’s water broke.”
“Name please.”
“Lilly Valens.” He whispered, shuffling Lilly into a better position.
“Room 23, a doctor will be with you soon.”
Lilly and Scotty were sitting in the room, holding each other’s hands when a doctor appeared.
“Hello, Mrs Valens, I’m doctor Thomas but you can call me Luke. How are you?”
“Sore.”
“That’s normal, let’s see how far you are.”
Once he was done, he informed them her would be back soon when he thought she would be ready. The pain was unbearable for Lilly; her contractions had become stronger and were happening every minute.
“Scotty, get the doctor.”
“He’ll come when you’re ready.”
“Scotty!” Lilly screamed, clutching his hand. “Get the stupid doctor before it comes.”
Scotty jumped from his seat and was back with the doctor in record time.
“Oh thank god.” Lilly moaned. “It’s coming.”
The doctor moved between her legs. “Okay, let’s get you ready.”
A few minutes later Lilly heard the doctor talk. “On the count of three, I want you to push. 1...2...3.”
Lilly didn’t push. She looked up at Scotty, feeling tears starting to emerge.
“Babe, you need to push.”
“I can’t Scotty.” She cried.
“Look, I know it hurts, just relax. You can hurt me as much as you like, but the baby needs to come out.”
“Promise me you love me.” Lilly whispered.
“I promise baby.”
Lilly pushed as hard as she could, pulling Scotty’s tie, making him wish she would calm down. Scotty felt her let go, and heard a soft cry. He looked up at Lilly seeing her eyes closed and her breathing heavily.
“You did it Lil.” He mumbled into her ear.
“I did?”
“Yeah, you did.” Scotty placed a gentle kiss to her forehead, rubbing her stomach.
“Mr Valens, would you like to cut her umbilical cord?”
“Yeah.”
Scotty held the new baby girl, handing her to Lilly.
“My baby girl.” Lilly cried.
“What do you want to name her?”
“Summer Marissa Valens.” She smiled happily.
“Sounds beautiful.” Scotty whispered, kissing Summer’s soft head.
