Anyone else want to discuss Nielsen Ratings during reruns/summer shows/regular tv season? Found this interesting: For the week of May 25th reruns: 1. NCIS, 18.1, 12.463 2. The Mentalist, 8.0, 12.357 3. G. Strait Spec., 6.8, 10.628 4. CSI, 6.7, 9.976 5. Without a Trace (S), 6.6, 9.71 6. Without a Trace, 6.4, 9.57 7. NCIS-Thur, 6.3, 9.636 8. 60 Minutes, 5.9, 8.775 9. Criminal Minds, 5.8, 8.927 10. 2.5 Men, 5.7, 9.268 -------------------------------------------- 18.1 for a re-run of "NCIS" ? How do you like THEM apples #2? ;D 10 million more ^^......This just makes me wonder how well "NCIS" would do during regular tv season when it's not competing with reality tv shows. I bet it could reach up to 20+ million during regular tv season if it did not have to deal with reality tv(AI, DWTS, etc.). *Note: It also did pretty well on another Thurs' night rerun with "CSI". Also another note, "WAT" is up there too for CBS while "Cold Case" didn't make it. It's interesting that CBS chose "Cold Case" over "Without A Trace". Perhaps networks are learning from CW's mistake of cancelling "Veronica Mars"(hence their viewership is suffering)? It's not:More viewership = another season It's:Rabid fanbase = another season ;D Perhaps this is why we are seeing so many low LIVE 18-49 demographic series with highly loyal viewer fanbases renewed during the upfront upfront: "Friday Night Lights", "Dollhouse", "Better Off Ted", "Reaper" (in syndication), "Cold Case", and perhaps some more shows. I believe that the wise network presidents have learned to look beyond LIVE Nielsens to timeshifted DVR, Hulu and iTune viewership, or eventual DVD monies to come (the "Veronica Mars" DVDs did exceptionally well for Warner).

1. NCIS, 18.1, 12.463 2. The Mentalist, 8.0, 12.357
Total rating is 10 more but the total amount of viewers is minimum! It's only 0.106 so It's not that big difference... apart the fact that THE M is a new show. This second season will rock

LMAO NBC bombed at the Nielsen Ratings for summer repeats while CBS swept the nielsen ratings.....considering there's NOTHING good to watch on NBC anymore. They keep cancelling shows with potential like "Bionic Woman" and last year's cancellation of the "Black Donellys".
NBC's Ratings -- Lowest Since Early TV 28 May 2009 2:36 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing
It was the worst week ever during a regular season for NBC last week as its programs averaged just 4.4 million viewers in primetime, according to Nielsen Research. Indeed, as the Associated Press pointed out, no network has ever drawn so few viewers outside the "summer doldrums" of June, July, August and early September. NBC registered fewer viewers in August 2007, but it is likely that it had previously never drawn such a small audience since the early days of television, AP observed. NBC did face heavy competition from the likes of Fox's season-finale episodes of American Idol and ABC's Dancing With the Stars. But there was little to account for the network's tumble on other nights. It's Friday-night Howie Do It drew just 2.3 million viewers, and even its highly touted 30 Rock could attract no more than 2.8 million. Its highest-rated show was the aging Law & Order: SVU, which came in at No. 23 on the Nielsen list with 6.9 million viewers. By contrast, NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams averaged 7.4 million viewers for the week -- more than watched any NBC primetime show. For the week, Fox topped the list (thanks primarily to American Idol) with an average 5.9 rating and an 11 share. CBS placed second with a 5.7/10. ABC followed with a 4.7/8, while NBC trailed with a 3.0/5.

It should be noted, however, than NBC came back two weeks later to be right behind CBS with the finales of "Biggest Loser" and "SVU". That said, I think the only thing I watch on NBC is SVU, and the original Law and Order. I don't even watch local/national news there anymore. Also, you need to link to your articles.

SWEET!! Both of my summer shows, "Burn Notice" and "The Closer" are doing very well ;D. The Closer Premieres To 7.1 MillionBurn Notice: Avg viewers 5.992 million, 2.5 million 18-49 demographic The Closer: Avg. Viewers 7.1 million, 2.248 million 18-49 demographic No surprise there. "The Closer" has always been geared towards an older audience. It is a piece of art with its fantastic and witty writing that some people just don't get . "Burn Notice" is of course more of a fluff show like most USAnetwork shows are with the hot miami s3x scene, bombshell lady lover, and explosions and cool gadgets ;D. Both are very entertaining shows for the summer...better than repeats .....although I don't mind seeing the "NCIS" reruns.

I am thrilled that Burn Notice & The Closer are doing so well. I can't wait for Saving Grace to premiere tomorrow, it will be interesting to see the ratings. These shows are the perfect distraction until Cold Case premieres in September!

Agreed , but I don't watch "Saving Grace"....it's a very "gritty" show that I can't get into...like I saw a few episodes from season 1 and was like "WTF?" It's a bit too graphic for me..... =/ almost every scene Holly Hunter's character is just obscenely drunk, cussing, or nak3d.

I actually love Saving Grace. I don't even watch it like I watch Cold Case, it's like if I feel like watching TV, and "Oh, Saving Grace is on!" then I'll watch it.

Oh man "Nip Tuck" is ending because of it's numbers...only 3.4 million viewers for Season5 =/ "Nip Tuck" wraps after 100 episodesawww guess nobody cares about quality anymore? The Nielsen Media ratings need to change. It's just not a reliable source for network execs to factor their opinion in on whether or not to axe a show >.<. There's Itunes download now as well as TiVoing/DVRs and dvd sales, etc. I'd guess "Nip Tuck" will end with its dignity still intact though, the same can't be said for "CSI" =/. Interesting article about the TV industry needing some despearate revamping ;D TV business needs help, but not nearly as much as newspapers

Interesting article about the TV industry needing some despearate revamping ;D TV business needs help, but not nearly as much as newspapersPeople have been complaining for years that Nielsen ratings are not accurate -- and they're not. Unfortunately, a lot of good shows get the ax because the execs don't have the real data. One would think that after so many years of complaints, someone would have come up with a new system, but to no avail, because it's virtually impossible to record DVR results, online viewing, other recordings, etc. Nielsen only really records what people are watching when it first airs. Anyone wanna help me create a new system?
