Hello boys and girls! Hey, it's the Byrdman coming at you on this rocking Wednesday! I hope that you all are well, and that your midweeks are progressing smoothly. Well, I'm still on Cloud 9 today about the Cold Case renewal! Wooooo-hooooo! But I have to admit I was a bit shocked when I read about the upcoming year's schedule! They are moving us to 10 pm on Sunday nights! Ugh! "The Unit" always had troubles in that spot, and "Without a Trace" was on at that time before it, if memory serves. I think that they moved it out of that slot because of poor ratings too. I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks of it - I'm a little nervous myself.

Hey byrdman! ;D You know I guess the fans should be happy to just have a season 7. But I really feel, as I've felt all along, that Cold Case should air on CBS on Sunday nights at 8 pm. From the information I've seen of audience ratings, Cold Case fares better than The Amazing Race. I say "Give Lilly Back Her Original Time Slot!" Maybe we need to campaign for that.

You have an excellent idea Naj ^^ I am not american, but I am afraid that the new schedule penalize Cold Case, and give a good opportunity to CBS to stop the drama...

CC will complete this year the firstly decided number of seasons so maybe they just don't pay enough attention to it... Perhaps, from now they don't intend to discuss another renewal... I'm not American, too, so I have no idea how bad this move can be... (In fact, here, 10pm is a very casual and good time for a series, specially for a crime series - 9pm is more for family shows - and also we don't have series on Sundays, only movies, talk shows, talent shows, this kind... Totally different... )

Well, maybe this'll be a good thing. I don't know if Desperate Housewives still has the 9:00 spot on...whatever station airs it, but if it does, maybe people who are both DH fans and Cold Case fans will tune in after DH ends.

It's a lot more inconvenient for me to have it moved even LATER on Sunday night. It might affect the board in terms of Chat nights because if everyone has to DVR it and watch it later in the week, then it won't make sense to have chats on Mondays because no one will have watched it yet! But, I'm happy at least that it didn't get moved to Saturdays! CBS hasn't aired new content on Saturdays in awhile, and I thought maybe it was an ominous foreshadowing that they bumped "Harper's Island" to Saturdays recently. So I'm breathing a sigh of relief. On the bright side, Maybe CC will get EVEN NASTIER now that it's got the "late nite" slot. Remember when they bumped to an hour later at the beginning of Season 4? We got to see Lilly in boxer shorts cavorting with Joseph.

We got to see Lilly in boxer shorts cavorting with Joseph. Well, we can hope, can't we? ;D Seriously though, I'm not terribly concerned about this since it ended up getting delayed as often as not (stupid football!) Maybe in a later timeslot, this would be different. It's possible, as mentioned above, that being in a less competetive timeslot may help, as the women of Wysteria Lane have proven quite formidable. I'd actually be more interested in seeing how the presumably reduced budget affects the show. My guess would be to expect less exterior scenes if there's less money to spend on shooting on location in Philly. ("NYPD Blue" was forced to do the same towards the end with it's location shots in New York). Expensive episodes dealing with cases from way back (1910's through 1960's) with elaborate sets, costumes, props, and cars wouldn't be quite as common. Recent cases would probably be more frequent, which would also mean casting just one actor in a role instead of two. We'll see if they can still make it work with a tighter belt.

I'm not American, and I don't know if this move could be bad. I agree with leni: 10 pm is a good time for a crime series, and in Italy the episodes in this time slot has better ratings. Cold Case air at 9 pm on Saturday (bad day: people go out!), but we see two episodes: the first episode (at 9 pm) has usually half a million less viewers than the second one (at 9.50 - 10 pm). In fact on Saturday there are always strong variety shows, and movies for children and teenagers: probably when children go to bed, their parents prefere watching Cold Case... For example, on November 8 2008 went on air the episodes Slipping and Ghost of my child: Slipping had 2.610.000 viewers (10,72% of the viewers in that time slot), which increased until 3.316.000 with Ghost of my child (13,97%, which is very good). I don't know if this example based on Italian TV could be comparable with American TV

From a personal stand point I'm not bothered by it because I'll watch it no matter what. I don't have any qualms with watching the re-runs that air on TNT at 12am and 1am.
However, from a wider stand point I'm not that happy. If 'Three Rivers' isn't any good then people are going to change the station and they may not change it back for Cold Case.

Perhaps, " Three Rivers", might be cancelled ( Like a lot of new shows are) if the plot's boring or there's not even ratings. They could just switch CC back to 9pm. It's going to be a big rating drop if the game runs overttime, so I think they could have just left CC at it's usual time and put the new show at 10pm

I think this time slot might actually be better in someways. The later time slot will allow the writers more freedom and how the cases are played out.

So long as CBS has football, their series on Sunday nights will suffer. But, I wonder if pushing CC to 10 PM will be a good move, because with the average football delay being a half an hour to an hour, fans would be forced to stay up until 12 just to get the whole show in, if they have no means of taping it to watch later. That's late, for me, and for most who go to work/school. As for our European friends who are wondering, here's the things with the 10 PM timeslot: Overall, Americans have very early bed times compared to you guys. In many countries in Europe, it's customary for the day to start later than it does in the US, and to end later. Thus, while 10 PM is late for us, it isn't so much for you. Also, please keep in mind that there is no confirmed press release saying this is the last season. Obviously, you are entitled to your opinion, but please say that it is "probably" the last season. We do not want to be responsible for any false rumors.

I think if they put CC on during the weekdays, they might be able to draw in a younger audience. The 10pm slot isnt great, like everyone else had said with the games. Why not move reality to that time, and switch CC back to 8pm. I'd prefer the show to be on early than late.

Hi LII,
I think this is a tricky matter, especially with past performances of the shows in question. For some reason, CBS has relegated Cold Case to a later and then later slot. I'm not sure why this decision was made, but sports runovers will make any Sunday schedule chaotic. And even if CC was moved back to 8 on Sundays, there would still be runovers.
I guess moving the show to weekdays could make a decent upswing, but there are several powerhouses on several other networks during the weekdays as well, and I personally would not like to see what happened to "Without a Trace" happen to our show. The way they moved it from night to night to night throughout the week during its existence.
Reality is the viewing of choice from the younger audience, and in primetime, I think it will trump most scripted shows for now.

I think that it is really stupid!!!!! ...but we will see for a few months, it is good or bad decision!!!! for me it's not so late( I sleeps usually for 6 hours) but for others viewers it can be problem to watch CC(if someone goes to work or shool at early morning like me, at 6.30 am I must be at school )

The show might not get cancelled. It seems to be "Veronica Mars" all over again. Network renews series for one more season. Series doesn't do so hot in a new format. Series gets axed. Looks like CBS wants to kill "Cold Case" off . They just want to say to fans, "Hey, we've given this show 7 seasons to develop. It hasn't done that stellar." It wouldn't surprise me considering that Les Moovnes has his head so far up his arse.

I don't have a really big issue with the time slot move. I mean I stay up to watch Cold Case on TNT and they just started showing some at 11 p.m. Central time whereas they were showing them at 2 in the morning. I think most die hard CC fans will stay up that extra hour to watch and those that have DVR will most certainly have it programmed.
