Kathryn Morris warms up 'Cold Case'

Kathryn Morris, in gold flats, jeans and a Chanel-type jacket, strides across the retro-chic restaurant. She's polite but anxious about missing her plane.
Morris, star of CBS' "Cold Case," just left "Live With Regis and Kelly," where they surprised her with her high-school drama teacher, whom she credits with encouraging her career.
She glances over a menu, but nothing appeals, which helps explain how she maintains a size zero figure. On-screen, Morris has a translucent quality; she's beautiful, very fair and gives off a mysterious vibe because she harbors secrets.
Some of that changes in the two-part sixth-season finale airing on consecutive Sundays, May 3 and 10. Her character, Philadelphia Detective Lilly Rush, reveals more about herself while working on this case that hits home.
A female cadet in an all-male military academy was killed, and Rush relates because she's the only woman in her squad.
"It becomes very dangerous because someone wants her dead," Morris says. "It's a real departure episode because it goes into another realm, something we have never done before."
The drama, which weaves in music from the year of the crime to further the plot, relies exclusively on Pearl Jam for the finale. "It's one of my favorite bands and the soundtrack to Lilly's life," she says.
The other treat for Morris is that Makenna, 5, daughter of her beau, director David Barrett, plays Lilly as a child.
"She knows too much for her age," Morris, 40, says, visibly relaxing as she talks about Makenna. "The first day she said, 'You have to see my dressing room. It's the size of your bedroom.' "
