As soon as Gabriel had started to shoot, both Lilly and Scotty jumped out of the way. However it was then that Lilly had realized that her partner had been struck with a bullet. As he sank towards the floor in bloodied pain, Lilly then tried to get Gabriel to put down his weapon. When that didn’t work, and he fired another round of shots; she then fired back one of them striking his leg.
With him now disabled, Lilly immediately ran over to Scotty and saw that he been struck on the other side of his chest. She knew there wasn’t much time, but still needed a confession. However she thought quick and called for both backup and an ambulance. While waiting, Lilly applied pressure to his gaping wound. “Hang in there Scotty”, she breathed; still afraid of what her own fate might be. Although she had been shot before, the fear of getting shot again was still prominent in her mind. However Lilly remained strong, but it was clear that Scotty was losing a lot of blood.
Looking up, her breaths were quickening with fear; “Why did you shoot my partner, you think that your brother would want this for you”, she said. Inside of the bathroom, Gabriel cried softly while shaking with intense fear. He knew shooting both pops and Scotty was wrong, but now he was confused and scared. Gabriel then surrendered knowing that this was the right thing to do; but after Lilly had retrieved it, she then glanced down at Scotty. He needed help now, “Hey, you hear me”, remembering how that was once their secret code. As backup arrived, the paramedics set to work on Scotty; while another crew wheeled Gabriel out in a stretcher. However Lilly was concerned for her partner; who now looked worse than Jefferies did. She knew that he was alright, but still it was a bad day all around for everyone.
Even on the drive there, she found herself unable to pay attention; knowing that her partner had already lost conscious. Still, Lilly tried to hold herself together as the ambulance now pulled into the same hospital where Jefferies was.
While Scotty was rushing into trauma, she felt alone and unable to do anything. Just by standing there, Lilly tried to keep herself calm; but it was very oblivious that she needed support.
Shooting a young kid, Jefferies shooting, and other things were making the tears about the spring out from her eyes. Keeping them all in check but seeing Stillman entering the wing; he was just as worried as she was.
Touching her shoulder lightly, Stillman then drew in a breath, “Gabriel just confessed, it’s over”, his voice now quiet with sadness, “I’ll contact Scotty’s family”.
For awhile, she sat there hoping for a piece of good news to come float her way. However while waiting, Lilly pulled out gift that her father had given to her early on. Closing her eyes, she thought about her friendship with Scotty; and how he was like the brother that she had never had. Every memory brought forth more sadness.
As flashes appeared from early on, Lilly had wished she could have prevented her partner from being shot twice. Now as she sat there; now holding onto Scotty’s badge, everything now was hitting her full force.
However when a doctor came out, she then stood there, “Detective Valens is now in surgery, the bullet is lodged near his heart, there is some damage done to his vital organs. Right now it’s going to be awhile before you know anything”.
After hearing that, Lilly didn’t know what else to do at this point. Somehow she remained there in, just hoping that Scotty would make it. Not once did she dare cry, but instead kept on holding the pendent that her father had given to her.

As time started to slip on by, Lilly left the hospital; as sign of her running from her own past shooting. To this day, it still haunted her; but the nightmares had since ceased. She couldn’t dare see her partner; like that. She wanted to run to someone but found that there wasn’t any; well except her father. That came with the feelings of being abandoned, stemming from her own childhood.
Lilly knew that she was a child; but merely was woman approaching forty. Pushing people away, had only proved to provide more loneliness into her own life. Something had to change, as everything started to hit her full circle. However she didn’t know what do to, this wasn’t at all like her to cry.
Ending up back the interrogation room, was very typical of Lilly. Just as the door closed behind, Lilly then slid down the wall; clutching the pendent. While tears of sadness continued to stream downward, flashes of her own shooting, her mother and today’s events; played over and over. Lilly wanted it to stop but found that she couldn’t anymore.
She had never come to terms with her own shooting fully; or the fact that Scotty had once again saved her from yet another bullet; was plaguing. Lilly remembered how alone she felt, just lying there without anyone to love or care for her. Her shrink had once informed her that her dreams; were a way of getting her to think about her life.
Yes Lilly Rush was all alone, but loneliness was a choice; her choice. Was it now something she even had wanted? Everyone one who came into her life; was either pushed away or left. As her eyes then glanced down at the pendent, Lilly then thought about her father coming to see her earlier. The look in his eyes after he had said about wanting just to see her face; was something that provided a comfort that was longed for.
She did have someone looking out for her; but was Lilly fully ready to accept him back into her own life? It was her decision to find him; as another round of tears flowed out of her cobalt eyes. Then a dose of reality then snapped her emotions back into place.
Upon taking out Scotty’s badge, Lilly carefully studied it. She knew that he was always like a little brother to her; one that always looked out. Not many people in the world did, but it was because of him that she was still alive.
One by one, Lilly then drew in a deep breath but walking fast into the bathroom. Inside she washed her face; but didn’t dare go back to the hospital. Seeing Scotty would only remind her; of how she looked and felt like after the shooting.
That also applied early on with Jefferies, but avoiding it wasn’t simply the solution anymore. Lilly knew that she was emotionally stunted with a lot of problems; but still couldn’t even face her own mortality. With no other place to go, she now had found herself alone in the world.
Going home would add more loneliness, which Lilly wasn’t about to do. Back in the hospital, the doctors worked feverishly on Scotty; while each of their gloves glistened with his warm, crimson blood.
Outside Mike Valens stood there thinking about his little brother. He knew that Scotty had his back when the investigation of the boxing coach came up; but perhaps it was better that this guy had been put away. Just by standing there, Mike felt Scotty slipping away slowly from him.
Even as Jefferies rested in his hospital room, he also thought about Scotty. Though on the flipside, he was relieved that the case was now closed; it still didn’t make up for one of members of his squad getting shot. Beside him was Vera; whom was still snoring up a storm. Jefferies let that one slide, besides he was glad to have someone there after being shot twice.
With Gabriel now in custody, Stillman in the waiting, Kat asleep while holding her daughter in her arms; it had seemed as if Lilly was lost in the oceans of her own self. Somehow she ended up back at the hospital, knowing that Scotty needed her.
Once there, she didn’t go directly to where everyone else; but went into visit Jefferies instead. Inside he looked much well than before, “Any news on Scotty”, he asked. Lilly took a breath, “No, he’s still in surgery”, pausing to glance over at Vera, “Got him snoring like a pig over there”, which caused Jefferies to chuckle a bit.
“He’s fine, how you holding up”, came a question that she couldn’t answer. Being very typical of her, she then smiled before leaving his room.
While walking around the halls, Lilly’s mind was about to burst open. Upon receiving the news that several of Scotty’s organs were damaged; sent more waves of sadness through her. Just hearing the fact that he had lost a lot of blood; and was now in ICU; was too much for her to take.

There you go: a review :-)
I really enjoyed reading it and would like to see where you're going with it...
As for the grammar - I'm not a grammar buff but your story flow seems right to me.

As the minutes went on by, Lilly still couldn’t pull herself to see her partner. That’s when she had fled, and went home. Just as her front door shut, her body then slid down while her tears came spilling out. By now the man that she always thought of as brother; was now slipping slowly away in ICU.
He needed her by his side, but Lilly was weak. She couldn’t even face the facts and try to let what happened to her go.
Later on her front door opened, as Paul Cooper then slowly entered. He then saw a small figure lying on the couch. He had heard what had happened to her partner; and automatically knew that something wasn’t right yesterday.
Lilly seemed to be in a whole another world; but it probably was due to not having a parent that really cared in her life.
Sitting down softly, his hand gently touched the small of her back, “I’m sorry to hear about your partner”, as more tears continued to flow out of her eyes. It was there that she felt her father gently rubbing her back.
That in a way, brought upon that special kind of comfort that had been lost. Drawing in a small breath, Lilly let him comfort her. She needed him right now; knowing that she could no longer go through this alone.
“What happened”, he asked.
As another heartbeat of a breath was taken in, Lilly felt her strength slowly starting to return, “I shot a young kid Dad, he was the one who shot both the victim and Will”. Paul nodded softly, “You did what you had to do Lilly”.
“The kid started shooting, two hit Scotty”, as flashes of that played over and over again in her mind, “I saw myself the same way, afterwards”.
This new information was very new to Paul, “You were shot Lilly, when”, he asked now worried? Lilly was finding it now extremely hard to even speak about her own shooting, “ The day after Mom had died”, her voice now died for a second, “ Everyone got held hostage by the man who had murdered this girl’s family, I ended up in a room with him; just after my boss had gotten shot. I wanted him to kill me”.
Paul knew that it was grief that made Lilly say that, but knew that his daughter had been through so much in almost forty years of her own life.
“I kept on having these nightmares, people asking me if there was someone to call but there wasn’t. Felt so lost, it’s like I didn’t exist”, her eyes now opened, “I should have been there for mom, and not have let her die alone. I screwed up dad “.
He continued to rub her back, “No you didn’t Lilly, and I think it was best that you didn’t see your mother die. Are you still getting those nightmares”/
Lilly sniffled back several tears, “No but I can’t even bring myself to see Scotty. Couldn’t even do the same with Will; it’s like I’ve never gotten over it”.
Helping her up, Paul then brought Lilly into an embrace, “I’ve always loved you, just because I had left. Didn’t mean that I forgot or ever stopped thinking about you; you are my daughter”.
That brought very little comfort to her, but she tried to let him into her own life. He wasn’t a train wreck or an alcoholic; but was the way a father was supposed to be an act. While leaning against him, Lilly felt each intake of his breath. She now felt safe and loved with him.
“You need to see him, Lilly”, Paul then said, “It’s what friends do”.
She knew that he was right, “Scotty was the one who saved my life, always been like a brother to me”, knowing now how her own fear had kept her from being at her best friend’s side.
However Paul knew that there was more to Lilly’s inner emotions, than what was being lead on. Mostly half of it was due to his ex; Ellen Rush.
Now Lilly was much more fragile than when she was little, but Paul knew that he needed to be there for her, “I screw up everything, relationships; I always end up alone like this”.
Taking her hand into his, Lilly felt the trust slowly coming back, “Always thought I’d be a mom by now, but now I don’t think I will ever get that chance”.
It was there that Paul knew that she was at her all time low, “You can’t think that way Lilly, there’s more to happiness than just finding someone to love. Working all the time isn’t going to help with your own loneliness”.
That part of it was true, but as Lilly let her head rest down on his shoulder; she then felt herself gradually falling asleep. Getting up slowly, Paul then draped a blanket over her; before kissing her goodnight.
Back at the hospital, Mike Valens sat by his brother’s bedside; just hoping that Scotty would pull through. His heart had already stopped twice; but it was clear that he was going to need another operation to repair something.
The doctors wanted to wait until Scotty had awakened and gotten a bit stronger. For the time being, Mike continued sitting there thinking about how his little brother; always had tried to look out for him. However he also knew that the bullet had done a lot of damage but tried to think positive; as the sound of a heart monitor continued beeping away.
By morning, Lilly awoke with a tight knot in her stomach; but much stronger. Glancing over she now saw her own father asleep in the love seat; even after all these years she still loved him dearly. Upon getting up, she then draped a blanket around him; before scribbling a note.
Just as her footsteps entered the hospital, she then quickly tied up her hair into a ponytail; before walking firmly towards ICU.
With a quick flash of her badge, Lilly then took in a sharp breath but quickly held it in. There Scotty lay motionless; with various wires and an oxygen mask over his mouth. By all means he looked gone, but with courage she took his hand, “Hey you hear me”, she said softly, “Scotty please hang on”.

Just as the squad was moving onto yet another case, Lilly remained loyal to her partner. She couldn’t find enough motivation in herself to solve another case; right now Scotty needed her by his side. Though at the moment, his eyes remained closed.
His body was starting to heal but both his pressure and heart rate weren’t that great. As she had continued to sit there, Lilly felt unusually lethargic but had no idea why.
Right now, her mind wasn’t on herself. Although sleep sounded really good to her, she wasn’t going to just simply leave Scotty all alone. Somehow as day now turned into night, Lilly’s stomach growled louder; protesting for food.
Just by sitting there, she remembered the good times that she had with Scotty. Now it had seemed that she probably would never get another change to share another laugh with him. However with her hand still holding onto his, she barely budged then after another long growl, Lilly then got up, “Stay with us Scotty”, she whispered; while pausing to glance over at his heart monitor. Her eyes felt saddened, that he was now slowly starting to slip away from everyone. Though the doctors had been in and out; but then she saw his fingers lifting up slowly.
“Scotty”, Lilly said while taking his hand, “You hear me”?
No response, but then suddenly there was no other movement coming from his hand. Still it was a good thing to see. Just moments after a doctor came in, Lilly stood there outside feeling now extremely tired and hungry.
tbc..
On the walk home, she felt usually tired while still ignoring her stomach’s protesting. Once there Lilly was very surprised to see that her father was already there, “I didn’t think that you were still here in Philly”? Paul turned towards her, “I came back, didn’t want you to be alone like this. It’s not a good thing”, his voice still very much soft, and “How is he”? “The same”, came a sigh as Lilly sat down feeling now extremely hungry. She hated feeling that way but couldn’t bring herself to even eat. When Paul hears her stomach’s protests he couldn’t understand why she wasn’t eating, “You have to eat something, and it’s not good”.
“I’m fine”, came her typical excuse, “Just really been tired lately”, as her head leaned against the wall, “Been feeling like this for awhile”. Paul nodded, “Have you been to a doctor”, he asked concerned? Shaking her head no, Lilly knew it was attributed to her not eat, “I feel this way every time I don’t eat”. Taking in a short breath, she then sat down; trying hard to ignore the growls. Though it was hard, Lilly’s mind was still on Scotty; wishing that he would just wake up.
Somehow she couldn’t decide whether or not to sleep but Paul then handed her a warm cup of tea. His smile was soft but it told Lilly that he still loved her; regardless of what had happened long ago. As the warm liquid descended down her throat; Lilly felt sleepy.
“So you’ve been seeing anyone lately”, he asked wanting to know more about her. Still the two felt like complete strangers after all these years. Drawing in a breath, Lilly still had felt saddened that Saccardo had left to go undercover, “I was dating this narcotics cop, until he went undercover”. Paul nodded, “You still love him, and I can sense that. It’s hard to love someone that’s so far away”, knowing that he also had loved someone as well, “Hopefully he will come back, I want to see you happy Lilly. It’s very important to me”.
That that said, Lilly took in another breath, “I wouldn’t count on that, I don’t have much luck with love”, she replied sadly, “Some people have it, and some people don’t”. Leaning her back against the plush cushions, both her and Paul spoke some more.
In the middle of it, she found herself rushing fast into the bathroom; before throwing up miserably. What was worse was the fact that her stomach was so practically empty; as Lilly then sat down on the cool bathroom floor. She knew this was symptom of stress, but just moments after washing up; Lilly emerged to find her father looking at her worried, “ You alright”? “Yeah, just stress you know. Will in the hospital then Scotty getting shot”, but somehow she ended up feeling incredibly woozy as Paul they caught her. He knows knew that something else was wrong, “Are you”, he then started to ask?
Shooting him a look, Paul then left knowing the answer wasn’t her having a baby. Plus the fact, Lilly knew all too well that she wasn’t.
As time continued to tick on by, the night before day again; this time Lilly was back at work. With each footstep pounding court; Lilly was then called up to take a stand. As she then recited what had happened, she couldn’t stop thinking about what she had done to Gabriel; those he was just 12 years old; Lilly knew she had shot a kid. Just as Gabriel’s lawyer questioned her about other things, Lilly’s temper flared, “I had to; he was shooting at us and wounded my partner. Gabriel hurt two cops and killed a store owner”, she yelled so that everyone in the courtroom heard her.
After everyone had been adjourned, Lilly was in a foul mood; and quickly rushed back to headquarters. She ignored any conversation that people were having about both Jefferies and Scotty. As usual Lilly buried herself in the case completely.
Typical but it was better than the alternative; but when Stillman caught sight of her; he already heard about her outburst in court. Just moments after calling her into his office, he could see that everything was affecting Lilly to no end.
“Go home Lil, you can’t be here”, his voice was quiet but concerned. This had Lilly taken aback, “What Boss, I can’t”. Stillman took off his glasses, “You need some time Lil, and I’m not punishing you. It’s best if you just stay home”. This wasn’t certainly helping her mood, “I have a case to solve boss”, knowing that she had no place being at home. Plus what the hell was she supposed to do, without work it was going to drive Lilly insane.
