This is a 2004 case. The victim is a Dr. Julie Ramirez, who is a psychiatrist working with schizophrenics. This is an interesting looking case for a number of reasons:
We see flashbacks from the POV of one of her patients (think A Beautiful Mind).
There's some continuity between this episode and the previous one, Officer Down. The killer from that episode is having a preliminary hearing in the beginning of this one. ADA Bell (from Street Money) is prosecuting.
George Marks gets a brief mention.
Oh yeah, and the music is all John Lennon. Julie used his music to try to treat her patients.
Also, for anyone concerned, Jeffries is back on duty by the end of the episode.

One wonders if we'll actually see the doer again. Unless they were acquaintances of one of the regulars, characters who are related to a case rarely return (few exceptions include James Hogan and Timmy from "Schadenfreude").
As far as I know, no murderers other that George Marks have been seen again after being arrested. It would be intertesting if that changed.

No, the person who confessed is going to be shown being tried in court; before being sent off to jail in this episode. James Hogan from " Sherry Darling", was shown since he had new information that reopened that case from " Kesington", and Timmy wasn't a doer just an innocent bystander

Even before you mentioned John Lennon's music being featured throughout, the episode title was a big clue. Mind Games is one of his more recognizable songs.

Ooh, I had a feeling Instant Karma was going to be featured in the episode, but I didn't know about Watching The Wheels. Here's hoping we hear Mind Games, too!
