:)STORY LINE: When POPS WALTERS is shot to death while behind the counter of his neighborhood store, and Jeffries takes two in the back while checking it out, the Cold Case squad swings into action, but this time the case is red-hot -- and so are the tempers of the detectives...
POPS WALTERS] In his 70s, African-American, Pops runs a corner store in North Philly, and has been the proud owner of the neighborhood's nerve center for the last 40 years. A tough-minded old man who has stood up to everything with just his will and his ethics, he balks at getting a loaded weapon to protect himself from a deteriorating neighborhood. A moral force for good, who gave Jeffries an attitude adjustment when he was 15 years old, he's currently caught in disputes with both Jimmy Valentine, a protege who thinks that Pops needs a gun to protect himself, and Francisco Ariza, a Dominican baby gangster who sees Pops as a threat to his protection racket. Pops winds up shot to death by person or persons unknown...GUEST STAR (1)
[VALENTINE] 25 years old, a young, intense, imposing African-American man, Valentine is a prime suspect in the murder of Pops Walters. A close friend of Pops, he has been quarreling with Pops, urging the old man to get himself a gun -- and in fact, has "borrowed" money from the register to buy an illegal weapon -- money that Jeffries was returning to Pops at the moment of his shooting. Boiling mad that his mentor has been killed, Valentine wrongly deduces that Francisco Ariza is the killer, and he opts to take justice into his own hands -- ruining his life and taking Francisco's at the same time...GUEST STAR (23)
[FRANCISCO ARIZA] 21 years old, a stone cold thug, he's a Dominican wannabe gangster who's attempting to run a protection racket in north Philly, and foolishly regards Pops as easy pickings. Having made a spectacle of himself by publicly trying to shake down the old man, Francisco is the prime suspect when Pops is shot to death, and he flees one step ahead of the law. But in fact, Francisco is innocent of the crime; in fact, he lost face in front of Pops and his hero-worshipping younger brother killed the old man...GUEST STAR (27)
[GABRIEL ARIZA] 14 years old, this scrawny Dominican boy in a torn Northface jacket is Francisco's younger brother, and he thinks the world of the tough, ruthless Francisco. Pressured by the cops to tell what he knows about Francisco's efforts to steamroll Pops into coughing up "fitty" dollars a week, Gabriel insists that Pops got what he deserved. But in fact, Gabriel killed the old man for having treated his brother with shameless disrespect, and shot Jeffries in a fit of panic...GUEST STAR (34)
[DETECTIVE PETE MCGINLEY] In his 30s, dressed in casual clothes, with his badge around his neck, McGinley is an Internal Affairs detective, and he was the first cop on the scene after Vera called for back-up. In fact, McGinley had Jeffries under surveillance, and suspected him of taking a cash pay-off from Valentine -- a charge that soon proves baseless. After offering to help work the case, he's brusquely ordered to get lost by Stillman.sptv050769..GUEST STAR (7)

[OFFICER LENNOX] A rookie uniformed police officer in his 20s, he is at the scene of the double shooting, and is overwhelmed by the busy crime scene, but gives a report on Jeffries' condition to Rush.
