Casting call for this episode, from Spoiler blog

She gave up so much -- married young to Marty to make things easier for her and Ed. Conspirator, pushes husband to kill Ed for money...GUEST STAR
[MARTY BAYER] 50, Hardware store owner, treated Ed like a little brother. Blue collar. Also feels entitled to Ed's money, ultimately does Pam's bidding, dirty work. Killer...GUEST STAR
[GEORGE SWEENEY] 28, mechanic, Ed's lanky, better-looking buddy. Bit more clear-headed than Ed... GUEST STAR
[MIKE DUBINSKI] 58, Ed and Pam's ex-con father. Grizzled, hardened by the road, prison. Admitted terrible father. Made a lifetime of mistakes, lives with it. Wisdom of a crook..sptv050769 .GUEST STAR

[SHELLY REID] 26, works the counter at the Wawa. Plain but sweet. Going to night school to become a vet...GUEST STAR
[WALT PETTIJOHN] 50s, overwhelmed line detective who brings case in to us. Savvy, seasoned and cynical. Good cop, go for character...GUEST STAR
[ROGER WEAVER] 50s, money manager. Appears to be button-down conservative financial planner. Turns out to be opportunistic crook who targets naive lottery winners...GUEST STAR

The lack of two people being listed for some characters, and the age difference between the victim (at time of death) and his older sister (which I assume is her age now) I'd guess it is a case from the last 10 years. Let's say 2000.

Well, we don't really know much about this episode yet... I don't think it depends on the year, a good story is a good story whether it's set in the 20s or the 80s.

I like older cases too but sometimes recent cases are extremely good(The Road)

Well, we don't really know much about this episode yet... I don't think it depends on the year, a good story is a good story whether it's set in the 20s or the 80s. That's true. e.g. Fly Away was only 2 years old, but that was one of the show's best ever episodes. I think people just get sick of it when the cases are constantly recent as then it starts to take away from the show.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe the actual year for this one is 2007.

I think people just get sick of it when the cases are constantly recent as then it starts to take away from the show. It also depends on how they produce the flashback scenes. Other than the music, if it doesnt feel like it's in the time era..its sort of pointless to me but alot of the times the story itself is good that it can be overlooked. Which is why I don't care so much if it's a recent case. Judging from the past seasons and now, they seem to do a pretty good job of depicting the 70's and early 80's. Can't really say about the previous decades. The 80's and early 90's..ugh..theyre better off making it a recent case. It's embarassing. I do miss the first season..the whole production in of itself was pretty good..seems like little by little theyve been slacking off. I havent been too disappointed this season so far.

Thanks, L2. Whoever put that release together really needs to check actor's names though. It's "Shelly Reid: Mary Elizabeth Ellis", not "Shelly Reid Mary: Elizabeth Ellis", and Pam Bayer is played by Sylva Kelegian (note the missing "I" in the name), not Sylvia Kelegian.
Zack Ward, if you've seen him, is not what I pictured Ed looking like at all. Episode still looks promising though.
Here's an interesting tidbit I got from IMDB: Guest star Michael Rothhaar is the father of Will Rothhaar. who played Neal, one of the shooters, in "Rampage".
