Ok... Well I just come to finish the petition (or rather I should say a letter ^^) in French and I am going to try to translate it as quickly as possible. As soon as it will be ready, I shall post it !

I'm shocked about this possibility. I actually read about it in a Brazilian newspaper and came here hoping they were just badly informed, and sadly I found this topic. Even if the cut in the costs save the show it's really bad because it means the production of the episodes would not be same.
How effective a petition like this would be? Anyone knows about a show that was actually saved by a petition??

Star Trek: The originals series was probably safed by a letter-writing campaign of fans, at least they got a third season. Though should be careful, no one truly can (or want to) tell how much of an influence the campaign actually had, the producers had a huge interest in keeping the show running two, it's part of the myth of Star Trek. Another show coming to mind sort of safed by fans is Jericho. They got some attention with their "Nuts!" campaign and CBS ordered seven more episode, but then the show got cancelled. Don't get me wrong, don't want to crush hopes, shouldn't give up on the show without a fight. A petition might be at least helpful to gather more people to start a letter-campaign or more. Time is a factor though. If they're not sure yet, it's easier to get listners. Once they've made up their minds and have their reasons settled, chance will be slim.

Hi Tati, Nice to see you around recently on the boards! TVFan "might" say that a show could be saved by a petition as Veronica Mars was. (hope she stops by with her take on this) . I'd say for fans not to wait until a cancellation is announced but to act now.... before it is announced. I'm shocked about this possibility. Hey !
Sorry to be a little bit long, but the translation of a petition of French towards English is not my strong point...That is what my letter would look (at present, I reshape it with a friend so that it is completed, but lassz I your comments, so that I hold count) :
It’s with a big consternation that we have just learnt that CBS would to stop definively stop Cold Case, advancing that « the cop show would post no more audiences justifiions its cost production ».
That’s why, the undersigned, fans from (Quote the name of the web anglophones and francophones sites) request CBS not stop Cold Case inso rough a way, and it for several reasons :
1°) Cold Case is very appreciate and approved by a large majority of persons who are living in different countries where the drama is diffused. Concerning the french people, the show does not stop improving with years and succeeds in " approaching sensitive subjects such as the war in Iraq, the religion or the infanticide (…) the detention deprived of firearms, the racism, the impunity in the 50s of the conjugal violence " and a particular lighting of which the originality of the stories " bring over precise periods of the history of the United States ".
2 °) The show receives excellent criticisms of the various media (cultural press, TV program, internet, etc.)
So for France 2, one of the public channel which is diffusing Cold Case - as well as Without a Trace, too threatened - the stop of the drama could have big repercussions, because the French channel realizes its best audiences (approximately 28 % of market shares for the 4th season). As example, Cold Case takes place in the sixth rank among twenty better audiences of France 2 and France 3 between December 31st, 2007 and December 28st, 2008.
3°) Cold Case took away numerous rewards since its creation : the ASCAP Award of the best music of television series in 2004 and 2005, the Image Award of the best director of Drama in 2005, the GLAAD media Award of the best episode in 2006, and an appointment in Emmy Awards in 2005.
Besides, Cold Case also sees awarding prizes, through magazines TV. As example, the french magazine "Télé deux semaines" attributed the prize of the best actress to Kathryn Morris for her performance of Lilly Rush during Grand Prix 2009 which it had organized, and whose jury consisted of experts, of journalists of the drafting(editorial staff) as well as of Internet users.
4°) Finally, if Cold Case became the series which we know today, it’s thanks to a tremendous teamwork. If you are deleting this drama, you scoff not only at the scriptwriters for the quality of their story, but also the actors and the other persons who put a lot profoundly so that this show Works.
Please, don’t miss us a respect by deleting Cold Case in so rough a way! If Cold Case had to come to an end all the same, we ask you to realize a 7th season which could enclose this formidable series which will have made us vibrate during long years, and to propose us the end deserving of this name.
Thanks for your attention to our requests.
Sincerely, .

Thankyou sydg! I can't say if your letter is correct, but it's very interesting. I've got only some perplexities. For the moment it's only a rumor: we don't know exactly what CBS would do or not. Why only anglophones and francophones? I think it would be better indicate that we are fans from everywere: it would have more impact (if there will be a petition, I will circulate it on italian sites, for example). I perfectly agree! I said the same thing in a italian forum: Cold Case is maybe the best show to undesrstand America (really: it's less "American" than other shows, but it delves into America more than others). But this thing concern in particular not-American fans, so this can't be the first point. I don't think CBS cares about how much foreign channels like France2 or Rai Due take benefits from Cold Case. I think your letter could be a good point to start writing the petition, but it would be less..."foreign point of view". And insist more about ratings and economic things. This is only my opinion. Anyway: good job!

Wow, this is shocking and terrible. Of course, it is just a rumor at this point and even the rumor says that execs are considering canceling the two shows in a cost-cutting effort. While I don't think we need to panic yet, I do think that we need to be diligent. It never hurts to write a letter to CBS letting them know how much you enjoy the show and how you want to see it return for another season.
To answer the petition question, I don't know of any shows that have been saved by a petition alone. It usually requires a crafty campaign coordinated by the fans. I've taken part in several -- some successful and some not. Jericho fans were able to save their show (albeit, for one extra season), Veronica Mars fans were able to save the show for an extra season and we can't forget the shows JAG and Scrubs, which jumped from one network to the next when the original net canceled them (although, it should be noted that this is very much the exception and NOT the rule). Bottom line, if we want to save Cold Case, then we have to come up with a smart, clever campaign and we need to take it the full net. We have to have the full fan base's support or any effort will fall short.
So, keep your eyes and ears open for any updates on the future of CC. We certainly can't take any cancellation lying down.

The question of Cold Case being able to be released on DVD being cited as reason for cancellation is... odd. Yes, I know acquiring the music rights might be a monumental task, but there is a precedent.
For a long, LONG while fans of Miami Vice clamored for a DVD release, but music rights held it up. It was eventually straightened out and is now available.
So if Miami Vice could finally do it, why ot Cold Case?

It's still music rights, it's very hard to get that right now. Plus if this show is indeed being cancelled due to economic reasons, I doubt any chance of a DVD would be coming out anytime soon. It's unrealistic at this point, due to money and other reasons

The music rights thing gets me, because I know of another show that uses popular rock music, and so far three seasons of it are out now. Now, each season does cost $50 (unless you get on sale, but I digress.)
I guess the downfall was CC using a song or songs by Michael Jackson, and other artists who have ridiculously high royalty fees.
With that said, I hope this isn't true. I don't want them to remove the show for some stupid reality show, or another comedy, or the latest CSI installment 'CSI: Philadelphia' (hurh hurh)
Seriously, that and Heroes are the only two shows I watch.

I think some of you need to get a bit of perspective (no offence), and look past the fact that you're a fan. For a show to run 6 seasons is excellent, when you weigh up the amount of shows that last maybe 1 season (not even) and the shows like Law and Order which run for 10 (which are quite rare), then CC has had a great run.
However, I actually am not sure I'd be overly pleased if CC was sacked in favour of WaT. WaT was an excellent show but I really don't think it even airs here anymore, and personally for me, the whole premise of WaT has been wearing thin on me for sometime. They seem to have got sucked into a lot of TV soapy bullsh1t.

Hi guys and girls !
I've reading a new rumor on an other web site...Apparently Lilly will be killed at the end of the season. Do you heard this rumor ?
Ps : For the petition, I need to know some websites concerning Cold Case, which are not American and French. Do you know for exemple deutsh or italian CC websites ?

Hi guys and girls ! I've reading a new rumor on an other web site...Apparently Lilly will be killed at the end of the season. Do you heard this rumor ? No! In Italian: www.coldcaseitalia.net. Send an email to the webmiss to involve the site; there is also a thread in the forum about that. In German: www.coldcaseworld.de. And...I agree with InsideR: Say, have you heard the internet buzz that Cold Case is "on the bubble"? That means iffy about returning next season. A little hard to believe considering that show usually is in the Top 20, but CBS has never been happy with the fact that it thinks the audience is "too old". If you care about the show coming back next year, I'd start sharpening your virtual pencils for a letter writing campaign to Les Moonves (head of CBS). Dedicated fans have saved many shows in the past.
