The road to stardom

Brennan Elliott is quickly becoming the heartthrob of primetime.
The 33-year-old Calgary-raised actor’s good looks have landed him jobs on some of TV’s hottest shows opposite the small screen’s sexiest leading ladies.
He swept Lilly Rush (Kathryn Morris) off her feet as the cool biker Ray on Cold Case and, as Ben, made Agent Diana Skouris (Jacqueline McKenzie) melt, on The 4400.
Now, Elliott is taking on the role of T.K. — the love interest of Amanda Detmer’s married character Deena Greco — on ABC’s What About Brian.
“I play this rich, 30-year-old guy who has more money than he knows what to do with, but he’s trying to find love. I think there is some of that in me,” Elliott says from his home in L.A.
“I am at a point where the career is great, the finances are there, I love what I do and I couldn’t be happier. But how do you share that with somebody?”
While Elliott prefers to keep his private life private, he says his current relationship with “somebody who is visible” in the industry helped him relate to T.K.
“I have always been a bit of an actor first and personal life second kind of guy, so I can relate,” he adds.
While the affair between T.K. and Deena may be short-lived (Elliott has signed on for just four episodes), there are no shortage of roles for attractive, talented men.
“I am getting offers for jobs and really having a lot of heat, but it’s taken me 10 years to get to that point,” Elliott says, adding he expects to have his own sitcom and a film career soon.
“I am at a point now where fame is inevitable — the status of being in A-list movies and having my own show is happening.”
Elliott has certainly come a long way from growing up in N.E. Calgary. He says one of his most vivid memories is telling his buddies, 15 years ago, he wanted to move to Hollywood.
“They looked at me like I was speaking another language. It was like, ‘Are you an idiot? You can’t even work in the States?’ ”
While it did seem like a difficult dream to achieve, Elliott knew he could do it. So, after studying acting at the University of Calgary, he attended the prestigious Vancouver Studio 58 before landing his first paying job on the TV series Madison.
“Every actor, on some level, comes to the business because of the need for approval and attention, but that’s not my main purpose.
“I want those things, of course, but the only way you can achieve that is to really have a passion for the process — the journey.”
Elliott says, while he’s learned from all his professional experiences, he is most proud of playing Todd Beamer in A&E’s Flight 93.
“Until you live here and you see how painful that experience was to the culture here, you don’t really understand what it meant to Americans,” he says.
“A lot of the families didn’t want a lot to do with it (Flight 93) because they saw it as Hollywood glorifying 9/11, but we were not trying to do that.
“We wanted to do it honesty and I think we did.”
Elliott’s first appearance on What About Brian airs Dec. 4 at 11 p.m. on ABC.
