I think Shore Leave could have been based on the real life Cold Case of Richard Colvin Cox who disappeared in January 1950
There are obvious differences between the real life case and the episode... But still there is the military stuff, that the years were almost the same and that the real life case has not been solved except for a book that was written that someone tried to investigate about what happened
