Someone on another board posted an article and gave the thread the title "Forest Whitaker on Cold Case". It turned out, however that the article actually said he would be doing a guest stint on "ER" and the only CC connection was a passing mentioned that his "Shield" co-star Kenneth Johnson would be continuing his role as Joseph on CC (which we already knew).
It got me thinking though: how many "name" actors have actually appeared on the show over the years? Ones that come to mind include Chris Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Peter Graves (just like on the "Law & Order" shows, it seems the name actor usually plays the killer).
Any others?

Peter Graves and Barry Bostwick have been on. Chris Sarandon isn't really as big of a name to be considered but we can count him. The episode "Beautiful Little Fool" has Meredith Baxter Birney who played Lily's mother was famous for her role on "Family Ties" and numerous made-for-TV movies. Also in that episode was June Lockheart who was famous from "Lassie" and "Lost in Space". There have been many other recognizeable faces from the past that weren't as well known. Barry Bostwick was the first famous name to be given publicity in a preview in the second season. But for the most part, there haven't been many. I'll assume they'll get a big name for someone to play Lily's father and her ex-fiancee Patrick.

I dunno. I think anyone who saw "The Princess Bride" probably recognized Chris Sarandon.
I remembered Meredith Baxter not long after I made this post and wasn't sure to include June Lockhart or not.
Whether Lilly's dad or her ex get the star treatment remains to be seen though they do typically cast name actors to play parents on shows, and not just on comedies but on dramas as well. (i.e. Martin Landau on "Without a Trace", Mia Farrow on "Third Watch").
