Some of you, I've already told this to, but I attended the annual comic-con in my city this weekend and got a chance to meet an actor who's actually been on "Cold Case". Justin Hartley was there because of his role as the Green Arrow on "Smallville", but the rest of us know him as Mike Delaney, the unrepentant rapist/victim from the episode "Justice".
Sorry to let some people down, but it turns out I missed the Q&A he did. It's not MY fault really. Apparently Lou Ferrigno (the Incredible Hulk) wanted to catch an early flight outta there, so some people's panels got bumped up and by the time I showed up, thinking I had an hour to spare, it was already over.
That being said, the day wasn't a total loss. All the guests signed autographs so I did get one from Justin. I mentioned I hadn't really seen much of "Smallville", but I loved "Cold Case".
Now at the risk of deflating people further, I have to be honest and say he didn't have much to say about the gig other than "oh yeah, that was about a year ago" and "yeah, I played the badguy". That's not to say he wasn't nice but I don't think the role, honestly, was too memorable for him.
The reason, I wonder, might have been the little girl of no more than four or five sitting next to him at the table (she's the blurry hand with the balloon hat between us; the head of hair, I assume was her mother). I can understand if he didn't want to go into detail about how her daddy played a rapist who meets a violent end with her sitting right there. (I think it's safe to say she hasn't seen the episode). It's equally possible that role itself could have been a little difficult for him, having a young daughter of his own.
Now aside from the mild disappointment of missing the panel, the weekend was pretty fun. I'm looking forward to next year already. I've had the chance to talk to various working actors at conventions and on movie sets and while Justin was the first CC actor I met in person, I have a feeling he won't be the last.
(Sorry about my lack of smile. I'm not very photogenic )
