I'm not planning to do a fancy poll or anything like Naj is (mostly because I'm not that cool), but I'm just curious which characters, on any show, have inspired some serious hatred?
The two that spring to mind for me are Izzie Stevens ("Grey's Anatomy") and Peter Griffin ("Family Guy"). Any others?

I'm (seriously) curious, though, should we name characters that we don't like, or characters that we love to hate?

Heh. I figure whatever floats your boat. Those two are characters I seriously dislike, but if you've got some you love to hate, go ahead and post 'em!

Someone I love to hate is Admiral Cain from Battlestar Galactica. *Small spoiler for earlier seasons, if you're trying to stay pure* The way that she wipes out the entirety of her portion of the human fleet to benefit the Pegasus made me want to hate her, but you just couldn't because she was doing what she thought was right. It also turned out that she had been involved with the Six on her ship, before she found out she was a Cylon, which only endeared her in my heart... but she also treated Gina poorly and allowed her to be assaulted when she found out who she was. Maybe I'm getting more into "hate to love" here...

1. Faith (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). 2. Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). 3. Aeryn Sun (Farscape). 4. Rose Tyler (Doctor Who). 5. Lilly Rush (Cold Case). I know the latter is going to leave the Lilly fans baying for my blood, so I should probably elaborate on that one. Problem is, I never really found any reason to invest myself in Lilly Rush as a character - this is no discredit to the writing or the acting, it's just my opinion. Her backstory annoys me, because I've seen the 'heroine with tragic upbringing makes good' angle way too many times, and it always manages to annoy the hell out of me... and her present existence, unfortunately, is in a team wherein I personally feel that all the other members are infinitely more interesting than she is. Which, of course, couples with the fact that she's the protagonist to irritate me all the more, because she gets airtime I'd sell my soul to see delegated among the others. If it helps stop the Lilly fans trying to get my ass kicked, though... I had the exact same issue with Jane Eyre.

hmm....this one is hard =/....I don't really have a lot of characters to hate. I'll have to think about this.... 1. Meredith Grey from "Grey's Anatomy"(I actually hate the whole show after season 3, but she's grown to become too much of a whiner.) 2. Rose Tyler from "Doctor Who"(I find her quite annoying and the whole "shipping" thing.) 3. Sara Sidle from "CSI"(I thought the actress's acting was a bit unbelievable and annoying, plus with the whole "shipping" thing too.) 4. Catherine Willows from "CSI"(I used to like her, but lately the writers made her to be such a b!tch.) 5. Kat Miller from "Cold Case"(I honestly don't care about this character at all. I'd rather it would still be a one woman show in a man's world. It gives Lilly more screen time .) hmmmm....and #6.......umm.....let's see.....*tries to think of other shows I watch*..... 6. Myles from "Sue Thomas: FBeye"(the character was such a j@ckass in that show towards Sue. I kept hoping he would get killed off, but he only "almost" got transferred.)

You don't like Jane Eyre!? Just kidding you there. I gotta put my mind on people I hate, so I'll post them later.

1. Meredith Grey (Grey's Anatomy). I liked her for maybe one or two episodes, then her whining got too much to handle. I hate that she's the main character, b/c I'd love for her to leave. 2. Hollis Mann (NCIS). I could not stand her, I was so happy when she left. I hated the idea of her and Gibbs, he could do so much better. 3. Edie Britt (Desperate Housewives). She shouldn't have come back in season 5. She left, I was happy, then she came back with a crazy husband.
There's more, but I'd have to think a/b it some more.

The only ones that come to mind for me are Ross Gellar (Friends) and Kelly Taylor (original BH 90210). I'm sure there are others... but I don't watch too much scripted tv these days.
Peter Griffin might actually be on that list if not for his awesome rendition of "Rock Lobster," and the fact that he is partially responsible for the existence of Stewie.
