Hello boys and girls! Well, I finally got my two Cold Case cd scores in the mail....wow! I was so impressed! I'm still listening to it as I type. It is so cool! I just wanted to tell everyone on this board that it is worth the purchase! I still think it is so cool that Michael Levine came here and got our input into this album! Thank you, Michael! And thank you to everyone who reviewed this wonderful cd in this thread! Naj, Irishkale, and everyone else too! You guys were totally correct. Again, I would recommend this slbum to everyone here! Please get it, I promise you will not be disappointed! Take care, and have a rocking day, boys and girls!

No problem, RichE! And yes, I'm quite certain you will enjoy it too. Say RichE, were you a fan of the show during Seasons 1-4? Just curious. I became a fan into Season 2 - that beautiful girl I saw on that commercial just drew me in, you know? (KM)

Say RichE, were you a fan of the show during Seasons 1-4? I've been watching CC since it first started airing in the UK (6 months after it started in the US). I saw trailers for the show before it started and wasn't too certain about watching it. Did I really want to add another show to the too many I was watching already? I decided I would watch it but then managed to forget about the first episode (it was a long time until I saw it) and missed the start of the 2nd. Like you, it was that beautiful girl that drew me in. I doubt I would have started watching it without her. I didn't know KM before CC so I've had a lot fun catching up.

I got my CD yesterday ;D Naj and CCFan get name checked I've only managed to listen to it once so far. Not being someone that really picks out the soundtrack on CC (or other shows, movies etc.) I can't claim to recognise it all. I often find with albums I need a few listens through to distinguish tracks. So far so good though. My one complaint would be the brevity of many tracks. Just when your getting into the swing of it there's a rapid fade. I don't like tracks fading. I realise that this is in the nature of soundtrack music though. You can't write it to fit an exact length of scene, the scene may be edited different later etc. It's on my iPod (iTunes found the album art) so it's always with me. Which leads me to my 2nd complaint. Why is this not a 12" gatefold LP? Big Lilly pics! Hopefully there'll be a next time, and Look Again members get a chance to contribute their thoughts to a similar project. Perhaps we could add a vote for pictures to include? ;D

Yes, I was totally caught off on that. I just expected the LA mention. That was very nice of Michael to do that. Two that come to mind to me are: Sister Vivian's Flashback which is tied with a few others as my # 1 favs. And Gwen and Rush. However I feel the tracks are arranged in such a manner that the next track works well and I don't notice the shortness of the previous track as much.

Got my copy. Finally, yeah. ;D That was nearly like early Christmas. Too bad can't take an extra day off to enjoy it as much as I would like to right now, but this weekend there will be time.

There might be people waiting for this, my review of the Cold Case score CD ... Listening to the score right now, of course not the first time this weekend. I would love this CD even if I wouldn't be a fan of Cold Case. One of the things that got me hooked to Cold Case in the first place though was actually the music, the use of songs to mirror a time period as much as the score music. Both make this show a special show. I hadn't really heard of Michael A. Levine before, though I've heard his music, just hadn't quite realized it was his work - namely the piece "The Killing" from the movie score "Veronica Guerin". Yep, executive producer John Littman is right : "No one does death better than Michael Levine" (what a strange compliment though). I've recently rewatched the first three episodes of season 1, after I've heard the CD the first time, and I was even more impressed, how much the music of Michael is part of creating a unique tone for Cold Case, it has been from the start. You have the pieces giving you a sense of continuity (listen to " Detective's Reprise", you should notice, what I mean, but it's there in other pieces too) and the unique themes of the episodes, giving the victime a voice. I have favourites, have to admit they already were before this CD was put together. " The Professor" is a beautiful piece of music, remembering the killing scene in the episode "Hubris" though it gives me the creep, one of the most cruel murders on Cold Case IMO, in special way a cold blooded murder - the music is like a counterpoint to it, emotional, lovely even peaceful at the beginning, turning into a dramatic fight for life and give an echo of the now dying lovelyness at the end. Or " Sadie's Blues" - it kinda breakes my heart listening to it, every single time, as does " Forever Blue". Love destroyed by intolerance and hate of others, that is heart breaking., and the music tells that story on its own. And then there is " Carl's Recollection" - the piece I became fully aware of the score the first time, it's unsettling to watch as it is unsettling to hear, feeling a desperate helplessness, you want to stop it but you can't. The more I listen to this CD the more I fall in love with every single piece on it though. " Saving Sammy" is such a good catch of perceiving the world in a different, kind of distorted way. " Rush and Georg" evokes the creepiness of the relation again, " Yo, Adrain" is a moment of sad triumph, and not to forget Look Again's choice of favorites ... Yep, I could go on, I guess. Right now " Park" is filling my ears, do remember a scene, where it was used (wanna guess?), but at the same time its reminding me a bit of another one of my fave tv soundtracks (Bear McCreary's work for Battlestar Galactica), and I like that, doesn't make Michael's music any less original. I'm sure, there will be still more for me to discover on this CD - as on the running show. Thanks to Michael for his music and for this great compilation of it on this CD! It's a good repesentation of what he is doing for Cold Case.

What a wonderful review, myril! I'm listening to it right now and I see we have some that you mentioned in common as favorites. ;D The Professor is just so haunting and sad and I agree that when you saw the death scene and listened to the music you really felt the reality of it. Michael is so talented with his scores in this respect to convey a scene. I love the gradual tempo transitions of Sadies Blues from around :0 seconds then at 1:48 and again the apex as 2:22. Detective's Reprise is kinda the trademark of early Cold Case for me along with the Episode theme song Nara. I agree with you on Carl's Recollection especially when it reaches the 1:44 mark.

A waaay overdue thanks to everyone who said such nice things about the CD. My apologies to everyone who had to wait. As you might have gathered, it was quite a struggle to get everyone at WB, CBS, Lakeshore, and Bruckheimer to sign off. As for the length of the pieces, I debated going back and reworking them, but decided that authenticity was the right course. Plus, I've changed computer formats enough since I started working I was afraid I might screw up something someone loved the way it was by poorly reconstructing the original. One of the exceptions is obvious - I went with Robbyn Kirmsee's demo performance of 300 Flowers because I preferred it to the version that aired. One other is more subtle: Carl's Recollection is actually my original mix which got changed somewhat on the dubbing stage (the place where they put dialogue, music and sound effects together and balance them). It was only after all was said and done that I remembered it had been remixed - otherwise I would have gone with the version that aired. Best Wishes, Michael A. Levine
