Okay, here's the transcript of the Danny Pino article from TV Guide (a little late :smile66: ).
PINO NOIR
What happens when you put a hot guy on a COLD CASE? Viewers melt
By David Hochman
TV GUIDE 12/12/05
For the star of a hit drama, Danny Pino doesn't get a lot of special treatment. "When I get recognized," he says, waiting patiently for a coffee refill at a Hollywood hot spot where the staff should know better, "it's usually something like, 'Hey, I love you on
Desperate Housewives.'"
Too bad he's not on
Desperate Housewives. Pino plays Det. Scotty Valens on
Cold Case, the CBS procedural drama about Philadelphia investigators assigned to crimes that have never been solved. Without the geeky gadgetry of
CSI or the infernal affairs of
Without a Trace,
Cold Case has managed to draw millions of viewers simply by reopening yellowing police files and running flashbacks of victims' lives set to the soundtrack of that era. The hard-nosed series even manages to thrive opposite the ratings behemoth that is ABC's
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
And yet Pino, a first-generation Cuban-American whose most prominent role before this was playing Desi Arnaz in the 2003 CBS TV-movie
Lucy (he trained for the role by strapping a 70-pound conga pver his shoulder), still can't get a cup of joe in this town. "
Cold Case is one of these shows that's a success, but a quiet success," says the actor, 31, who's much bubblier in person than on TV. "Maybe that's because there's a quietness to what happens on the show. These aren't the guys at the crime scene. They're not even the ones looking at the DNA. They're the guys in the dark room with a box looking at photos from 20 years ago."
This season, Pino's character has also been the guy wrestling with his demons. After learning that his ex-girlfriend's drowning death was a suicide (rather than foul play, as he suspected), Scotty has been struggling to let go and move on.
It's the moving on part that has Pino's fans interested. After hooking up last season with the screwy sister of his partner, Det. Lilly Rush (Kathryn Morris), Scotty has a lot of 'splaining to do. But Scotty and Lilly are back on track, at least professionally. Will they ever get together? Pino just laughs. "They respect each other too much, so it's a real long shot," he says. Adds Morris, "I think of Danny as my hot Cuban brother. If our characters hooked up, it would just feel weird."
Pino has another Lilly in his life -- his wife, Lilly Bernal, an actress who's been Pino's main squeeze since junior high school in Miami. "We sent each other love letters back then and we still do," he says. The couple is expecting their first child, a boy, on Valentine's Day. "Danny's life is almost too perfect," says creator Meredith Stiehm. "He's gorgeous, he's with his childhood sweatheart. We keep asking, 'What's the catch?'"
Sounds like something Scotty would ask. This week on
Cold Case, the detective investigates a crime involving a Salvadorian immigrant whose brother is in prison for a murder he may not have committed. In the process, Scotty reveals for the first time that he has brothers, and we learn more about his Puerto Rican/Cuban parents.

As for romance, with a cast that has such good hair, it's only a matter of time. "Scotty's pretty wary of relationships now, but that won't last forever," promises Stiehm. "The next time he gets involved with someone, it's going to be serious."
Back at the Hollywood hot spot, Pino finally gets his coffee and gives a Scotty-like shrug. "Who knows?" he says about his character's love life. "Maybe Scotty will find himself a desperate housewife."
