Damn, cellogal, you have sucked me in to yet another shipper fic. I wasn't as convinced by this one as the other (mostly because I can't see Lilly actually sneaking into Scotty's apartment) but nonetheless, you managed to really capture the essence of these characters, and in first person no less. I am impressed, though not surprised, as I have come to expect nothing less from you. I gotta say, your writing has left me utterly conflicted - while I KNOW that I would have major issues if they hooked up on the show, you make them so damn cute together that I start to question my firmly held beliefs, just a little. (And then I come back to my senses, but still. The fact that you can make me believe in L&S as a couple, on any level, is incredible).

Also, this line?

No wonder we get away with never havin’ much evidence.

Had me rolling. It's funny 'cause it's true.

Wow, thank you! I'm glad this worked for you. That shifting perspective thing was ALL character-driven. They just switched back and forth for me. I really can't take credit for it.

Loved the journey you took them through, the way neither of them were willing to be the focus of attention for too long, 'cause that's just who they are, and how they keep bouncing the issues right back at each other... but, at the same time, little by little and piece by piece, ever so slowly bringing out their doubts and their emotions and the angst that makes them tick, and feeding off the other's, because that's just how they work. He gives a little, she takes it and gives a little back... and it shone through wonderfully against the backdrop of the interrogation-style conversation.

Yay!! I'm glad you appreciated this!! This was a challenging, but fun, part to write. If they ever did have a conversation like this on the show, this is pretty much how I'd picture it, especially with Lilly, because she'll open up to a suspect if it gets her what she wants to know, but she won't open up to anyone else. And I'm actually very proud of Scotty for not backing down and giving her a taste of her own medicine. This was a really, really enjoyable part to write, and I'm glad you liked it!

And, yea... I'm not a shipper, so I'll hide from most of the shippery stuff... but that little section at the very end absolutely made me sniffle a wee bit. Last two lines were beautiful, and brought about a real sense of completion and... well, sort of fulfilment, in the sense of the emotional rollercoaster they've both just been on. And, while it doesn't quite convince me in the same way that ETTFC does, it was nonetheless just... really sweet. In the purest sense of the word. A lovely culmination and conclusion to a fic that I still can't believe you managed to make four chapters long.

I'll take every inch you non-shippers care to give me. Thank you so much; I'm glad the end worked. That was the hardest part.

That's high praise indeed! I'm not trying, necessarily, to make shippers out of non-shippers, but I'm thrilled that it's making the die-hard non-shippers question their beliefs!

Excellent conclusion to an excellent story, cellogal. I thought that the interrogation style "talk" worked really well here. Even though Scotty would be more inclined to just lay it on the line, Lilly would definitely want to know where she stood before she went declaring anything. She likes the calculated risks and using this style gave her that advantage.

The switch from perspective to perspective felt seamless and it allowed the story to move along effortlessly. I liked the extra insight it provided on both of these characters. And I still agree that these two characters NEED to talk about that shooting on the show. Once again, thank you for filling in the gaps.

The ending was well done. I thought Scotty's closing words were beautiful. Lilly deserves someone like him in her life.

your writing is so amazing. seriously. i'm about to just chuck cold case reality and believe your version haha. this chapter was amazing. i'm about to go back and re-read the fic again, it was beautiful.

i'm sad it's status is COMPLETE now because i really really really have fallen in love with your writing style- cold case is an awesome show and it deserves to hvae more fanfic written about it, not JUST fanfic, but good fanfic and yours is the best that it gets. you write perfectly!

i hope you'll consider writing another story to satisfy us while we wait for new episodes! i don't think i can last without ANYTHING cold case related to look forward to haha.

Wow, guys, thanks!!! This was a really rewarding story for me to write, since I had a sneaking suspicion we wouldn't get any resolution to, well...anything...tonight. So this was therapeutic.

TVFan...the interrogation-type conversation was entirely character-driven. They came up with it, and I totally think that if they ever did have a conversation like this, they'd both go into cop mode, and only give up information if it would lead to them getting what they wanted to know. Particularly Lilly. Scotty's a little more open; not much, but a little.

And I'm glad the shifting perspective worked for you. Another character-driven decision; they just sort of took turns. It was really very thoughtful of them.

I'm glad you liked the end. Lil does deserve someone like him in her life.
