Deterrence

Good day everyone,

I just wanted to send this along. I saw a movie on my Daddy's TIVO HDNet Movie Channel. It is called "Deterrence," and Kathryn Morris is in it.

Although Kathryn's part was not very large (she is a wife who is stranded with her husband in a snowed-in Colorado restaurant), she looked lovely as always, and I personally liked it. Sean Astin (of "Goonies" and "Lord of the Rings" fame) is in it as well.

The setting is 2008, and it is a drama that centers around the President-elect on the road, and then getting thrust into a Colorado restaurant waiting for the end of a snowstorm. Then he has to deal with his election night jitters, and then having to confront Iraq invading Kuwait (again). I will not give away too much in case anyone has not seen it. But I was just curious if anyone has seen this movie, and what your thoughts were on it as well. Just curious if anyone has seen this besides me.

Also, I am looking forward to seeing "Who's Your Daddy?" tonight. I am just coming along trying to catch all of the episodes I have missed thus far. Thanks, and I will look forward to hearing from you all. Take care today!

Thanks for the description of this movie Byrdman. I haven't heard of it before but it sounds pretty good. It was a 1999 film. I'll have to see if I can rent it.

Hey Byrdman,

I checked a couple of the local video stores and they didn't carry this title. I'll keep looking though. I'm looking forward to Kathryn's newest film, "Mind Hunters," which is finally being released 2 weeks from today in the US.

Finally got to watch this movie last night. Was quite good and had lots of little bits with Kathryn in. She does crying so well its unreal!!!! :smile88: :smile88:

She was kind of in the background throughout but had some nice little parts.
I liked when she was on the phone to her son Dylan and the phone got snatched from her. She said F**k you or something very similar and then started crying. It was just a great little scene. She's so damn great!! :smile43:

Yes, she did seem to be in the background for the most part. I also thought her husband was a bit of a jerk. Ah, so you noted when KM was saying the ultimate foul phrase too? I was wondering if anyone would notice that. Yeah, I guess I just hate to see girls cry like that too. Just my thoughts, I prefer a smile myself, she looks so much more beautiful.

And yes, I completely agree with you, sonny. KM is a great girl and a wonderful actress. Great thoughts, girl. Take care, and have a rocking day too!

Deterrence is on TV late at night (1:30am) on Wednesday 19th November, Channel 4. So that's very, very early Thursday morning. I will be recording it of course.

I've haven't really watched it yet but I've had a quick look. Kathryn looks very cute with her Chelsea Cellini-style hair do

Unfortunately the broadcast included signing for the deaf, so the whole movie has a woman in the bottom corner of the screen signing the dialogue. This means I'm unlikely to do any caps or clips.

I managed to watch this yesterday. I'd read a full review on IMDb the other day (silly of me really) which meant I knew what happened but that didn't stop the film creating a very tense atmosphere.

Interestingly the film is set in 2008, having been made in 1999, and involves a US President approaching election time. In this case he is an unelected Vice President (the previous incumbent having had to step down for some reason) and that was promoted to Commander In Chief after the President died in office.

As said before, Kathryn has a small role, appearing in about 4 significant scenes and briefly a few other times. It is a small cast and the it is a only really a single set so you could see this being done as a stage play so the whole cast is in the background a lot.

I decided to do a small clip, despite the presence of the lady signing, so you can get an idea of Kathryn in this. It is one of the happier scenes, with lots of smiles. The clip is on my podcast. I will do more scenes or a proper Maximum Morris version when I get a copy without the sign language. Below are some caps from the same scene.

I'm not sure Kathryn should wear so much red. For the first few minutes the film is in black&white so you can't tell exactly what colour her outfit is. The red is quite a surprise.
