I'm not sure about the actual case of a man being poisoned slowly only to be hit by a car. On Cold Case Files, they did a case where they found a killer. He was in his car when he shot himself, much like the killer did in this episode.
New Information: There was a recent case on the East Coast of a hospital worker who poisoned sick patients with digoxin. His intention was to end their suffering. He managed to kill many patients. He escaped the death penalty by cooperating with authorities.
