Reader Jeer of the Week: Cold Case Doesn't Add Up From Roy Herstein in San Francisco... Jeers to the Nov. 4 episode of Cold Case for thinking we wouldn't do the math. The murder takes place 69 years ago in 1938. All of the major characters are, at best, in their early thirties, which would make all of them over 100 today. Miraculously, they are all still alive and played by actors in their seventies and eighties, like Pa Walton (Ralph Waite) and Seinfeld's Uncle Leo (Len Lesser).

Yeah that bugged me a little too. I saw a lot of the characters, and was thinking "wow that person looks great for pushing 100 or being 100 or over!"

I noticed this as well, but I guess it just doesn't bother me. I'm usually too wrapped up in the story to care. Also, I allow my TV shows a little creative license. Using "The War of the Worlds" broadcast was a fantastic idea, but it does make casting a bit of a b*tch. It has to be pretty impossible to find actors as old as these characters were supposed to be, so I'm not going to dog them for that. The alternative would have been to not do the story at all, and that would have been worse in my book. Also, it's no different for me than when they use a 3-month old baby as a newborn because of child labor laws. It's just not logistically possible for either scenario to be right on, but neither compromises the story, so it's OK in my book.

Actually this didn't bother me as well. I guess I was willing to suspend reality a bit.

OK, so I confess I didn't do the math. I bought the whole thing - hook, line, sinker. This is, after all, television, and it wouldn't be the first time I've suspended belief to just "go with it." Must have been a slow jeer week over TV Guide. LOL!
