This one answers some of our questions about last week's "The Red and the Blue."

Tim McGraw served as inspiration for the country-music plot in tonight's Cold Case, and as a reward, his music will be featured throughout the 8 p.m. show.
"I started it because I'm a fan of Tim McGraw," says executive producer Meredith Stiehm, who wrote the episode. Danny Pino, who plays Scotty Valens on CBS' Cold Case, had a role in the movie Flicka with Tim, and he introduced Meredith to Tim's music, and she was hooked. "The idea came from Tim, that was the starting point, and then I got into country music in general," Meredith says.
She also liked the "whole fish out of water thing" that developed as she imagined the characters Scotty and Lilly Rush (played by Kathryn Morris) venturing down South to investigate the reopened 2000 case involving the murder of a male singer.
She quietly came down to Nashville in September and met with Creative Artists Agency's Rod Essig to learn about the country-music world, especially the culture of struggling bands. She visited the Bluebird Cafe, Tootsies Orchid Lounge and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
"I knew the cops were going to come to Nashville, and I wanted it to be authentic," she says.
Of course, the cops didn't really come to Music City; they shot the show in Los Angeles and used footage of several local music landmarks. But they couldn't re-create Tim, whom you'll hear but not see. "We did ask him, but I think after the tour he was ready to stay in Nashville," she says.
