They're usually just press events where the networks' entertainment president comes out and speaks first and tells all the reporters in attendance about all the exciting things happening with the network. Then, different shows have panels there that take reporter's questions. Not every show has a panel and I think it's up to the network about which shows get a panel. Those that attend whose shows do not have a panel, usually just hobnob with the reporters, who ask them all sorts of questions about their respective shows. A lot of times, the reporters use the info they get for future articles. We usually see an onslaught of articles start popping up after these events because the newspapers interviewed Kathryn or someone else from the show about upcoming storylines, etc. BTW, Tracie Thoms was in attendance as well.
