we know only that she was alkoholic and now she's sick [Alzcheimer].
She wasn't a good mother and wife. her housband [Lilly's father] left her or die [we don't know enything about him; I think Lilly loves him very much].
We don't know how Ellen looks.
she could has a psycho problems [alcohol past] and she could hate her doughter, Lil.
Christina was take care of her, but she left the town so Lilly must take care of her now. Lil hate her mom.
what do you think about Ellen Rush?
when we can see her?
it's so many questions... and no answers...

I don't think she has Alzheimer's. In "Churchgoing People," Lilly says her mom is sick, but not the same as the guy's mom.

I don't think it's Alzheimer either. She's too young (well, considering she must've been a young mom--but that's all speculation) and it's much more likely for her to have some alcohol-related dementia, if she's been so fond of the bottle all these years...
Well, she MIGHT hate her daughter, but I have a feeling she doesn't. For some reason I keep picturing her as this sweet lady, very fond of her daughters but kind of childish and irresponsible--like she can't tell her attitude hurts them. But not with bad intentions at heart.

Did I mention the dream I had a while back about Lilly's mom charging into PPD and slapped Lilly round the face for driving Christina away!!! Hope that doesn't happen, poor Lilly!!  |

In ep 1.04 Lilly talked to the son of a woman with alzheimers and she said to him: "my mom is sick too. But in a different way" or something like that. So I guess it's not alzheimers... Wonder what then.. Gotta be something alcohol-related..?!

I think:
- Ellen could has depresion after alkoholic past.
- she has damaged mind and body.
- she realy could hate Lil and adore Christina [Chriss is differend like Lil]

oh well, i doubt that ellen prefers one of her girls, i just don´t think, she is like that...
i rather think she loves both of them, but she has and had no idea how to take care of them!

I would imagine it would be much the same as she did when Chris made her unexpected visit. She would be very embarissed and would probably take the conversation outside to prevent further embarissment. I'm sure she would tell her mother never to come to her place of work again!

I gotta agree I reckon it's alcohol-related - Chronic Liver failure, Liver cirrhosis etc - which can lead to mental health issues, sepsis (which, when underlying medical problems go unseen, high a high mortality rate)/ Theres also renal failure which, with not as common as liver failure in alcoholics, it's still a health concern related to alcohol abuse. If her mum does indeed have chronic renal failure, it would involve lots of visits to the hospital for dialysis. And, generally alcoholism leads to depression as well, so I'd imagine given the possibities, shoul'd be fun to look after...
