Lilly's 49?

Hello, I just watched Mind Hunters, and I had a question I was hoping someone could answer: What exactly is a "49"? Is it just copspeak for a police report, or is it something in particular?

I don't know for sure, so hopefully someone here will, but I got the impression from the episode that it was a violent crime report, particularly one where the victim survives. I would guess it's a broad category that can including everything from rape to armed robbery. I'm not sure, so if someone knows better, please correct me.
