This is a 1983 case, victim Grant Brady, 40, an ER doctor (and apparently a really good one) who was shot in the heart half a block from the hospital where he worked.
Title refers to a poker game (?). One of the characters say that the last common card dealt is called "the river". Apparently the doctor liked gambling a little too much and got in trouble because of it.

"The River" -- When a new witness to the 1984 shooting of a well known ER physician Lilly and company reopen the case, on COLD CASE, Sunday, May 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Craig Ross Jr. directed the episode that was written by Tyler Bensinger.
The original suspect was a mentally ill homeless man who was convicted of the crime based on circumstantial evidence and eventually died in prison, however, a new witness comes forward with information that the well respected doctor was beloved by his family, friends and patients but secretly had a gambling addiction that he could not shake. Now, Lilly is digging deeper into the world of gambling to possibly find a killer.

Finally, a 1984 case. I wondered how this year has gone without a cold case on this show for so long. This officially makes the 1980s the only decade in which every year of it has a Cold Case episode.

Something freaky (in the cast list) ... Emmanuel Xuereb is the brother of actor Salvator Xuereb. Salvator was KM's hot love interest in the Pensacola:Wings of Gold TV show she did in the 90's. I liked them together and have been waiting for Salvator to show up on CC. Kinda funny that his brother showed up instead From the cast list it doesn't sound like they're going to share a scene though.. I think he's the dude who gets killed (so the most that might happen is Lilly sees his ghost at the end). |

I noticed this as well irishkale, and I was totally disappointed that it wasn't Salvator. I have been waiting and waiting for Salvator to show up on CC since he has been on other JB shows.

It's just me being weird....but anyway: When I put the ideas of "ER Doctor" and "River" together, it makes me think of Dr. Simon Tam and his sister, River, from the television series, "Firefly". I notice Veronica Miller in the cast list. Interesting. Who's Veronica Miller? And isn't that a character's name, not an actor's name?? |
