I guess there might have been a backlash from the mediocrity of the last two seasons. As it was stated in the Hollywood Reporter the premiere fell 27% with 18 - 49 and was down to 12.3 million overall(about 4 million) from last year's premiere.

How do they tell if it was mediocrity or the switch in time slot or both? 12.7 isn't bad. The first season had some around that figure. Always imazes me how they determine these ratings. Yup, Rampage was the highest watched ep last season.

NAJ- My guess is that they can compare the numbers between seasons. Also, unfortunately it is probably the spin it gets. For ex, if I worked for CBS I would emphasize that it was ranked 5th, which is great. However, when the Hlly Reporter states the facts the way it did then the spin is obviously negative. Also, season three is when the rankings and viewership started to go down and the show was airing at 8:00 then. For me, even though I still like the show, I've been disappointed with the majority of episodes these last two seasons. The changes for me were NOT for the better. This season's premiere seemed to go back to some of the old way of thinking so hopefully word will get out and the viewership will increase!

Thanks for the info, koufax. I'm tired of watching The Early Show and all the attention they give to the other Bruckheimer shows. Shows I don't watch. Oh well. When Julie Chen is in California each week she could go over and visit the Cold Case set. It's not that no one from CBS is around to do it.

CBS's continued lack of publicity for CC is one of my biggest pet peeves. Why aren't they promoting this show more? I would say that it's just the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality, but they sure promote the crap outta CSI (one of the top ranked shows on television season after season -- hmm, think there's a link there??). It's frustrating because I think CC's ratings suffer because of it.

and CSI (normal one and Miami) are that boring its not funny. NY is the only one that's any good. Over here ch 9 puts CSI on about 2 3 times a week (not NY i think it got axed) in prime time slots and half of them are repeats. 9 needs CSI like 10 needs the Simpsons, it feeds off it.

I agree that the "Cold Case" writers need to do something gutsy like George. I really liked the "George" plotlines...really kept you on the edge of your seat.
Yay!! At least "Cold Case" is in the top 20 and beated Grey's...Grey's isn't even on the top 20 last time I checked(USAtoday Sept.17-23).

nvm lol. Just realized that week isn't the premiere week . No wonder it did better than Grey's in the re-runs xD. For the premiere week(last week), "Cold Case" didn't do too shabby. 16 out of 20 . Man, USAtoday is slow on these , but at least theirs is easy to read and easy for me to understand xD
