I don't know if anyone else felt that Scotty seemed like a 5th wheel last season but it seems like this storyline with him brings him more into the group. By the time he came on board last season, I was kinda thinking they didn't need him.
Thoughts? Remarks?

He definitely seems to serve more of a purpose (other than Lilly's partner) this season. We've seen him deal with some major personal stuff and have some cases that hit home for him. I'm glad they have decided to give the character more of a purpose, I only hope it doesn't take away from Lilly.

He really is a nice guy--kinda messed up right now (and who wouldn't be, given the circumstances), but a good person deep down, and a good addition to the group.

Maybe that's why the first ep of season two had Scotty interacting more and teaming up with Vera and Jeffires. I think they had to do something to make him more cohesive to the group of detectives. Having him involved with Lily's sister certainly does even more to include him.
I'm looking forward to that other storyline I heard as a possibilty for involving a case too...if it pans out.

I agree Naj. Scotty seemed outside the circle the first season. Lilly, Vera, Jeffries and Stillman appeared onscreen as though they had been working together for awhile and Scotty did not. He seemed like a tag along. Now that was appropriate for when he first joined the Cold Case Squad because he was outside of the circle but by episode 22 and 23, we should have been viewing a cohesive group of Detectives and we didn't. The writers have solved this problem, to a degree, this season with the Elissa and Chris storyline. Scotty seems more relatable to both the other detecives and the viewers.
