It appears that there will be no soundtrack album in the near future of the songs used on the show because of the excessive cost of licensing those songs.
But that isn't true of the instrumental underscore used on the show. Would any out there be interested in an album of the score from Cold Case?

The instumental score from Cold Case is very haunting. I would love to see an album of that.

Hi Useless Cat,
I do like the instrumental underscore so, yes, I'd be interested.

I really like the underscore of the show, Useless Cat. I don't tend to buy CDs in general (I'm more of an iTunes consumer), but I would be interested in a Cold Case underscore.

Hey guys, this concept is actually possible!
A few weeks ago I TiVo'd in HiDef an episode of the CBS show "Numb3rs" (Friday nights).
As I was watching it the next day, I noticed that they seemed to be doing a really cool effect-- the voices were completely muted out, and all you could hear was the soundtrack score.
After about 10 minutes I realized that the network made some sort of mistake; I checked one of the HDTV boards and found out that some CBS affiliates broadcast the episode without the voice channel of the dolby 5.1 broadcast (for HDTV). So about the first half hour of the episode was ALL SCORE, no voices at all! It was actually kind of cool to listen to!
In theory, then it'd be possible to cause this effect on purpose by extracting the background score from a 5.1 broadcast. Then you would have your true "soundtrack" to the show!
Unfortunately, Cold Case isn't broadcast in Dolby digital 5.1 (like Numbers and both the CSI shows). But....
...theres a good chance that the CC DVDs will be REMASTERED for DD 5.1 when they're released. Which means we might just be able to have the true "Soundtrack Scores" from CC episodes!
My hope is that CBS will do season 3 in DD 5.1 so I can test my theory. It'd be so cool to pop in a CD in the car and "listen" to the previous night's Cold Case score.

Very interesting irishkale. It'd be so cool to pop in a CD in the car and "listen" to the previous night's Cold Case score. You are right about this. I would also enjoy listening to the score on my way into work in the mornings

Hey guys, I got this to work! Cold Case went Dolby Digital with the start of season 3 so I was able to test this out. Here's my first tests... check out these cuts-- #1 is from Jared's confession..when "Josie chippy" says "It's no crime wanting to have a baby...", then the score starts up. It continues to the scene where Jimmy is run over by the car. #2 is from the scene where Lilly and Stillman go to the motel, rescue Claire, then Lilly has the heart-to-heart with Claire. Then it cuts to flashbacks of Quinn leaving the baby in the Janitors closet. #3 is that haunting piano piece. You can post the links on Source #1 Also, I played with the files a little and updated the links so you might want to download them again. I boosted the audio levels a little bit so they're easier to hear.

Thanks for doing this irishkale!! I never noticed just how much is in each musical piece before. I really like that haunting piano piece (but then again I'm a sucker for a great piano melody!). I really like all the different elements that the underscore uses. It's really a nice piece of work.

Oh, wow, cool. Thank you irishkale! :smile49:
I esp. love this "haunting piano". Seeing it with the scene it was like with Nara by ES Posthumus for me. I could only think for minutes - I want to have this piece of music. I must have it. - you made my day! ;D
I would like to have the underscore on cd.
