For those who are cynical or just appreciate a heart-warming story: I've finished reading "Into the Wild" and watching the movie. It is based on the life of Chris Mccandless. He goes into the Yukon wilderness in Alaska, barely equip and with only an amateur knowledge on hunting. Chris, unfortunately died trying to live in the Yukon Wilderness . He was only 19, just graduated Emory University 2 years before. He was basically a genius. His main purpose to go into Alaska was to escape society. Our society is corrupted by capitalism and materialism. Before his trek, he burned all his money, crashed his car so he had to walk on foot or by hitch-hiking, gave his 25,000 in savings to charity, and this is what I find ironic......he burned his social secruity card;which is like our "identity" by the government. It's such a tragic story. He died the most painful death of all...he died alone without knowing a special someone to love. Plus he was only 19, just beginning his life. That is what makes it tragic, but yet heroic. He died the kind of death he wanted to, secluded from our society and he died searching for his true identity in the wild. The story happened in 1992(the year I was born), but I never heard of it until I picked up my cousin's book that she had to read for college(she hates it, but she's stupid) . Great book and movie. I recommend it to anyone. I cried at the end even though I knew what was going to happen. It's a great movie. I didn't read the book but I would like a lot. It's at the movie's end that I knew it was true... Chris was so amazing I found... The movie's BO is beautiful. In particular "long nights", "guaranteed" and "society" ... If you can listen them, don't hesitate .

BO? What's that short for Jezebel? Well... I am a retard . Moreover, I know the english word for BO, but when I wrote my message, I forgot -_-'. So, in France, BO = Bande Originale, and in english, you say "soundtracks". Sorry for my thoughtless blunder .

Okay. I knew there was something I forgot to do. The movie is just as I remember the real life story of this guy who goes to Alaska and misidentifies this plant and ends up eating something that was poison to the body. I kinda felt he was really out there. Kinda a freak but they emphasized his IQ and how smart he supposedly was. Part of the time he seemed rational and sensible and other times I couldn't understand why he didn't plan for himself better as far as providing himself food during the winter. All in all I thought he was kinda an odd guy living in a self made fantasy world and not dealing with his childhood problems. This is my next rental coming up. I will probably have it sometime next week!!!!! ;D Yay Naj!! It's such a great movie ;D.

You would think if he's such a Jack London fan that he would have learned something from London's books by being better prepared for his trek. Nature can be very beautiful, but it can turn against you .

There just seemed a part of him that was reckless. He allowed his exuberance for when living in the moment to interfere with common sense. There was a disconnect for me regarding this and his so called IQ. Sure he could go to Alaska and live off the land but I guess he thought he was too smart. I would have taken some survival courses not just read a book. Eh?

Foolishness will kill you out there. One of the major themes of Jack London's books.
