I have to agree, it was a good episode. It had everything: the family thing, the car chase/fight etc. Loved the "I call shotgun" line. And Cameron in grief counseling!
Do you think that counselor had an ulterior motive for asking all those questions about the other girl? Is uncle Derek really dead?
Tune in next week for answers to these questions...

*peeks at thread* you guys make it so tempting for me to want to break my rule.... *I will not heed to temptation* Well, you don't have to think of it as giving in to your temptations, but rather look at it as finally forgiving FOX for all the dumb mistakes they've made as a network in the past. I think for them to cast Summer Glau in the show is an incredibly HUGE olive branch to put out to people like you and me who have boycotted them for several years now. I'm very pleasantly surprised at how human the episodes have been so far. I also really like how fast the multiple storylines are being woven together. Tonight's episode, "1x06 Dungeons & Dragons", was no exception, and I really enjoyed how it woven itself into the original "Terminator" movie.

Or, it's actually made new fans for Summer ... like me (who had NO clue who she was prior to TSCC and now feel bad because of it - LOL!) I LOVED last night's ep ... the flashbacks (er, I guess they would be flash forwards) to the future stuff, mixed in with present day, paying homage to what was left more ambiguous in the film ... awesome.

For Buffy fans there was as certain factor. The whole cowboys-in-space (as opposed to piiiiiiiigggggs-iiiiiiiin-spaaaaaaaaace ;D ) thing was a shock at first. It was a really entertaining series.

Oh, yeah! You a Browncoat too, RichE?? LillyKat, I think you'd really enjoy the series too! And if you get the DVD, you'll get to enjoy watching the series in sequential order. One incredibly stupid thing FOX did was to OMIT airing the serie's 2-hour premiere episode (which set up each character's backstory and the reasoning behind the cowboys-in-space premise), until the very end of the show's first season--after FOX announced they had cancelled the series!! Anyway, a lot of interesting and colorful main and guest characters, and a whole lot of witty repartee (a la Vera and Kat) throughout the show. Good stuff. I LOVED last night's ep ... the flashbacks (er, I guess they would be flash forwards) to the future stuff, mixed in with present day, paying homage to what was left more ambiguous in the film ... awesome. People over at IMDB.com have mentioned that in the "flash forward" scenes, that terminator in black (that made all those mechanical sounds), was one of the earlier "T-600" models that were covered with rubber, rather than human flesh. Kyle had mentioned to the one who's name we shall not say in T1 that they were easy to identify as robots, hence the T-800 (Arnold's series) was created by Skynet.

Wow, such pressure, guys. LOL! I see that Firefly is on the Sci-Fi channel sometimes, so I'll have to pay better attention in order to pay full homage to Summer. Now, how in the world did Fox get away with airing the premiere AFTER the series was canceled?! That had to have been a first ... though perhaps not Fox's first boneheaded move with respect to its handling of certain shows. LOL! @ boxman: Nice catch on the first film/T-600 connection! I had forgotten about that little tidbit, but I had wondered why that flash-forward terminator from this week's ep seemed so non-human and/or really robotic. Old model.

Oh, yeah! You a Browncoat too, RichE?? How do you know I have a brown coat? ;D I saw it first on DVD so that wasn't issue for me. A really entertaining series. And you get Summer Glau giving another near-motionlessly intense performance. I LOVED last night's ep ... the flashbacks (er, I guess they would be flash forwards) to the future stuff, mixed in with present day, paying homage to what was left more ambiguous in the film ... awesome. Flashbacks do seem to have been become this seasons must-have narrative device. Perhaps Cold Case should get some... errr... maybe not. We'd be in Minority Report territory there.... Hey, KM was in that!

1x07 "The Demon Hand"
As much as I like the show, I have to admit that the one who's name we shall not say's voice-overs can be overly dramatic and distracting (like Deckard's voice-overs in the original "Blade Runner" movie). But I really liked this monologue that closed the episode tonight. It wasn't just Lena's reading or the content of the monologue alone, but also the combination of it with the soft piano music, Detective Elliot's brief reading of Matthew 7:19, and the various imagery that accompanied it as well. I liked the visual similarity of Detective Elliot sitting in a circle, and then the cut to the image of him surrounded by fire as he finished reading the foreboding Biblical passage. During Cameron's ballet, you can see her face only through a mirror. As done a several times in Cold Case, looking at someone through a mirror usually hints at looking at someone's true nature or soul. Very ironic, considering Cameron is a machine; yet the imagery of Derek Reese peering through the door again reinforced the idea that we could actually be looking at a soul inside of Cameron.
Anyway, I loved what the one who's name we shall not say talked about the machines: They cannot possess Faith, they don't commune with God, they cannot appreciate Beauty, they don't create Art--And if they ever learned these things, they wouldn't have to destroy humans. Probably because of last week's Cold Case episode, I was thinking to myself, to heck with with some future apocalypse with cyborgs and machines, we've already seen such apocalypses before, amongst humans. Machines aren't the only things that can have a total disregard for culture; Humans can lack an appreciation for art, beauty, God and so forth, and thus seek to destroy others. I liked how this closing monologue was left open for interpretation like that.
And of course, one the most powerful scene in the whole segment was to see the demise of Dr Silberman...

Last night's episode was again so good. I loved the Dr. Silberman storyline - particularly how he described seeing the terminators for the first time (which would be the sequence in the film when John goes to break the one who's name we shall not say out of the mental hospital with the T101's help, and they have a stand off in the hallway against the T-1000; Silberman observes both). That sequnece in the film, at least from Silberman's point of view, always played more comedically whereby Silberman still didn't really believe what he was seeing and/or take it seriously even WHEN it was happening. It was sobering to have the television series frame that experience on the darker side - showing us it kind of haunted him AND everyone else who worked at the hospital (who, not surprisingly, aren't working there anymore). Cameron and the whole ballet angle was at first comedic to me, but the ending sequence ... with Derek watching her alone in the room, performing ... great stuff ... kind of made you forget she was a machine. (I guess Summer can also do ballet? Is there anything this gal can't do? ) Insightful observations as always, boxman.

I really didn't have great hopes for this show but it is proving itself to be really good. You wonder initially what can they do with the Terminator idea. Can they spin it into a long running TV series? Well, we'll have to wait and see on that but they are setting a high standard early on. Cameron on the police bike with the mirrored shades was a nice touch Lots of T2 references throughout.

HEY! It looks like Fox is picking this up for a second season! LINKTeen Terminator will be backAlex Strachan Canwest News ServiceThursday, February 28, 2008 At first glance, Summer Glau, a classically trained ballerina also versed in the tango and flamenco, seems an unlikely action hero. Her distinctive look seems more Kirov Ballet than Hollywood, and her deceptively vacant stare is the mirror opposite of Hollywood's propensity for over-emoting. She would not even be on TV if not for the fact that she tried out for a small part -- as a ballerina -- in a 2002 episode of the cult series Angel, itself a spin-off of the cult series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss Whedon, Buffy and Angel's creator, saw a flash of lightning beneath that deceptively calm exterior, and cast Glau as the emotionally damaged empath River Tam in his sci-fi western Firefly. From there, it was a short jump -- creatively and emotionally -- to playing teen terminator Cameron Phillips in Terminator: The the one who's name we shall not say Connor Chronicles. the one who's name we shall not say Connor Chronicles ends its strike-shortened first season Monday, March 3 with back-to-back episodes, but it will be back in the fall. In a season with more misses (Bionic Woman, Big Shots, Cane, etc.) than hits, the show is a bona fide contender. It has pulled down 24-size numbers in 24's original time period, and like Arnold Schwarzenegger's titular character in the original Terminator film, it will be back. "I love the fact that I get to be very physical, and that they chose a girl to play this part," Glau said. "I think that's really exciting for girls, and a great role for an actress. As far as her personality goes -- if you can call it personality -- I love how open and how curious she is. That gives me a lot of opportunity, as an actress, to try different things and let her grow and change." After a trippy, largely experimental start, Glau has eased into the role in recent weeks. Her character is different now than she was at the beginning. "People have noticed that from the pilot to the series," Glau said. "We were experimenting with Cameron quite a bit early on. We wanted her to be able to seem human. We wanted especially for John (Connor) to be fooled by her, so he would let her into his life. And so, in the pilot, I do act very human. As I've gone through the series, I've taken steps back, though, and I'm acting more now like a terminator would. We did that for several reasons." "I think sci-fi actors have to have very vivid imaginations. Playing River was difficult because I don't know what it's like to be a psychic; I don't know what it's like to be a government experiment and live on a spaceship and fly around in space. You really have to go there as an actor. It's not as easy as playing someone who might be your friend or your sister. It's very different. Sci-fi actors in general are very imaginative, creative people, and it's been really been fun for me to be part of that world. I've loved it." Firefly and its spin-off film Serenity remain close to Glau's heart. Glau struck up a friendship with Vancouver actor Jewel Staite while filming Firefly, and the two remain close. Glau also remains close to Edmonton native Nathan Fillion, who lives nearby in Los Angeles. "Firefly is never over," Glau said. "We thought it was over after the series got cancelled, and that wasn't the case. We're really close. I see Nathan the most because he lives the closest. Jewel lives in Vancouver and she's working up there, so I don't get to see her as much as I'd like. We all have a strong bond, though. "That was my first real experience in front of a camera. I didn't even know how to stand on my mark. I lost the camera all the time. I ran into people, and yet they treated me like an equal and part of the family. I think we would all come back if we got the opportunity. It's never over." Learning to fight like a fembot has not been easy, Glau admits. "When I met (fight supervisor) Joel Kramer to talk about the fighting, I said don't know how a terminator fights. He said, 'Well, it's going to be very different from what you did before with River. You're not going to be doing all these beautiful martial arts movements. It's not about being creative and using dynamic movement. It's just about brute force.' It's been a real fun change of pace for me, because I worked so hard on Firefly and Serenity. I had to learn all those martial arts. I did it myself. I did it from start to finish, every fight scene, and it was incredibly challenging. "With Cameron, it's challenging, but in a different way. I have to constantly remind myself not to react humanly, not to move in a human way. Even things like crossing my legs. I can't touch my hair to move it out of my face. I have to really reprogram my mind. But as far as the actual fighting goes, it's really fun." Looking ahead, Glau says she has three career goals. "I'd like to do a movie about dance, which is something I'm working on right now, with Joss Whedon. And I want to do a western. That's been once of my dreams. From the time I was a little girl and first thought about being an actress, I always wanted to do a period film -- a romantic, Jane Austen kind of movie. That's not what I'm doing right now, but I hope to at some point." Terminator: The the one who's name we shall not say Connor Chronicles' season finale airs Monday, March 3 on CTV and Fox at 8 p.m. ET/PT. © Canwest News Service

Are you sure it's going to be back? "Terminator: The the one who's name we shall not say Connor Chronicles," picks up after "T2" with the one who's name we shall not say and John (now 15), and wowed audiences with its action-packed pilot. Michael Ausiello is worried about the series and says, "For as much money as Fox is pouring into this show — in terms of promotion and special effects — it should be doing better. It NEEDS to be doing better." Fans can still look forward to a two-hour season finale airing 3/3. Future Prognosis: Shaky Ground www.tv.yahoo.com/slideshow/229/photos/1

Yeah, I've read that Yahoo article and it's really only the sole opinion of one TV critic. Doesn't carry much weight; and for that matter, neither does the article I cite either. But the way they ended the season with the cliffhanger in last night's double episode, I don't see how FOX could ever "terminate" this series and come out alive with the show's 8 million viewers. So does this mean you're watching, CBL???

FOX would be complete idiots if they cancelled it anytime soon, "Bones" averages around that many viewers. I'll guess I'll start by watching the "Pilot" eppy sometime soon.

Great finale last night! Cameron - noooo!!!! Alas, you'll have to fogive my recap at PTR for the finale this week for being somewhat creative LOL!) Wow ... I haven't really been bowled over by a show like this in a LONG time. Totally hooked. Can't believe it's already over. Going to seem like a LONG break between now and if/when S2 starts up (er, when ... definitely when ... ... ).

I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it! If it's been a while since you've seen "Terminator 2", you might want to take a break and watch it again. And if you can, get the latest extended-version of the movie because there's things in there that the show will revisit in the storyline.
