Upon deciding to order season one of The L Word, I decided to order a movie their site was promoting - lovingannabelle.
I can see why it won awards. Diane Gaidry was exceptional.

Fantastic movie. I fell in love with it the second I saw the previews of it, and when I finally saw the whole thing I pretty much just melted. Diane Gaidry and Erin Kelley were amazing, and I now regard Katherine Brooks as a genius. What is so fascinating about it is that she takes a tender subject and is so in your face yet also careful about it.

I liked the movie but didn't. Don't get me wrong the quality and actors where all very good. The soundtrack was WOW! Do you know what music that was as the underscore because I liked that even better! Also I can't locate a downloadable picture of Simone and Annabelle on the beach. I think it was a posed pic of them touching hands. If you locate it I'd like to have it for a screen wallpaper. Back to the movie - What I mean there wasn't enough of delving into the characters and once we find out Simone's secret - the movie really becomes all about Simone. She needed a little more dialog expression. For example when the two come back from the beach house I had no clue Simone had stopped speaking to Annabelle. And I didn't know Simone actually loved her until the end. Up until that point I wasn't sure if it was just transference of her past friend onto Annabelle. I wish there had been at least a prior romantic encounter to the only one we got. I really wanted to see how they reacted to each other. The actual love scene was a disappointment for me. First it was written that way because that's the way Katherine likes lesbian love scenes. It just seems to me that Simone would not have made love to Annabelle that way. The scene lighting was too dark and I wanted to see them react to each other as they made love. Also there were scenes that were deleted that I wish had been left in. Simone's aunt turns her in pronto to the government? Since when do Catholics turn on their own (especially a niece) when no one has even brought charges? I mean it was consentual and no one got pregnant. ;D The priest knew about Simone and Amanda and I felt he should have been consulted in the matter. I felt a better ending would have been to fire Simone so we can see Annabelle and Simone deal with the situation and now being separated. (Wouldn't Simone have been done for the year anyway at the school)? I felt unfulfilled with an incomplete story. The director stated that when she began the script she was more of Annabelle but then became more of Simone because she suffered her first lost love. I didn't like her interpretation. It was so abrupt an ending. The movie does look like it was marketed for younger people but didn't KB think there would be older lesbians watching too that would quickly identify with Simone? I don't think she did. I cared more about Simone personally. She kinda had that Mary Kay Laterno look especially at the end as they were taking her away. And what she said to her aunt was spot on. There's no way her aunt could understand never having had an experience like that herself (most likely) ;D Erin Kelly was interesting. At times she spoke like Rudolph with his rubber nose on. ;D Her best scene was the end when she went back to Simone's room and smiled and cried. She reminded me there of a young Valerie Bertinilli. Cat was hilariously obnoxious and that gal that cut her wrists wasn't she in season two of Cold Case? I liked the priest's sermons!!!! And the day the parents came. It was interesting to see the parents next to their children especially Cat's. ;D edited to add: I found the sound track underscore.... myspace.com/aurahmusicFantastic movie. Ahh, yes! I entered that contest, actually. Didn't win though; that would have been exciting! The winners are posted here. The first place story is very good; I personally liked that ending better than the one they did.

You know I didn't like KB's ending at first but it was only because I felt the entire movie was so short. (I really wish KB hadn't cut out so much). But now that I've watched it more times I realize that KB's version is actually brilliant. We are supposed to feel short changed because Simone finally acts on her feelings and gets caught so we are to feel an abrupt ending. I'm sure there are many people who would take Mother Immacula's side wondering how Simone could do such a thing - why she didn't restrain herself. (i mean i wonder that too - it was only a few weeks till the end of the semester and annabelle would have turned 18 soon) maybe no chance of ever seeing her again? The only thing I would have done differently with KB's version was during spring break when annabelle and simone were alone in the dorm - when annabelle went to knock on her door that night Simone would have answered her door and then I would have inserted a kissing scene initiated by annabelle which Simone pulls away from after a few seconds. That would have made great tension for the end, IMO. I just can't see anything beating the last segment, I mean the music and annabelle's acting is heart wrenching. Those of us that understand what is happening between the two can only appreciate this type of ending while those who've never had such an experience in their life will be cheering it's over and how inappropriate. I thought the first place winner was okay. I think I like KB's better. Do you mind sharing your ending?

This movie was awfully awfully GREAT!! Both women are very good actors. Gaidry had the hardest part, but she managed to pull it great. Only in the beach house scene (which was great, btw) her crying sounded so fake.
I agree with Naj; they shouldn't have cut the movie so much. There was a lot in deleted scenes that could have been shown on the movie.

Hi eli, Yes, Diane did have the hardest part. So many different people she had to be. It's amazing to know she came on three days before shooting due to the other Simone's not working out. Yea, I'm not sure that could have been a dub by Katherine Brooks. KB dubbed the love scene too for Diane. This movie was awfully awfully GREAT!! Both women are very good actors.
