As Scotty watched their newborn baby take its first breath, it made him breathless after seeing it cry out for the first time. He knew that tomorrow a restraining order was going to be active banning him from any contact with their child since his mother’s lies.
“It’s a girl” the doctor said before placing the newborn into Lilly’s arms. She too cried softly while peering into the blanket knowing that this was something they had both had wanted. Now in the room alone, Scotty was beaming with happiness while stroking his daughter’s cheek.
“Hey Melissa” Lilly whispered while feeding her. The two parents couldn’t get over just how beautiful she was but were happy to spend this today together.
Through his happiness, Scotty was sad wanting to be the father he’d always had wanted to be. In fact now he couldn’t even protect Melissa whom had meant everything to him.
As Lilly placed her into his arms, tears mixed with both joy and sadness streamed down his cheeks. His lips gently touched her small cheek” I love you so much, Melissa”.
Scotty then sat there watching his daughter asleep in his arms trying to spend a much time as he could.
When a nurse came in, Scotty didn’t want to leave. In fact it hurt to leave both his fiancé and daughter behind. Giving Melissa another kiss, he wanted to say everything he felt about her but the words couldn’t spill out fast enough.
Turning to Lilly, their lips came together knowing now their dream of getting married was now squashed forever
The night after Melissa had come home, Scotty sat up as more worries flooded through his mind. In fact he wanted to go over there and make sure she was alright. Now not being able to do that, he drew in a breath unsure of what to do next.
Meanwhile Lilly couldn’t stand Alegria’s presence especially how she had just screamed at her daughter. Now with a crying newborn, her headache was going to get worse.
“Get out Now” Lilly said quietly” Don’t try to pin this one on Scotty”.
The older woman looked at her” He would hurt her, its better that this mistake doesn’t know about him”.
Opening up the door, she immediately left. After spending two hours trying to get Melissa to fall asleep, Lilly was wiped but glad to hear his voice on the other line.
“You need me”
She sighed” Yeah, Melissa does also”. U pon hearing that Scotty wanted to take care of his girls in fact his paternal instincts had just risen inside. It wasn’t fair that Lilly was faced with raising their daughter alone.
“I miss the both of you” he whispered.
“Come home” was her final response before hanging up. Scotty watched the rain come down wanting so much to feel the joy of being a father.

By the weekend, Scotty grew saddened wanting so much to see his daughter. Just about every day he was on the phone with his lawyer trying to get some visitation rights. Meanwhile Lilly glanced over at the photo on Melissa’s dresser; it was one of Scotty holding her the day she was born. His faces showed a mixed of joy, and love something that her daughter needed from him. Now overly tired Lilly looked over into the crib while watching Melissa sleep. Placing a kiss on her cheek, she gently closed the door but heading into bed.
Sometime later, Stillman arrived at Scotty’s apartment “Lil asked me to bring these by”. As he pulled out a picture from the envelope, Scotty’s eyes were fixed on the picture of his little girl. It made him yearn to go over there and hold her. In fact it hurt to see even that knowing that Melissa needed him. “Got a beautiful little girl” Scotty sighed” Boss I need to see her, it’s driving me crazy not to”. “I know” before leaving knowing what had been taken from the younger man. While holding the photo Scotty slipped it into a frame and placed it on his nightstand. Now lying down his eyes were still on the photo wishing she was lying in his arms. There was so much he needed to tell her but couldn’t even while the words were on the tip of his tongue.
The next morning , Alegria pushed her way through and headed upstairs. Inside of the nursery she glanced over at the sleeping infant.
“ I won’t let that horrible Daddy of yours harm you” she said “ He would hurt you”. Lilly stood there with her arms folded” How dare you say that about Scotty, he loves her more than anything else”
Alegria shot her a look” You don’t know him, besides I’m doing what’s best for her”. “ No you aren’t by keeping her away from a father that’s heartbroken cause he can’t see his own daughter”.
Just another week later the two went back to court, but in the end lost. Scotty was so much in pain from not seeing his daughter he went to a tattoo parlor and got Melissa’s name on his arm.

While that was being done, Scotty felt the pain of the needle but it didn’t compare to how he was feeling inside. His chance of being a father had been stolen from him, which hurt deeply. Breathing out, he thought about Melissa wanting to be with her that given second. Afterwards Scotty came back to his apartment looking at the tattoo.
Underneath Melissa’s name was her birth date with a pink rose underneath. He felt good to get it but it didn’t take away the yearning to be a father. In fact Scotty lay back and stared at the picture of his little girl as the night drew on.
Even Lilly knew she wanted to share her joy of being a mother with him. It hurt that he couldn’t even experience that feeling. Now snuggling against the sheets, she missed lying on his chest while he held her. Now closing her eyes Lilly breathed in deeply before falling asleep.
Alegria was getting worse so much so that she hit Melissa. Now frantic, Lilly immediately took her daughter down to the emergency room. As explaining what had happened the doctors began to make sure Melissa was fine.
While waiting Scotty arrived with a look of worry strewn about on his face” Is she okay” he asked. Lilly sighed” Mommy dearest struck again, she needs to stop”.
He nodded in agreement” This would not have happened if I was there, I need to protect her” as Scotty felt weak from not being about to do that.
Just then a doctor motioned for Lilly to come closer “Your daughter is fine. We’re going to keep her overnight for observation”.
Lilly took in a breath” Can I see her” as the doctor led her into a room. Now all alone Scotty wanted to so badly to go in there comfort Melissa. She needed his love especially now, as another sigh was released. Inside their daughter lay there as Lilly gently kissed her” Daddy and I love you so much”.
After exiting the room, Scotty pulled her into an embrace before they walked out. Now back at her place he continued to hold Lilly close. That’s when she discovered his tattoo; upon see now how much he loved their daughter.
The next morning everything changed as Melissa was taken from them. Somehow his mother had told the hospital staff that Scotty had caused the bruise while violating the restraining order. Now faces with losing her forever, both parents were prepared to fight for their child.
However there was just one problem: Scotty had to meet with a social worker. Once he got there they started to question him.
“When is the last time you had seen your daughter”
“The day she was born” Scotty replied realizing that had been a month ago.
The social worker glanced over at him” Were you at Ms.Rush’s apartment the night that her child was rushed to the hospital”
Scotty was about to let them pin this on him” No and I would never harm Melissa”.
As the questions went on and on, he knew right now Melissa was probably somewhere needed her mother. It wasn’t fair to her that she had been taken away from Lilly. By the time it had ended, Scotty went back to her place to get rid of his headache.
Heading upstairs, Lilly was curled up with Melissa’s blanket.
“ Hey” he whispered.
She sniffled back some tears” I miss her Scotty, she needs me”.
He leaned forward and kissed her lips” We need to be a family; I can’t stand coming home with seeing my girls”.
Lilly continued to hold the blanket closer as Scotty went into the nursery. Letting out a sigh he wished so much to see Melissa lying in the crib. Most of all he needed to bond with his daughter which had sent more aches throughout his entire body. After coming out, Scotty changed and climbed into bed with Lilly.
“Can’t sleep at night “ She turned over before laying her head down on his chest. Just two days later, Melissa was back in her arms. No charges were filed since there was no proof of child abuse. Still Scotty was left in the dark feeling helpless.

Just one night Scotty stopped over to discuss a case with Lilly. Now standing in her living room he heard the sound of Melissa crying from upstairs. Right away he wanted so badly to run up and comfort her. With a sigh escaping him, Scotty leaned against the wall feeling even more depressed.
Ten minutes later, Lilly came down as the two discussed the case. In the middle of it he became very quiet wanting to have some time with his daughter. “I know you miss her” she said taking his hand” I don’t blame you for feeling that way”. Scotty let out a breath before Lilly stood up knowing that he needed to bond with her. It was important but now with the restraining order that wasn’t going to happen. Now as he sat there he wanted that same feeling he had felt when she was born.
Moments later Scotty felt the rain pouring down hard, not wanting to walk away from her house. Now with a broken heart his legs began to move. Flicking on the light in the apartment as he sat down watching the rain crying from the clouds; a metaphor for what he was feeling.
Just two days later Alegria started once again, grabbing Melissa out of Lilly’s arms. After shoving the blonde out the room; the infant was crying loudly. Placing her down in the crib, she began to taunt her. “No bottle, you poor little mistake. Daddy doesn’t adore you, he pretends to”. Melissa continued to cry as Alegria smashed the frame which was one of Scotty holding her the day she was born. This tiffed her off big time as she began to shout in Spanish about her son.
Then Lilly got the door open as Alegria cut her with a large piece of glass. After six minutes of fighting she left leaving the blonde lying in the nursery. Luckily Stillman had dropped by as took them back to his place.
Now with a bandaged hand, Lilly peered over at her sleeping daughter. Meanwhile Scotty didn’t feel any more relief knowing that his girls were all right. After cleaning up the nursery, he stood there seeing a pink blanket lying in the crib. Now thinking of Melissa, he took it on his way over to Stillman’s apartment.
Once receiving the call, Scotty wasn’t about to let his mother get away with this. In fact he was determined to get her to drop this whole thing entirely.

It's so sad. But I don't understand it. Who's Alegria? Scotty's mother? Why is she so angry? Is she mentally ill or something? And why can't Scotty see Melissa when he's the father? Is this because of an episode I've missed or something, or are you going to explain it later..? I hope you update soon!

Here's one half of the chapter
Just a few weeks after everything had happened, things went back to normal. Now Scotty was so depressed inside that it was keeping him up at night. One thing he was still doing was pitching in with buying stuff for Melissa among other stuff. When his mother had found out about this she immediately went over to his apartment.
Like always Scotty wasn’t there, which was a very good thing. Instead was walking around town running errands for Lilly. That turned into half of the day but he didn’t mind doing things for her. Upon returning Scotty found her sitting at the bottom of the stairs crying hard. He knew all too well that she was so overwhelmed with raising Melissa on her own that she couldn’t handle the stress.
After Kat had arrived he took Lilly back to his place. “ You need to sleep Lil” Scotty whispered as he covered her up with a blanket. Before long she was fast asleep which was something she had needed for awhile. Within in the hour he found out that Stillman had set up a meeting to discuss this matter.
During the upcoming week, Scotty took some time off to be with Lilly. The more that they had talked the more he wished that the restraining order didn’t happen. When the day of the meeting had arrived Lilly was in a much better mood. In fact she shot Alegria a cold hard look once in the room.
This time there were more outrageous lies and Lilly stood up. “All my fiancé wants to do is be a loving father to our daughter, so enough with the lies”. Then a social worker rudely interrupted her” We see that Mr. Valens isn’t fit to be a parent especially given his anger levels”. Lilly was still not giving up” Let him prove everyone here wrong. He doesn’t care if a social worker monitors his visits just let him see our daughter. In fact I’m requesting knowing that this is the right thing for my child”.
Nobody heard anything else until a month later as Scotty prepared to fight for visitation rights again. As he waited outside the court building he saw Lilly walking up the steps. Just after the last meeting the whole emotional thing had stopped. He made sure to stop over every day and night to check up on her.
Following two hours in there, the Judge looked up at both of them” Custody of Melissa Kate Valens remains with her mother Lillian Rush. Mr. Valens will have minimal visitation rights for one hour every week with a court appointed social worker”.
When that day came around he sat there smiling at Melissa. “ Hey princess” Scotty whispered” You gotten so big” feeling sad that it had been couple of months since she was born.

The minimal contact didn’t allow Scotty to hold Melissa. In fact the whole reason behind this was to see how well he communicated with their child. Although Lilly hated this she hoped that that one day they could be a family. Now sitting there as Scotty did his best to try and be a father but each session made him feel like a dead beat dad.
When Melissa turned six months old the visitation was brought to an end. That night he sat there looking at a picture of her. There were still things as a father he needed to experience but knew his chance was over. Since the pain was so deep Scotty spent nearly every night at the gym lifting more weight; but felt a need to see his daughter.
Lilly could see a part of him in Melissa’s face though she had her eyes and hair. It hurt knowing that she had another parent that loved her so much. Now placing coming downstairs Scotty stood there still sweated up from the gym.
Though his arms were more muscular from working out, she knew they both would never be able to marry. Now with her head on his chest, Scotty took out a small ring from a box as he slid it down her finger.
After she had done the same he began let out a breath” Always wondered what you’d look like as a bride walking down to me” wanting Lilly to be his wife” Then sharing this” before their lips met.
Lilly smiled” You carrying me down the stairs, sounds so perfect”.
He sat up” How about we still go on our honeymoon”?
“After Melissa turns one okay”?
Scotty kissed her again before the two lay there together on the daybed. He enjoyed this moment but watched as Lilly fell into a deep sleep. All his dreams about being a husband and father were suddenly destroyed.
Even looked through some pictures Scotty hated the fact that he wasn’t in his daughter’s life. It hurt that he couldn’t even take her out for walk. Most of all he wanted to share with Melissa his culture especially speaking to her in Spanish.
Now glancing over at the stairs; Scotty felt the urge to stand over her crib and speak to her. His lips moved but nothing came out before looking at Lilly. His girls needed him but only she was receiving his love not Melissa.
Pulling the blankets up closer to Lilly he kissed her. By morning the two shared a good morning kiss as she snuggled closer to him.
“How about a candlelight dinner “he asked
Lilly smiled but then heard Melissa crying out as Scotty got up. Now watching his fiancé walking up the stairs he also had a kiss for his little girl as well. Wiping a single tear away Scotty left as he began to take a long walk.
Now sitting on a park bench he watched a father playing with his daughter. Scotty still felt extremely paternal wanting to do something with Melissa. In fact an hour later he saw Lilly holding their daughter nearby.
Then his mother caught him looking in that direction.

Luckily his mother didn’t start anything her but with him there was fight that was ready to break out at any given time. Only that she decided to watch intently like an animal waiting to attack their prey. Then by sheer luck his mother got into a car and drove away. Scotty was glad to see her leave knowing she had destroyed a piece of his heart.
One night Lilly was sitting there feeding Melissa a bottle as Scotty watched from his desk. He hated pulling back and not going over there. While seeing her going into the boss’s office their daughter began to cry out.
Scotty looked over with such love and concern for his child that it hurt badly. He knew the father inside of him was aching so much to come out that now it was emotionally driving him even crazier. When Lilly came back out she put on her coat.
The pain in his heart was hurting so much that Scotty felt it squeezing up inside. After they had left he went home but couldn’t stay there for long. Throwing on a t-shirt and a pair of jeans he walked around before heading over to her apartment.
It didn’t take long before Scotty broke down and cried. Lilly tried to counsel him before he lay on the daybed underneath a blanket. By morning he heard Melissa crying out before biting his lip even harder. Now getting up Lilly went upstairs as Scotty remained there with so much pain surging through his heart.
He only got worse to the point that Lilly had to feed Melissa upstairs. After taking her to a Mommy and me class downtown.
The truth was he longed to experience fatherhood for himself. Now walking up the place noticed it was for both fathers and mothers. He saw how one dad was playing with his little girl. Scotty had lost that chance forever, not even knowing that it felt like.
Walking on he resisted drinking for a lot of reasons. It wasn’t going to help but there was nothing else he could fight to see his daughter. All oppurtunties had shut down leaving him feeling so depressed. Scotty knew he could never see her crawl, taking first steps or speaking her first words. He felt the warm tears being released as it streamed down his cheek.
Now heading back to Lilly’s apartment he let out a sigh. Now all dreams of being a father and husband were gone. Lying down on the daybed tears of sadness began to flood out like a river. When Lilly came home she got into the bed. “ Where’s my little girl” he asked. “ Boss is watching her, we need sometime alone together” she said. Now going upstairs together Scotty stopped and went into Melissa’s room. Sitting down on a rocking chair his eyes looked sad. There was so many stories and love he needed to give her. Now looking around Melissa wasn’t here with him. “ You don’t know how much I love you” he thought” Can’t even hold you in my arms”. Lilly hated his mother even more now especially seeing Scotty sinking lower into a depression. She couldn’t even plan our her dream wedding knowing it wasn’t going to happen. On top of that Melissa was growing up like she did without a father under different circumstances. Later on Scotty gasped as flashed of him at a beach were seen. Melissa was in his arms as he was telling her something but couldn’t hear what it was. A feeling of happiness was felt before Scotty stood there on an empty beach without Lilly or Melissa there with him.
Then he awoke in a dark room before turning over watching Lilly sleep. Scotty listened to her breathing wondering that her dreams were about. Now gently pushing some hair away his lips gently planted a single kiss of love.
Her eyes opened as Lilly held out her hand. Taking it their hands stuck together like glue while their thoughts were of being a family. She hated being apart from someone she loved so much. Now as her head pressed gently after his chest, Lilly let his heartbeat comfort her.

Somehow when Lilly drifted back into her dream she saw herself walking down the aisle wearing a beautiful wedding dress noticing that no one was there. Now holding onto Melissa she turned around aching for Scotty to carry her down the steps. Outside there was no one was it began to rain hard. . Looking around the scene had changed into an empty lavish catering hall with her just standing there. A beautiful bride with tears filling up in her eyes needing her groom to dance with.
The floor was awaiting the first dance was empty and silent as Lilly saw a table without a wedding cake on it. Rose petals scattered across the floor while the dreams of the big day were shattered even while she looked through a glass. There the two of them danced to their wedding song, cut their wedding cake with smiles on their face.
Lilly turned around as tears began to stream downward before finally seeing him. He saw how beautiful she was but then they returned back to the beach. When Scotty tried to take Melissa into his arms it appeared that he was invisible to her. All dreams of being a father floated out with the tide as he stood there before disappearing into sand.
By the next morning Scotty finally got through to his mother who finally agreed to have the talk. There was only one thing she wanted Lilly to bring Melissa. Not about to head back to court, she agreed but wasn’t looking forward to this at all. Just four days later he was in the other room while Lilly pushed the stroller into another.
Alegria looked over at Melissa” Looks like you not my son”. “She’s Scotty’s” The older woman took Lilly’s hand” Leave her here dinner is ready” with the threat of stealing her own motherhood away was in her eyes. Even being an experience cop told her that if she didn’t do that, her fear would come true. While eating Scotty’s eyes were fixed on the door knowing Melissa was all alone.
He felt bad for her knowing she needed him, lying there without being around anyone. Then as he went into the kitchen there was another door leading inside which made Scotty want go in. His little girl needed him now but it made him upset that he couldn’t. Upon seeing Lilly going in she left the door opened before he saw Melissa in her arms.
The last time he held her was the day that she was born. Now his heart ached to hold Melissa needing to bond. It hurt deeply not being about to just sit there with her knowing she needed his love. All Scotty could do was yearning to be with her, as Melissa held out her hand. “I’m sorry I want to hold you” he thought” Don’t hate me M”. Scotty feared so much that she would hate him for not being there. With tears filling up in his eyes he wanted to be that father to her but now was taken away. Lilly also saw this before putting Melissa back down as she pulled the blanket closer to her. “She’s sick with a cold” as Scotty grew concerned he wanted to come closer to make sure his child was alright. Later on that night Melissa was so cranky that Lilly sat there trying to calm her down as the social worker spoke. Scotty sat there across the room, wanting to comfort her. He knew this was the only thing that would make him happy right now. Plus the fact wanting to cherish a moment with her, but there were never moments or pictures; the only that Melissa would ever seeing is the one of him holding her when she was born.
“Just an invisible father, M doesn’t know how much I love her” Scotty thought while seeing how hard it was for Lilly to comfort her. As she carried Melissa out while pushing the stroller, he paused wanting to drive his girl’s home. Being a family was so important to him but that now was lost. Just a minute later Scotty stood there looking right at Lilly. “Love you” he said as they kissed. Lilly could see what he wanted” I know you want Melissa breaks me that she can’t even be with you”. That wasn’t what he was thinking about. It was the first annual new police fathers recognition. Scotty wanted so much to be part of this, especially now being one. The only problem was that he couldn’t attend unless Melissa was with him. Now even more sadness flowed through his veins aching to share a day with his daughter.
Lilly was tiffed at Alegria since she wanted to give Melissa to family who could love her. She already had two parents who did, but that was just talk. It wasn’t really going to happen since Alegria knew that Lilly was a good mother. What she failed to realize was how much her son was hurting. He wanted to be with Melissa so much he almost had a breakdown from it. Now Scotty was sitting at his desk wanting just one day to be with his child. Today wasn’t going to happen as he watched the clock before heading outside for some air.
Lilly felt for him a lot as she remained in the bullpen knowing this day would have been special to him. In fact there was nothing in the world that could bring back his happiness. Now seeing Scotty walking past her she could see the yearning to be with their daughter.
As he walked past the place that was filled with fathers and their children, he only could imagine what that was like. It was a like a wall he wanted to break but couldn’t as the lonely father walked alone without his precious little girl in his arms.
