Just wondering if there are any Harry fans on this site. I myself am-and let me make this abundantly clear- H U G E fan, and am always looking for other more grown up fans who have any thoughts on the books or movies. Consequently, I just saw Azkaban last night. Very dark but ssssooooooo good.

I haven't read the books, but I've seen the first two movies and I have my tickets to see this one tomorrow. I LOVE the movies!! They are so well done, and the stories are so facsinating. I'm totally hooked! I'll let you know what I think after I see it tomorrow.

I saw it today, and I really liked it. I thought the storyline was fantastic! I loved all the twists and turns. One thing that they do really well is distract you. In other words, you'll notice something and think it's weird, but you forget about it. Then later on in the film, they explain it and you remember that you were confused at that point. I don't know if that makes any sense. Anyway, I loved the movie as usual. ;D I saw it on IMAX, but I doubt there was really anything different other than the price. I think this is some new gimic movie theaters and film companies are using. I noticed that Catwoman and The Polar Express (both of which previewed b/f Harry Potter) are both going to be released on IMAX as well. Interesting way of getting people to pay more money, and I totally fell for it!

Glad you liked the movie. I wasn't as thrilled with it as I have been with the previous two, but think that the change in directors has a lot to do with it. If you read the books, it's really easy to criticize if they mess with it....which they always do. They left out some important stuff out. Scenically, it was beautiful and the tone of the movie was a lot darker, which is to be expected given that this story is getting progressively darker. I just found it rushed and that they jumped around a lot. I'm interested to see how the next movie progresses because the book is huge. I will be incredibly disappointed if they cut it to ribbons for the sake of time because Rowling puts so much detail into the books that are important that things that are left out can be potentially damaging to the end of the series. All that being said, the acting was amazing, the scenery was great and certain scenes were bang-on for me personally. For example, the Dementors on the train were exactly as I'd imagined.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but the main reason why I haven't read the books is because I'm afraid it'll ruin the movies. I read Jurassic Park after I saw the movie (good thing since the book was sooo much better), and I read Seabiscuit before I saw the movie. I loved the movie, but it pales in comparission to the book. I really enjoy the Harry Potter movies, so I'm just afraid I won't if I read the books. My sister reads them, so some day I'll have to borrow them and see what I'm missing. Possible SPOILER info... * * * About the change in director...I wish I hadn't known about that before I saw the movie. I had read an article on it, so I was more aware. I spent way too much time trying to figure out if certain things were just different or if they were different b/c it was a different director. For instance, a lot of this movie seemed to take place outside during the day, making it less Harry Potterish (part of the charm of the movie for me is the amazing sets that really put you at Hogwarts). The previous two seemed to take place more inside and it was dark. Also, Harry, Hermione, and Ron wore a lot of normal clothes (as in I think I saw that at The Gap). I couldn't figure out if it was a directoral thing or not. I heard that "The Goblet of Fire" is filming now, and it too has a different director. One minor point that bugged me...I know that Richard Harris died sadly, but the actor they casted to replace him as Dumbledore just wasn't the same. He looked identical, but he played the character very differently. I liked the old Dumbledore better. JMO.

Actually, TVFan, that's the exact reason I didn't really want to watch the movie! I'd read the boooks, and I thought that it was a great story, but when it came out on movies....eh. I think it should have waited a while before becoming a movie, maybe ease into the classics section first. Look what it did for Lord of the Rings! (Not thatit's a classic or anything) I just think that with the way Rowling describes everything, there's just no way for a movie to capture it the same way. (But the effort is great!)

TV Fan, Funny, but you said some things that I also commented about to a friend. What was with Hermione and the hip-hugger jeans and the casualwear. I mean, I know their maturing teenagers, but I would have liked to see them in their robes more. I also noticed that a lot of it was done outside, which was very pretty at times, but we really didn't see much of Hogwarts, which is the central point to me given that it's where Harry really found himself. It seemed to lose some of it's charm at times. One other thing is that at no point was I ever on the verge of tears as I was in the first two movies. It wasn't really emotional. One of the best moments of the second movie was near the end when Harry tells Hagrid, "it wouldn't be Hogwarts with out you". On the other hand, we saw a lot of Harry's anger and passion which I think we will see more of in the next movie. But one thing I do disagree about was the new Dumbledore. He looked almost identical and I think he got the character bang-on. The only difference I noticed was that his voice isn't the same which is natural.

Ebron- Very good point about Lord of the Rings. I bet people would have been more forgiving had they waited a while to make the movies. It's funny because the book series isn't even finished, and they already have three movies out! I do enjoy them, but I can understand what you're saying. Krispy - Good point about the emotional reaction to the first two. I didn't even think about it, but you're right. I didn't have any type of emotional reaction to this one either. Funny about Dumbledore because my sister said the same thing as you. She thought he was dead on too. I bet he grows on me in the next one.

They probably starting making the movies so early because there are 7, possibly 7+ books in the series. it will be a while before the series is finished. the lord of the rings was only 3 books, correct? and they've been out there for a while i believe.

Yeah, but you gotta think, the author of LotR had been dead about fifty year, while Rowling is still out there, writing away. Which has nothing against her books, it's just that it's still fresh and foremost in everyone's minds...Not a lot of people seemed to mind that Peter Jackson cut out parts of the movie and added them to the dvd, but there's a bit more criticism (I hat espelling that word) for HP...

I thought this was the best of the 3 movies. Really exciting, especially the Dementors scenes.
I prefered the old Dumbledore - he seemed to have more tenderness, to be more "magic" (I can't really explain it).
what I thought was weird was that everything seemed to take place in the first day of the term at Hogwarts. However, when the movies ends, it's also the end of the term...

Tatiana - I agree about the dementors. That train scene was great! I was really freaked out. I thought that scene was well done.
I know what you mean about a lot happening during the first day. I wonder if the director didn't convey the passing of time well and we thought it was one day, but it was suppose to be several? It confused me a bit.
