Carter's baby is going to die near the end of the season. Apparently, Noah Wyle and his wife went through a couple of miscarriages before they had their baby, and ER is taking this storyline from that.
Seriously, this show should just be renamed "Noah Wyle Home Movies. "

OMG! Ok, even I, who hated the idea of the baby from the beginning, think it's totally a lame idea to kill the baby. WTF? Hasn't he gone through enough. First his brother, then his grandmother, now this. I know they want to find a way to get rid of Kem and the baby, but common! They could just have her go back to the congo. BLAH! BOOOOOOOO TPTB!

I sort of expected tragedy to happen, but killing a baby BEFORE it's even born? this show is reaching new lows to get tears out of its audience.
I just pray GrievingDad Carter won't run back into Abby's arms. Because that would be too much.

yeah, well, I wouldn't mind, I used to be a carby, but I think this show needs to end soon. As much as I love it, it started to REALLY stunk after Anthony Edwards left. {edited word in post}

I'm rewatching Season 2 now and it's, like, wow --- this show used to be GOOD.
Although there are a few of the current castmembers that I enjoy to watch, I think the original ensemble worked much, much better together.
Carter used to be endearing ... now he just annoys me.

Anyone see the premiere? I wasn't all that impressed. None of the storylines seemed to go anywhere and the Sam subplot was pointless in my opinion but the previews for the upcoming weeks look very good. Hope Susan gets back from maternity leave STAT. She needs to inject some much needed life into this veteran show!

This weeks episode was pretty good.
I'm not sure if I like the new surgeon. He seems smart and I see conflicts with the ER staff coming.
I'm just not connecting to the Ray character, played by Shane West. The writers seem to be trying to put him on the front burner but I don't see that working. The character just seems a little flat to me.
It was so funny when Neela was trying to get a job and no one wanted to hire her because she had no retail, food service experience. Wasn't it funny when she was at one nterview and the women asked her, "so you don't have any cash regigester, sales experience, what can you do?" And Neela replied, "Well, I can crack your chest open and restart your heart." The interviewer's expression was priceless.
It was touching when Susan brought her baby to the ER and Carter offered to hold him while Susan went to the bathroom. I felt so sorry for Carter. Very sad.

I really enjoyed last night's episode. I loved seeing Susan and might I add she looks amazing! I love her new hair cut and she seems to have lost weight. I agree that Shane West's character isn't doing anything for me.... but neither was Nila's character and now I love her! About Nila, I think she's my favorite. She's just sooo cute and sweet and I love that they created a friendship with her and Abby.
Anyway, this episode seemed much funnier than past episodes and I think thats good because last season was really sad and depressing. No funniness at all. This season seems to be much lighter and happier. It reminds me of the earlier seasons with Clooney and Edwards when there was laughter.

Sometimes I wonder why I still watch ER, I simply don't care about any of the characters anymore, aside from Neela. Shane West's voice AND character completely annoys me; I used to care for Luka until he hooked up with Sam; and I'm just waiting for Carter to disappear. Not to mention, the storylines are getting more over-the-top, I miss the old days when they didn't have as much shock-value, but were moving just the same.

I agree misguided that I don't have much of a conection to many of the characters on this show anymore but since I work in healthcare, I am still intrigued by it's premise and storylines after all these years, as outlandish as they sometimes are. I'll be watching till the end.

Wow! What an amazing episode. I actually cried! That does not happen often, believe me, and when Elizabeth walked away and said "It's been lovely," the tears just started falling from my eyes. The storyline with the mother was so intense but did anyone else connect it with the episode of CC last season where the mom thought it was the social worker coming to take away her child so she and the child jumped out the window? pretty similar.
Anyway, I'm really gonna miss Elizabeth... I always really liked her.

That episode of CC came to mind for me right away in the first scene when the mother looks out the window.
I will miss Elizabeth also but her reasoning for leaving was warrented. Most of her friends are gone and her daughter should get the chance to know her relatives.
Good episode overall. Glad Neela's heading back to the ER.

"Fly Away" immediately came to my mind as I watched the teaser.
I missed most of this episode to watch Without A Trace --- I know, I'm abandoning the ER ship. But I did catch the Neela @ Jumbo mart moments and thought they were hilarious.

Great episode tonight! First, I have to comment that Abby was so mean to that intern. God, if a guy treated me like that, I'd be begging to go on a date with him. Did you see how concerned he was when he thought she'd been %#$%ed by that needle? She went across the street to get her iced-tea.
Anyway, this episode was great! It reminded me why I love this show so much. Ray is growing on me, I just wish he wasn't so cocky sometimes. He sorta reminds me of Doug Ross, except not as cute, smart, funny... well, you get the idea.
Also, so I guess they want us to think there is some sort of chemistry between Carter and that Psych lady. But to tell you the truth, she doesn't nothing for me. She's rude, arrogant, ugly (IMHO) and doesn't add anything to the show. She's like an Abby wannabe. I hope they realize that just because they want us to like her, doesn't mean we're going to. And why all of a sudden is Carter so interested in her. They only time they really talked was when she called him an ass. Am I wrong, is that usually a turn- off?

For a change, the promos for this show lived up to the actual ep. Ray Liotta was amazing as the man who we atched for his final 40 minutes of life. It was heartwrenching when his son hung up the phone on him saying, "nice knowing you." This ep seemed so real with what Charlie had do go thru during the last minutes of his life. The scenes when he's heading toward heaven, I assume, could have easily been cheesy but were tasteful and poignant. Charlie was banging on the windows of that house for his son but his son couldn't hear them.
Nice performances from Mekhi Phifer and Goran Visnjic in this ep. We saw a side to each that we hadn't before. More compassion from them both to Charlie than I expected. But when th especialists came in from Gastroenterology and Nephrology and they were talking about Charlie like he wasn't even there. Very sad.
I hope ER will continue with eps as good as this one. If it does, this show will move back to my can't miss list of t.v. shows.

Wow, that episode was really depressing. I thought Ray Liotta was amazing and everyone else acted great too, but I just thought it was too sad. Usually, this show is sad, but there are funny moments. This whole thing had nothing but sadness. I felt so depressed after watching that even Will & Grace made me wanna cry. I thought it was brilliant and well written and well acted and everything was really well done, but sometimes it's just too much.

Usually, this show is sad, but there are funny moments. This whole thing had nothing but sadness. Good point CCFan but since I work in healthcare and see a lot of depressing things in real life I'm immune to just how sad and depressing some storylines, such as this one, can be. I can fully see your point though.

This ep was not anywhere good as last weeks. The storylines were just not strong enough for me. And don't even get me started on that Emergency drill test. That was just waste of screen time with a bunch of screaming kids. Carter was the only one I liked in this ep. When he went and picked up the baby near the end, you could tell just how hurt inside he still is. It was quite strange though how that girl did not ever aknowledge that she'd just given birth. I thought she was definately off her rocker. The writers kept building up why she could be acting this way and when the audience finally found out, it was so abrupt and unexplained that I was even more confused than before.
That's the problem with this show. One week they have an amazingly well written and acted episode that the audience builds up their expectations and are more often than not, let down the following week.

I totally agree. One week, it's amazing and the next, it's just ok. I thought this episode was pretty interesting, although I wish we could've seen more Susan and how she's dealing with being Chief of Staff. I thought the drill was stupid but there were some funny moments. I still hate the Psych lady. All her scenes just feel so forced and to me she just feels like a 2nd, not as good Abby.
I'm a little tired of the baby thing and the Kem thing. While I sympathize with Carter and have no idea what it's like to lose a baby, I feel like no one ever really liked the Kem/baby storyline and I wish they would just leave it. I mean, think back to when Weaver lost her baby. They spent like half of one episode on it and that was it. It seems unfair that Carter gets to grieve for so long when others didn't have that right.
I just feel like the priorities of this show are all messed up. When Weave lost her lover, they spent all the time on her son and we never got to see her grieve for the lost of.. Sandy, that was her name right? Kem left a while ago and they still talk about her. He still refers to her as his girlfriend when we all know that it ended the day she went back to africa. Susan came back and we don't get to see how she's handling being Chief of Staff except for these random moments when she yells at people.
Blah! It just pisses me off. They keep on adding all these characters and then we lose sight of the old characters. And I'd also like to add that when Carter and Abby broke up, they like, never really resolved that. They spent like 3 years building up to this relationship that lasted 1 season, and then it's just over. I'd like to see one of them bring it up or something, like at least acknowledge the fact that he asked her to marry him. I'm sorry, I really needed to rant, because it just makes me angry.
