The big soap opera you've all been waiting for is finally here. Because I'm pretty darn busy with three other WiPs (one of which I'm wrapping up fairly soon), the updates won't be that often, and the chapters will be rather short, but it should be a fun read because it's so stupid.
Take this with a large block of salt and enjoy.

The Cold Days of Our Lives - Chapter One
She gently leaned forward and kissed him only to withdraw seconds later, her face beet-red.
“Don’t be embarrassed.” Kite teased, tucking a loose piece of hair behind her ear. “You’re a good kisser.” They were standing in her apartment, surrounded by her cats, all of which kind of creeped Kite out. After all, some of the cats were missing more than an eye or a leg - a few seemed to be infected with some sort of green fungus, and a few others seemed to have had some rather overzealous owners in the past - it looked as though their legs had been hacked off with a butcher knife, and they had resorted to using rolling as their only technique of moving.
So maybe Lilly was taking her role as a Good Samaritan a little too far . . . but she was hot, and she was the only detective he really stomach the thought of sleeping with. He sidestepped a cat rolling past him and kissed her again softly on the cheek.
He watched as she shook her hair out from her ponytail, grinning shyly. “You’re the only man I’ve ever taken my hair down for.” She said, laughing.
Kite kissed her again. “And, uh, you’re the only woman I’ve ever, uh . . . “ He searched frantically for something that would sound deep and make their relationship meaningful, but drew a blank. “You’re the only woman I’ve known who has mutant cats for pets.” He said seductively, hoping his deep, manly voice would mask the stupidity of his statement.
The next day in work they couldn’t help but give each other little winks and nudges. Whenever they were close he would pinch her slightly and she would grin. Finally Nick pried their hands apart and shoved Lilly into an office, watching her as she gazed around in a lovesick stupor.
“OK, Lilly.” He said. “You’ve got to stop this with Kite. It’s not right.”
She looked surprised for a minute. “How - how’d you know?”
Nick sighed and sat down in one of the chairs, leaning back and addressing his coworker straightforwardly. “Lilly - you and Kite have been holding hands all day. You were rubbing noses in the conference. Hell, you’ve been cuddling with him all day.”
Lilly shrugged. “No, we haven’t. You’re making assumptions because we were being pushed close together by other people.”
“Lilly,” Nick began in a patronizing tone, “Kite doesn’t work here.”
She struggled for words, but none came. “Well, uh, he . . . “
Suddenly Nick got up and confronted her, bending down in front of her on one knee. “Lilly,” he said softly, “We can be happy together again. It doesn’t have to be like before. I mean, you put your hair down for me. That has to count for something.”
“You what?” Came a voice from behind Vera, and he turned to see the speaker. It was Kite, looking angry but confused, standing in front of the closed door. “I thought you said - Lilly - “ He abruptly broke off his sentence there, shocked. He had thought she only put her hair down for him. He could feel his ego shrinking before it finally melted into one large, soggy mess of goop.
Nick got up and approached him. “Lilly and I are together now. You leave us alone or I’ll tell everyone how I caught you cheating on your girlfriend with that murder suspect in the interrogation room last year.”
“Yeah?” Kite countered. “Leave us alone or everyone will know how you cheated on Lilly with Stillman.”
“That’s a lie!” Exclaimed Nick, throwing up his fists in an invitation to fight.
Kite stepped forward and threw the first punch . . .
